Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher. This book is full of suspense. I love how it was broke up into parts. Keeps you guessing.
Loved this book!!! I'm a huge Michele Campbell fan and I love how the story keeps you guessing until the end. This story was told in 2 POV with a few twists and turns along the way and they got me a few times! Such a great thriller that I did not want to put town!!!
This was a pleasant surprise. If you like legal thrillers, I would definitely check this out. This had more of a cozy feel. I enjoyed the writing style and pacing of the plot. The dialogue felt realistic and the two main characters were complex and fun to get to know. I can picture this as a miniseries on Netflix. If you're an animal lover, there's also a pet cat named Lucy that's a fun addition. The conclusion wrapped up nicely.
Thank you NetGalley, St. Martin's Press and Michele Campbell for an advanced copy of this book.
Interesting concept, but wasn’t super hooked on plot. Slow to start and wasn’t able to really get into it despite many attempts.
Thank you thank you the publishers and netgalley for the arc of The Intern! Our MC, Madison is a student at Harvard Law School and has been offered a dream internship working for Judge Kathryn Conroy. The judge is someone that Madison has admired for awhile. However, Madison's brother is arrested for a crime he is saying he didn't commit and Madison's boss (Judge Conroy) is the one assigned to the case. What a fun legal thriller that is unique and engaging!
Madison Rivera, a Harvard Law student, has landed the internship of a lifetime working for Judge Kathryn Conroy, someone she has looked up to since childhood. But Madison has a secret that could ruin her career: her younger brother has been arrested for a crime he didn’t commit and Judge Conroy is the one presiding over his case.
As Madison starts searching for answers on Danny’s behalf, she is suddenly pulled into Conroy’s seemingly glamorous world and Madison realizes that things aren’t necessarily as they seem. The two women circle each other in a dangerous cat-and-mouse game, leaving more questions than answers.
My thoughts:
This was my first book by Michele Campbell but it won’t be my last. The Intern was a fast-paced legal thriller with twists and turns on every page.
Campbell did a great job writing morally ambiguous characters in both Madison and Judge Conroy and I wasn’t sure whether to root for either one. My opinions about each character were constantly changing, which, in my opinion, is a talent that not many authors have. As the events played out, I really wasn’t able to predict the outcome, which is a big kudos to the author!
The villains in this novel were top notch and wholly unlikable. I enjoyed the dual POV, especially when we got a glimpse into Conroy’s background and childhood, which helped piece the whole thing together. Madison’s perspective was completely relatable and her actions had clear motives, which was a stark contrast to Conroy’s often questionable and unpredictable behavior.
I received this digital ARC courtesy of St. Martin’s Press. My review is honest and voluntary.
This legal thriller kept me on my toes with surprising twists. The plot is well paced and includes compelling character development with insight into their childhood and family dynamics.
One POV belongs to Madison, a law student who achieves her dream of securing an intern spot with a judge she has admired for many years. The second POV belongs to the judge, Kathryn. However, Madison’s brother Danny has been arrested with federal drug charges and her mentor, judge Kathryn is assigned to his case. Madison is determined to prove her brother’s innocence and realizes the judge holds his fate.
I loved this mystery! As someone who reads many thrillers, it was a unique story that I couldn’t put down.
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

“The Intern” by Michelle Campbell is a taut legal thriller, where everything is not what it seems, and everyone is keeping secrets.
Madison is overjoyed when she’s invited to intern with her idol, high profile judge Kathryn Conroy- even though everyone, from the current interns to her ex-boyfriend, has warned her against the judge, cautioning Madison about Judge Conroy’s harsh manner and possibly corrupt ways. But Madison can’t believe that her professor and mentor is the person she’s been warned against, and she won’t let it stop her from taking the internship of her dreams. But before the internship even starts, Madison’s brother is arrested and jailed for drug possession, by Judge Conroy herself. Madison’s brother, Danny, swears he’s innocent and that he was set up, and the Judge played a part in his false conviction. Madison agrees to investigate but more than her law career is at risk when she discovers far more than she expected.
Michele Campbell manages to develop a unique, engaging plot in a genre where this is hard to find. I was eager to get my hands on this one, as Campbell’s previous novels, “She Was the Quiet One” and “It’s Always the Husband” were deliciously suspenseful, and “The Intern” did not disappoint.
The story is narrated both by Kathryn and Madison, each responsible for one entire section of the novel. Madison’s story is told first, but it’s really the nitty gritty details of Kathryn’s life that are truly captivating. Both have secrets and both have something to gain from working together, and working against, each other. Neither Madison nor Kathryn can be trusted, and I was suspicious of both right from the beginning, unsure where the ending would take me. When it finally played out, I was beyond satisfied with the outcome, and although it could’ve taken many paths, Campbell definitely chose the right one.
“The Intern” illustrates the behind-the-scenes drama that takes place between a judge and her clerks and all the vulnerable holes where manipulation and scheming can slip in. Each chapter flows well into the next, with a teasing cliffhanger at the end of each. Campbell brings another intensely suspenseful novel forward, delivering the perfect combination of drama and mystery, which is what readers have come to expect from Campbell’s suspenseful fiction.
Absolutely adored this high-stakes story and the perspective shifting as the narrator changes. This is a nail-biting thriller that will have you guessing the whole time. Wonderfully told! Can't wait for more by this author.
4.5 stars, rounded up.
Michele Campbell does it again. She's definitely an auto-read author for me without a doubt.
This is told through the POVs of Kathy, a prominent judge, and her new intern, Madison. Which I absolutely loved because you get to know both characters so much better. You get to see just how similar and connected they truly are....
If you're looking for a heart-stopping legal thriller you will not be able to put down, this one is for you! I read it in one sitting, I could not stop...and didn't! Add in some family drama and some twists I did not see coming at all and it can't get much better!

