A very intriguing story of law student Madison who lands an internship with Federal Judge Kathryn Conroy. Conroy is going to decide on Madison's innocent brother Danny's fate as a drug dealer. Not disclosing this relationship is a struggle for Madison's conscience vs Danny's fate.

Kathryn Convoy has her own secrets and being blackmailed by family connections to decide on cases makes her relationship to Madison very complicated and dangerous for them both. Kathryn grew up unaware of her mother's connections to gangsters. Between these two women they try to smart the gangsters in Kathryn's life.

Fast paced with characters you can get emotionally involved with.

Definitely an author I will continue to follow.

The Intern is a well-written crime thriller in the vein of The Firm by John Grisham.

Madison is a first year law student when she lands the internship of her dreams and her brother is framed for narcotics crimes. Is the Judge she works for and idolizes a corrupt member of the mob who framed her brother?

Our narrators are Madison and the Judge. We get "real time" updates along with flashback sequences to see the path that lead both these ladies to where they are currently in their lives. We get class prejudice, illicit affairs, corruption, and other sordid happenings as secrets are revealed.

With the FBI, the Attorney General, and the mob breathing down her neck and threatening her and her family, can Madison formulate a plan to save them all? Of course she does (we all knew that) but the roller coaster ride to the finale is wonderful and tense.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

●Thoughts ●
This book started off really strong with a story that hooks you in and then right when it hits the 50% ish mark, the story feels very slow. At first, I was hooked and the book was such a fast paced read but then it did a 180 degrees and it slowed down... The aspect of Kathryn's secret and Madison becoming her intern was making me become a detective and then once we know her secret, the story does a mood swing. It interests me and it makes me confused at the same time. The POV change was kind of hard to follow in this book and when Madison's mom changes from mom to her actual name, I was like wait huh??? The plot does get a bit repetitive and I do wish I enjoyed it more 😭😭😭.

Madison, a Harvard Law student. Judge Conroy, a prestigious and well known Judge. Two women with troubled pasts, deep secrets and a drive to protect those they love.

When Madison lands an internship with Judge Conroy, what seems like a life changing opportunity becomes a life altering thrill ride. Both women carry secrets that can make or break them, and one wrong move can completely shatter all they’ve worked for. What is the price of silence, or the price of honesty when faced with corruption, success, coercion, violence and those we love.

This book was a quick, palatable read that I finished in a few hours. The plot was initially a bit tough to keep track of, as you were introduced to many characters very quickly, and thrown right into the action. However, while it was sometimes a challenge to keep everything straight, it felt frantic and gave an air of impending doom, just like the story was meant to be.

This was well written and well thought out, and I enjoyed how the entire thing felt like life or death. The ending was a bit implausible, but then again, Madison and Judge Conroy’s whole experience was exactly that too.

What a great twisty thriller where no one is who they seem. Young law student Madison gets the opportunity of her dreams working with her idol Judge Katheryn Conroy. But Madison has a secret. Her brother has recently been arrested and sentenced by Judge Conroy. Deciding not to mention it doesn’t seem like a big deal until Danny disappears in the prison system, She decides to come clean with the Judge and try to find him. But is the judge a friend or an enemy. Madison then becomes part of a conspiracy that can destroy not only her law career but her life. I loved this book

In the Intern, Madison is a college student working her way through law school, and struggling to balance the necessities of her studies with her family's needs. Madison's brother is arrested, and her mother thinks that Madison has the connections to "fix" the situation that he has found himself in due to her knowledge of the law. However, Madison is trying to prepare for finals, and recently started an internship for a judge and doesn't want to rock the boat.

However, concerning events begin occurring while Madison is working at the internship, and things aren't quite adding up. Could the judge that Madison is interning for possibly be mixed up in some shady deals? Is there a connection between the judge's potential shady dealings and the fact that the judge was also the judge for Madison's brother's case? Madison finds herself sneaking deeper and deeper into the underpinnings of the judge's life to try to get to the bottom of the situation, for both herself as well as her brother. What she discovers may

The Intern was an interesting story and an enjoyable read. The sentence structure and writing style mirror the age and personality of the narrator, and it’s impressive how Michelle has altered her writing style to mimic the voice of her main character. I felt the voice was a bit young for me to connect completely with the character; however, I still enjoyed the storyline and the book overall.

