I loved Michele Campbell's upcoming release The Intern. I have to admit I was initially unsure about it because of the title - it gave me vibes of maybe a popcorn thriller or something- BUT I have read and loved every one of this author's books and this one was no exception. There is definitely a lot going on in this story - the characters are well developed and I loved the way the author went back and forth from Madison's story to Kathryn's story. I found this book to be very intriguing and hard to put down! Its a legal thriller with lots of surprises throughout and I found it hard to decide if Kathryn was trustworthy or not. Madison is a talented Harvard law student who I felt might be a bit naïve but she is really smart and I loved the dynamic between her and Kathryn. I feel like Campbell absolutely nailed the ending for this one! Absolutely loved this book!
Thank you so much for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This heart-throbbing and absolutely unputdownable legal thriller captivates readers with its well-executed character development and perfectly paced plot. It keeps you on your toes with its intriguing mystery, balanced with surprising twists. Once you start reading, you won't want to leave your seat, flipping the pages faster to uncover the challenging cliffhangers the author throws our way. It's an exciting and engaging read that draws you into a character-driven, thought-provoking mystery that you'll want to solve immediately."

Both of the two points of view (POVs) in the story keep your interest alive and intact. One of the POVs belongs to Madison Rivera, a Harvard Law student whose dreams come true when she secures a spot as a summer intern at her favorite judge, Kathryn Conroy's office. However, when she discovers that her brother, Danny, has been arrested on federal drug charges and Kathryn is assigned to his case, Madison realizes that her idol may hold her brother's fate in her hands. She is determined to help her brother and unravel the mystery behind the crime he insists he didn't commit. The pressure on Madison's shoulders escalates as her mother pushes her harder to assist her brother, and Kathryn welcomes her into a dangerous, secret world while Madison hides her involvement with Danny.

Through Kathryn's POV, readers delve into her dark past, the poverty and struggles she faced, and the difficult choices she made to climb the career ladder. Personally, I found her character development and perspective to be particularly compelling.

The revelations in the book are surprising yet believable. There are no senseless or far-fetched explanations, which was a relief. The conclusion is also well-wrapped up, satisfying readers with a well-executed ending.

One aspect of the book that bothered me was the large number of characters and their connections to the main characters, creating a complex web. It was a bit confusing to keep track of which character served what purpose. I found myself going back and forth to piece everything together. However, in the end, the bigger picture perfectly made sense.

As a devoted fan of the author, I never say no to well-written, fast-paced, and exciting crime/legal/political thrillers. This book definitely met my expectations, and I highly recommend it to fellow genre lovers.

Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for providing me with a digital reviewer copy of this book in exchange for my honest thoughts.

Absolutely loved this story of a Harvard law student, Madison, who gets caught up in corrupt activities of a law professor and federal judge she has admired since high school. When the judge invites her to apply for an internship, Madison sees and experiences things that don’t add up. The unexplained firing of the last intern, a controlling case manager working for the judge, and the mysterious murder of the judge’s husband. Despite the red flags, Madison is motivated to stay in the judge’s good graces to learn more about her bother’s legal trouble that he claims was a frame job. Madison creates trouble for herself when she omits information about her brother on the background check for the intern position. When the FBI gets involved, you never know who will flip and who will stay loyal. The suspense keeps the story moving along at a good pace, the characters are well developed, and the ending provides an unexpected surprise while bringing closure to many unanswered questions. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in suspense, strong female characters, and unfortunate family dynamics. This was an honest review of an ARC of #The Intern provided by #St. Martin’s Publishing Group through #NetGalley.

Such a fun legal thriller! Madison is a Harvard Law student and is selected to be Judge Kathryn Conroy's intern. The two share a lot in common, but there's a lot more to their legal relationship than first meets the eye. Both have some baggage to deal with, and this is the story of how their unique situations collide.

I was on the edge of my seat reading this book, and I finished it in record time. The story is well written and compelling. I may have gotten a tad bogged down toward the end of the book, but the writer ends the story with a bang. Loved it!

Highly recommend to those who love fast paced stories with some action and some unlikely friendships!

Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read and review The Intern.

Michele Campbell hits it out of the park again with this amazing thriller.
I have loved every book that she has written but I must admit this has to be my favorite.

The Intern by Michele Campbell was everything I was hoping for.