Two strong women at odds with each other come together in the legal thriller, The Intern. Author Michele Campbell weaves a story of intrigue and danger that includes corruption, greed, ambition, and family drama.
A prominent judge and her intern have ulterior motives when working together. Madison Rivera admires Kathryn Conroy, a prominent judge, and her law professor. She applies for the judge’s internship to free her brother Danny from jail, as Kathryn is the assigned judge on his case. And Kathryn needs someone to watch her cat so she can get away. But as Madison becomes more involved with Kathyrn, she discovers she is only a pawn in the judge’s mysterious circumstances and shady past. But both women are thrust into a dangerous world beyond their control.
I loved this suspenseful novel told from two points of view, with complicated character backstories, proving nothing is black or white. I want to read more of Michele Campbell’s novels. I thank NetGalley for allowing me to read and review The Intern. #NetGalley #TheIntern #legalthriller
This was a very suspenseful legal thriller that had me captivated. and provided a few surprising twists.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion .
This book was impossible to put down!
You root for Kathy and Madison the whole time.
The ending is so good. I liked that we got both perspectives between Kathy and Madison.
The twists were great too.
Highly recommend!
This is a fast paced read, which I loved. I was instantly hooked by both Kathryn and Madison points if views. It started off strong and I was loving it, however 60% in I felt as though the story became repetitive and began to drag a bit. Overall it was a good read.

Genre: legal thriller
Quick summary: Harvard law student Madison is dealing with her brother's drug arrest when she gets the chance of a lifetime - an internship with judge Kathryn Conroy. Until it turns out the judge has plenty of problems of her own...
I've read a lot of thrillers, but this plot felt unique! I enjoyed getting to know both Madison and Kathryn (as well as all their problems), and Campbell kept up the suspense and drama! I ended up reading this book in less than a day because I had to know how it would all turn out. Plus the Cambridge/Boston setting was a bonus - it took me back to my grad school days. This is a strong 4 star thriller, and it would be a great book to read under a blanket during the fall/winter!
Thank you to St. Martin's Press for providing an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is a good thriller, with sections alternating POVs. There were a few times while reading this that I was creeped out, but also a few times where I could have teared up a bit. I don't usually like mob/mafia stories, but this one drew me in more than some others I've read. Thanks to Netgalley for the digital ARC.
I really enjoyed following Madison and Judge on this journey. The story was interesting enough to keep me reading with just a couple of minor details keeping me from giving it 5 stars. We have all read those authors who makes rush home from work just to finish another chapter. I didn't get that pull from this one. The biggest factor to this was that it was all conveniently resolved in the last ten pages. Still, overall it was very well written and significant enough of a storyline for me to want to finish it.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this e ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Do you love:
- Multiple POV
- Fast Pace

This book is for you!
I loved everything about this book. I opened this book today and read it in one sitting. This is my first book by Michele and this will surely not be my last. So many twists and turns throughout and I enjoy a book that keeps me thinking and wondering — this had that.
We follow MC Madison who gets her dream internship working at a judges office and when we brother seems to be framed on drug charges, we watch her try to figure out who is behind it (the judge seems to possibly be behind it).
All of the characters in this book are so well written and fun to watch grow and interact together in this incredible storyline/plot. Such a fun edge of your seat read! The ending will have your jaw dropped. I never guessed the ending. I absolutely recommend this book.
Thank you so much to St. Martin's Press for the chance to read and review this book prior to release.
As a fan of Michele Campbell's book ITS ALWAYS THE HUSBAND, I jumped on the chance to read this one! I love the cover and the premise promised a fun and exciting thriller.
I was initially hooked by this one and couldn't put it down! I loved Madison and the storyline between her mom and brother. I was totally on board until roughly 80% and then things became a little too convenient for me. The ending was overall okay, but a little too neat and tidy for my personal liking, meaning things came together out of nowhere and it didn't seem natural.
Overall, I definitely think this one is still worth the read!
This will be available for purchase on Oct 3rd!
I’ve enjoyed Campbell’s other books that I’ve read and The Intern started off strong, but unfortunately was a DNF for me. I lost interest once the POV switched to Kathryn and couldn’t stay engaged with the book anymore. I was also expecting it to be more shocking and overall from the 35% that I read, did not find it to be much of a thrilling thriller.
