Lou is the helpful Nextdoor neighbour who the local mums trust enough to collect their children from school. Except one day, she doesn’t. Then the threatening texts starts.
An intriguing thriller, bit light on details but plenty of twists.
This was a good book but the plot is a little well worn now. The book I listened to before this had a very similar story line and I was hoping for something a little more original with this one. Some of the characters actions, of lack of, were questionable. Despite this, it was an enjoyable book and the narrator was good, and it kept me entertained whilst busy doing other things but it's not one I would rush to recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review. Fiona asks her neighbour to pick up her two kids from school like so many times before. However, when she gets home that day she can see that Lou is not home and the house is dark. Where is Lou and more importantly where are the kids. Two other friends of Fiona's have also asked Lou to pick up there kids and they are also growing concerned as to their whereabouts. They call the police and not long after Lou's car is found on the side of the road with all the kids' belongings in the car and....is that blood? What could possibly be going on. As the parents wait to hear the results of the police search, each mom starts to receive a cryptic text message stating what must happen to get answers. I did enjoy this audiobook, it kept me interested and I felt all of the characters were relatable and the outcome was good as well. Enjoy!!!
Wow! What a roller coaster ride this was! An incredibly fast-paced, gripping, and emotionally charged story that had me guessing right up until the twist smacked me in the face! I loved it!
The audiobook is narrated perfectly!
Literally jaw-dropping!
I can’t say enough good about this one! Such a great read - lots of complex characters - with different perspectives.
I seriously opened my mouth in shock with the twists in the end! One of my favorites so far this year!
@jaziblackborow narrates fabulously!
Thank you, @leahmercer, @Bookouture,, Bookouture Audio & @netgalley for my copy! All opinions are my own. Thank you, #Bookouture, for including me on the tour!
An interesting read. I might be dense, but I didn’t see the twist until right before it was revealed. I would be interested in reading more of Leah’s books.
I grabbed this novel on NetGalley having read another of Mercer's books and this one was even better! Early in the book, I predicted what our big plot twist would be, but Mercer's expertise seems to be more in character development and making us think rather than trying to shock us. Regardless, The journey is fast-paced and difficult to walk away from, resulting in me consuming this audiobook in two days. Despite the predictability of the main plot point, minor twists and turns throughout kept things fresh and interesting.
Enjoyable but not 'edge of your seat'. A tale of four women and their inter woven histories. The audio book version was narrated well. Some attempts and twists but nothing particularly surprising. However, I would reccommend as a good easy, beach read.
I was honestly a little bit disappointed in this one. It started off with so much promise, but just fell flat in the middle and end.
The Mother Next Door By: Leah Mercer Narrated by: Jasmine Blackborow was an excellent audiobook and I really enjoyed this. I was gripped from the beginning till the end and ended up listening to this audiobook in one sitting, So glad I a baby blanket to crochet. However, I do advise to have some tissues handy - You may need them.
I highly recommend this book. 5 star read and audiobook. The narrator
Jasmine Blackborow was excellent.
Big Thank you to Leah Mercer, Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for the audio copy.
We all have friends we trust and depend upon - especially as we run around in chaos trying to balance it all: work, home, life, children. So overwhelming.
But what if your friend had a deep secret? Tried to have your life? What if she picked up your kids - and vanished?
Creepy, gripping with suspense. The multiple narrators - fantastic!
Lou picks up the neighborhood kids - but they never make it home. Her van is found on the side of the highway. All their belongings inside - but no kids, no Lou.
Listening to this book makes you realize this happens everyday. The skeletons in our closest will always come out sometime in our lifetime.
Thank you for allowing me to preview this audiobook! It is my first by this author, but it won't be my last! I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Fiona's friend and neighbor, Lou, is supposed to be picking up her children from school and bring them home. As the hours go by she realizes that every mother's worst nightmare is coming true. Lou has disappeared with her kids. Fiona and two childhood friends, Allison and Jasmine, must piece together parts of their past if they want to find their children.. Past and present collide in this gripping thriller. There were twists that I predicted, but there were also twists that I didn't see coming! Fantasic!
Leah Mercer is a new author for me. I enjoyed this audiobook, it's a little predictable but then it takes a twist and you say wow I didn't see that coming. I thought Jasmine Blackborow did an incredible narration of the book. Jasmine really brought out the characters for me. Helping me keep track of who was who. If you like thrillers with twists and turns then this book is for you. Thank you to NetGalley, Boookotoure Audio, and Leah Mercer for letting me listen to “The Mother Next Door” in exchange for an honest review.
Women will tell their girlfriends all sorts of secrets — sometimes before they even know who that friend really is.
Lou is, by all appearances, a great person. She is always willing to lend a hand with the kids, head out for happy hour, or loan you the designer clothes in her closet. But she’s not really who her friends think she is…
…And then one rainy night, she disappears. With their children.
What happens next unravels a decades-old mystery and brings secrets (that people would like to keep buried) to the surface.
Great premise, great character, but lackluster suspense. The characters seemed to be moving around with no sense of urgency or emotion. Still, I enjoyed it.
I overall quite enjoyed this book, but think I would have preferred to have read it rather than listened to the audio. I thought I had it figured out a few times (and I was pretty close to right in the end!) but found the twists to be well done and the book to be well paced!
Lots of twists and surprises in The Mother. Next Door. Just when you think it’s as twisted as possible, there’s another piece of the past revealed. The narration, by Jasmine Blackborow, is well paced and easy to follow.
Thank You to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to enjoy the audiobook version of this this ARC.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
This book was gripping and chilling! I loved all of the different layers each POV brought to the story as it made the story so twisted. All of the mothers in this book were very unlikeable and at times very unreliable narrators. This was a great and exciting read.
Thank you NetGalley and Leah Mercer for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a fun, fast-paced mystery thriller that drops you right into the action from the very beginning. It's told through multiple POV's and the chapters are time-stamped so that you can easily follow the timeline. While the story is predictable, its short and entertaining for what it is. I liked it, but didn't love it.
This was overall a good read. I will say that it was predictable and the twists weren't all that twisty, but I did enjoy it. If you're looking for a break from trying to figure things out - this is an easy cruise.