The author kept an air of tension going through much of the story
She did an excellent job in weaving the mystery here and keeping the story flowing nicely.
The storyline itself swept me straight up and didn't put me down until the last page. A true page turner. It is filled with twists, turns, nail biting suspense, lies, murder, family and drama.
The characters are complex and interesting. And I eager to see how this all unfolded.
Sharp, intelligent and compelling Campbell is a master at creating an suspenseful atmosphere with a well developed story line that kept me going until 2am.

This book was so well written and the storyline was fantastic. I loved how it flipped between perspectives, I want to ask for another book that's entirely about Kathy's story because I felt she was such an interesting character. A good guy and a villain at the same time yet you still wanted to root for her and watch her win.

Madison is a Harvard law student who is hired as an Intern by a Judge and Professor she greatly admires. The same Judge has put her brother in prison. Madison tries to help her brother and keep her internship which requires secrets every place she turns. The ending is brilliant. Read this book. I highly recommend it. Thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.

The Intern is a quick read, full of secrets, that kept me interested and guessing from start to finish!

Madison is an law student who gets to work/intern with her idol Judge. Madison has secrets. The judge has secrets too though. So many secrets.

I had so much fun reading this book. I could not put it down. So many twists and turns and the perfect amount of dialogue. Dialogue can make or break a book for me. Either not enough or too much, but this one was just right!

This is my first from this author but I’m going through her backlog now because dang this was a good one.

This was a quick read, not my favorite from this author, but decent enough. The main characters at times seemed naive and the plot got complicated at times with a lot of characters, most of which were "bad guys" A law student goes to work for a judge she has long admired and gets caught up in danger as the judge's past threatens them both The cat and mouse between them at the beginning was the most interesting part. Can they trust each other or is this a deadly mistake

A law student becomes an intern for a judge she admires. Both have secrets and what is the price of that admiration as the judge turns into someone who has made a lot of unethical choices and is trapped in her own way. Think my students will enjoy this one

I just finished reading "The Intern" by Michele Campbell. Thanks to St. Martin's Press and Net Gally for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest rview.
This story follows the relationship between an intern (Madison) who is a law student, with one of her professors, Judge Kathryn Conroy. There is an immediate mystery presented involving Madison's brother who was sent to jail for drug trafficking at the hands of the Judge who is Madison's boss. Madison's brother claims innocence and Madison wants to believe him but her respect for the Judge makes it hard. When it seems as though the Judge may be compromised, Madison takes an intern position in her chamber, so that she can get to the bottom of the mystery and help her brother.
Through a series of flashback chapters, we learn about Kathryn's backstory, surviving poverty and abuse, to become a Judge and the difficult decisions that came along the way. We also learn that she lost the love of her life in a horrible murder that is still unresolved.
The story unfolds at a quick pace and there are continuous revelations about the Judge and Madison, which make it hard to put the book down. In the end, all questions are answered and there is a satisfyng resolution to the stories of both the main characters.
What I liked about this story was that there were many steps to the revelation of the truth behind the Judge, and they were revealed at a a quick and steady pace. Never was there a lull in the story or did the book go down an unecessary path.
What I didn;t like or found difficule, was that at times, it was hard to keep track of which minor character was doing what. There were ALOT of characters in this book, but they all served an important purpose, becuase the backstory of the Judge was very important to the book.
I liked this book. I really hope that this is not the way the justice system works. But I am happy with the resolution of the story. When I finished reading this book I was very satisfied with the ending.
Happy Reading.

WOW! What a wild ride! Michele Campbell once again shows why she is a master at well drawn, thought-out characters. In THE INTERN we meet Harvard Law student Madison Rivera who is asked by her favorite professor, Federal Judge Kathryn Conroy to intern in her office for the summer, bypassing the normal application processes. Of course she jumps at the chance. But then, she has just learned that her younger brother Danny has been arrested on federal drug charges and Judge Conroy is assigned to his case. While Madison’s mother begs her to get close to the judge in an effort to help him, Madison initially leads the judge to believe she is an only child. When the judge invites Madison into her world, finals threaten and her mother continues to pressure her to help her brother, Madison seems to be getting squeezed from all sides.
But is the the judge magnanimous or a wolf in sheep’s clothing? As we learn the judges’s backstory, there is little doubt. So what will each of the women do when faced with impossible choices? And what an ending!
This was a great story but I REALLY had quite a bit of trouble trying to keep all of the people straight; who was friend and who was foe, good cop/bad cop etc. It really seemed to distract from the story for me as I was trying to piece together who went with which character. In my case, I eventually ended up having to get a dance card and write it all down. More work than I want to do when trying to escape work as it is. But that might just be me.