Madison has landed the internship of her dreams, but quickly discovers there is more to this job than she could ever imagine. Told in the POV of Madison and her mentor, Judge Kathryn Conroy, this novel kept me guessing with every turn of the page. I didn’t know who to trust until the very last page. I had trouble with the first part of the book but it quickly changed pace with the second POV. Thanks to NetGalley for this digital copy for my honest review.

I enjoyed this book from start to finish. Harvard Law, the courtroom, ties to the mob, this story had it all! It was told from duel viewpoints which added a lot of suspense and mystery as to what was really going on. The twists and turns were fantastic and the complexity of the characters held my attention the whole way through. Thanks to St. Martins Press and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review.

Really good book! Not sure what I was expecting, but not what I got. The book is about a federal judge and “family” whether they are blood relatives or just close friends or members of the mob in Boston. People she cares about are murdered and her life is in danger. Does she flip on her “family” by cooperating with the authorities or does she do something else? Read the book and find out.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was one wild, twisty ride and I loved every minute of it! Told through dual POV, The Intern is an exploration of the dark, corrupt side of the law. It's also a unique exploration of family, circumstance, and the lengths we'll go for those we love. Maddie and Kathy are both vivid, determined characters who jump off the page. I rooted for them equally - two women bound together by circumstances outside their control. This book kept me on the edge of my seat, shaking with suspense right to the very end. The Intern is my first book by Michele Campbell, but it certainly will not be my last!

I’m going to start off by saying there was a lot going on in the book which could be very intentional.

It’s about a woman named Madison who finds herself in an internship under Judge Kathryn Conrot who is a prestigious professor at Harvard law. Both women have secrets and it’s not till Madison’s brother goes missing that things start leaking out.

Clever premise, love multiple POVs, fast paced but it just felt long. Maybe it was me and coming off a book hangover but I just felt like it needed some editing.

Entertaining but not my favourite

A lot goes on in this book. A good number of secrets.

The writing style is impeccable. It made it so easy to read. And I felt myself having a hard time putting it down.

Not to mention that I constantly questioned myself over who could it couldn’t be trusted until the very end.

So well done! I look forward to lore from Campbell.

Madison is a full time law student at Harvard. Kathryn is a Federal Judge and teaches one class at Harvard. She has also invited Madison to apply for her open internship. The only thing really hindering Madison is that her younger brother has followed his Lawyer’s advice and pled guilty to holding drugs and faces ten years imprisonment. Madison decides not to tell the Judge about her brother and gets the internship. The story is told in both women’s words and will keep readers guessing throughout. Thanks to Net Galley and St. Martin’s Press for an ARC for an honest review.

This was okay. It wasn’t my favorite from Michele Campbell. It didn’t seem up to her usual standards. Some of it felt a little far fetched and unrealistic, and the writing didn’t suck me in. I will continue to read everything from the author, though, believe that.

After a slow start, The Intern by Michele Campbell took off and never looked back! The suspense was incredible and I found that I couldn't put this down as Madison Rivera, a Harvard law student tried to save her brother and her self, but also protect the federal judge she was working for. An excellent novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

This was not my favorite book by Campbell. I couldn't connect with any of the characters, really didn't care what happened to any of them. The story was convoluted and confusing and just did not make sense...Aside from the very ending, and only because I'm an animal lover, this book was just a chore.

4/5

Thank you St. Martin's Press for the gifted copy!

Harvard law student Madison Rivera has admired Judge Kathryn Conroy for as long as she can remember. When Madison lands her dream internship in the judge's chambers, she couldn't be more excited. However, when Madison's brother, Danny, is framed on drug charges and the judge is somehow connected, Madison suddenly feels like there's more at stake than her law career. With Danny missing and the judge no where to be seen, Madison must uncover the secretes in Kathryn's past, as well as how they line up with Madison's hopes for the future!

This was a pleasant surprise. I haven't heard a lot about this book yet (it's not out until October!) so I wasn't really sure what to expect. Both Madison and Kathryn were complex characters and fun to get to know. This was a fast-paced legal thriller with plenty of drama and deep-dark secrets. I enjoyed the writing style and pacing of the plot. Overall, this was a pretty solid thriller but likely nothing that I'll remember in too much detail.

Madison Rivera is a Harvard Law Student. She idolizes Judge Kathryn Conway and has since the Judge spoke at her school years ago. She now has a chance to work for the judge as an intern, but her brother has been sentenced to prison for drugs by the same judge. He tells her the judge is "dirty" and he was railroaded. Can she help find the truth without ruining her career? Beware, things are not always as they appear ... or are they? I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
