This is a thriller I didn't see coming. I had never read a Michele Campbell book before, so didn't know what to expect. The judge is Madison's idol and she is excited to be working with her. After Madison's brother is arrested, events take a turn. This is a thriller you won't want to put down until you have it all figured out.

This is a gripping legal thriller that blends suspense, drama, and moral dilemmas. Madison is an ambitious law student who snags an internship with Judge Kathryn Conroy, but this dream opportunity unravels into a dangerous web of secrets when Madison uncovers dark truths about the judge and her own family's legal entanglements.

Madison is a relatable protagonist facing intense pressures and ethical dilemmas, while Judge Conroy is a complex figure with a façade of stern professionalism hiding dark secrets. The story is well-paced, and its exploration of ethical quandaries adds depth, prompting readers to ponder the grey areas of justice and loyalty. Campbell's background as a former federal prosecutor lends authenticity and realism to the legal setting.

The Intern is a thought-provoking and entertaining read that will appeal to fans of legal dramas and thrillers.

This one was just okay for me. The storyline was intriguing but I did not connect with any of the characters. I found myself skimming the pages a lot. All in all an okay read.

This book was interesting, if a little overly complicated! I didn’t love the story, but did enjoy the multiple perspectives. I found the characters a little inconsistent, and felt story that communication between many of them would have helped

ᴛʜᴇ sᴛᴏʀʏ: Law student Madison Rivera scores a job in a judge's office who she admires, but when her brother goes to jail and accuses the judge of corruption, Madison starts to dig into the cases.

ᴍʏ ᴛᴡᴏ ᴄᴇɴᴛs: I previously read Michele Campbell's The Wife Who Knew Too Much and loved it, so I received this ARC a few years ago and then just let it fall by the wayside when I got overwhelmed with other things.

I love a good political drama and a twisty thriller, so while this wasn't my favorite of her novels, I still found it to be highly enjoyable.

Madison and her mother's relationship was the one thing I really despised. Her mother was horrible and should remember she has two children, not just one. I also found several aspects to be highly dubious, particularly with how Madison and Judge Conroy become entwined. However, suspending a little reality for the story, I really liked the premise and the twists throughout to the end.

𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮:
👩‍⚖️ love a political drama
👩‍⚖️ want a corruption/mafia story
👩‍⚖️ are here for strong female main characters

Harvard law student Madison Rivera lands an internship with Judge Kathryn Conroy. This internship should boost her career once she graduates, but she is hiding a big secret from the judge. Her brother Danny has been arrested on drug charges, and Kathryn is the judge on the case. After accusing Conroy of corruption, Danny goes missing and Madison realizes she's not the only one with secrets.

This was a fun thriller, but nothing that blew me out of the water. This does start off rather slowly, but does eventually become more intense as the story progresses and more things are revealed. I liked it better once we started getting the judge's POV as well. I thought her backstory was intriguing, and I wanted to know more about her. There is definitely more of a focus on her, rather than Madison through out the story. There were quite a few characters who were all connected in some way, which could get a bit confusing trying to keep them all straight, but it wasn't too overwhelming in the end.

I’ve always been a Michele Campbell fan but this one just didn’t scratch that itch that her other books did. I liked the book, it just didn’t do it for me. I would recommend to other readers

have a rather tenous relationship with legal thrillers. While they're usually clever and are a fun departure from the typical "wife is missing and the husband did it" domestic thriller formula, I find that they often get bogged down in the details and hinge on obscure laws that are hard to understand if you don't have a legal background.
While THE INTERN suffers a bit from this, I was pleasantly surprised by this legal thriller! Madison, a Harvard law student, earns the internship of a lifetime working for Judge Kathryn Conroy.
The issue? Her troubled younger brother Danny has been arrested, and Conroy is the judge of the case. When Danny goes missing, Madison is drawn deeper into Conroy's world of corruption and crime in order to bring her brother home.
THE INTERN went in a direction I totally wasn't expecting, but ultimately was not mad about.
From the synopsis, I was convinced that this novel would be more of a family drama, and let me tell y'all: I was VERY happy to be wrong. Instead, Campbell leads us on a cat-and-mouse chase as Madison and Kathryn decide if they can trust each other. There are two large chunks of the novel that dive into Kathryn's past, which ended up being highlights of the book for me. There's a mafia element in here that gave the narrative a unique edge. Very engrossing, but ultimately a little forgettable.

This was so unbelievably hard to get into. I kept picking it up and putting it down. I would have DNFd if it were not for the fact that it was a net galley and my mom said it got better.

Once the focus moved on to the judge, I was hooked. I think the setup of the intern’s brother being in jail made sense. I just didn’t really care about him. I feel like we didn’t get a good sense of him or the family and so it didn’t really matter to me. The judge’s backstory was very compelling and I think they should’ve just let with that. Once we started moving in that direction, I couldn’t put it down.

As a Harvard law student, Madison will do anything to set herself apart from her peers. That’s why she is ecstatic when she secures an internship position at the office of one of her professors and role models, Judge Kathryn Conroy. The only problem is, Kathryn is the judge presiding over her brother, Danny’s, drug case. Danny insists he is innocent, and that Kathryn is corrupt, but Madison doesn’t know who to believe or trust. She suddenly finds herself caught in a web of dangerous secrets. Can she save her brother without putting her future at risk?

The Intern is a heart-pounding legal thriller that draws you in from the first chapter. I was completely sold in the beginning, but things really started to take a turn for me in the second half of the book. For a law student, Madison seemed incredibly naïve about criminal investigations and kept mindlessly putting herself in terrible situations. I also found the last part of the book, especially the ending, to be a little slow, though I did think the rest of the book was well-paced. Overall, this was a solid novel, but it didn’t wow me.

The Intern started off strong for me with the introductions of our main characters.

But slowly lost me with a contrived and messy plot that didn’t have a strong meaning.

Not my favourite thriller, the beginning had me hooked but felt like the plot was all over the place. Still get me reading to find out the ending, but wasn’t my cup of tea

The deeper I got into this book, the harder it was to put it down. I had to know what would happen next! I was on the edge of my seat. Every single chapter turned the story and I was never fully certain who to trust. Each time I thought I had it figured out, something else would get thrown in and change everything. Gripping and easily my favorite book from Michele Campbell to date.

Fast-paced legal thriller.

When Harvard law student, Madson Rivera, lands an internship with Judge Kathryn Conroy, she is over the moon thinking that her future career plans are secured. It's not too long, however, before she realizes that she is in over her head -- caught between her own brother's legal troubles and information that the Judge might be a criminal.

This was entertaining and I enjoyed listening to the audiobook while following along in the e-book. The narrator did a nice job voicing all the characters. Although the plot and outcome were predictable, I was more dismayed by how annoying that whole brother situation was. I thought Madison's mother was beyond annoying with her demands on Madison actually leading to her becoming more embroiled in all the bad stuff. Kathryn's back story and her perspective was far more interesting, and I wish more of the book had been spent on her. The bad guys were stereotypical and some of the details about the conspiracies and prosecutorial conduct, along with the involvement of the FBI, were a little farfetched. And the relationship between Madison and Kathryn sure got real close real fast. Regardless, there was a lot of action and some twists enough to make this hard to put down.

I like legal thrillers but would prefer they be more courtroom drama vs mobster and corruption themes.
