The Intern is a fast-paced thriller, filled with action and twists and turns. Madison is a promising young Harvard law student who lands a dream internship with a judge she has looked up to for years. However, the dream soon turns into a nightmare.
Michele Campbell is one of my favorite authors and I am always excited to read anything she comes out with. This book did not disappoint!
Thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing me with an advance copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
The first book of Ms. Campbell’s I’ve read and I’m in love with her plot twists and her character development. It was nice to see bad guys become good guys and for compromised individuals to actually get the life they deserved. I plan on reading more by this author!!
Michele Campbell's newest novel, The Intern, is a fast-paced read that combines the best of legal thriller and mob/crime fiction. Its twists, turns and red herrings kept me invested in the story and turning the pages until the very end. Highly recommend.

Review of Uncorrected Digital Galley
When Judge Kathryn Conroy offers Madison Rivera an internship in her office, the Harvard law student is beyond thrilled. Conroy is the judge who earned her admiration when Madison was in high school and heard her speak at career day. But Conroy is the presiding judge for a drug case involving Madison’s brother, Danny.
After accusing the judge of corruption, Danny goes missing. Madison searches for answers, determined to help her brother. But it is not clear if Kathryn Conroy is a victim, a criminal, or Madison’s trusted mentor and both women hold secrets.
Can Madison trust anyone? And what is the truth in Danny’s case?
=========
Told from dual viewpoints both in the past and in the present, this tension-filled tale holds many secrets. Some belong to Madison, others to Kathryn, but readers will find themselves wondering who deserves their trust. The unfolding narrative addresses issues involving family, friendship, justice, ethical behavior, and trust.
Multi-faceted characters are believable, although some of their decisions seem rather imprudent and poorly thought out. However, the revealing of each backstory helps readers understand each character and the choices they’ve made. Readers are sure to sympathy builds for each of the women as the story evolves.
The suspense builds as the intriguing plot twists and turns, keeping readers on the edge of their seats. Unpredictable and compelling, readers are kept guessing as the story races to its satisfying denouement.
Highly recommended.

Another great thriller from Michele Campbell! Madison is a Harvard law student, who gets accepted to an internship with a judge she greatly admires. But Madison has a secret that could cause her to lose everything she worked and dreamed of. She soon learns that she’s not the only one keeping secrets and that she is in danger. I loved this book and could not put it down. Thanks to Netgalley for this arc.
Wow wow and wow! I absolutely loved this book! I could not put it down, brought my kindle with me everywhere to finish it!
Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Madison finds herself in a sticky situation when she accepts an internship for a judge she admires at the same time that the judge is about to handle her brother’s case. She misses opportunities to tell the judge about the conflict and then things get very strange when she stays at the judge’s house to cat sit and a strange man is beating on the door looking for the judge.
3.5 stars.
I like this author but this wasn’t my favorite of her books. It took me a while to get through and I was’t eagerly awaiting the next time I could pick it up. The story starts from Madison’s perspective and after several chapters, switches to the judge then back to Madison’s and back to the judge. I liked the judge’s story more and didn’t find Madison’s to be all that interesting. I think this author’s other books were so good I was expecting a bit more but I still look forward to her next book.
Madison Rivera is a Harvard law student who feels like she has won the lottery when she is chosen to be an intern for the beautiful and prestigious Judge Kathryn Conroy. Madison has followed the judge’s career and is a huge fan but now she realizes there is a conflict of interest. Madison’s brother has been arrested on a drug charge and Judge Conroy is on the case. Madison soon finds out that she is not the only one with secrets as she begins her internship. There is definitely more to Kathryn’s story and Madison finds herself mixed up in the judge’s dangerous world. As secrets begin to surface, will the two become enemies or partners in a race against time. This was a fast paced read with many twists and a satisfying ending!
The Intern is a fast-paced thriller that delves into the lives of Madison, a Harvard law student and intern, and her professor and mentor, Judge Kathryn Conroy.
There are many twists and turns. I didn't know what to believe and who was being honest. It kept me guessing until the end.....a sign of a good book. Michele Campbell is a great author and The Intern did not disappoint.
Thank you St. Martin's Press and Net Galley for an ARC of this book. This is my honest review.
I like the switch of the main focus from the young attorney interning with the well known judge to the emphasis on the judge herself, and her secret background and life.
That the two women begin to help each other out in tight situations involving family and safety is a key point of the novel which I found unusual. This is a suspenseful novel, enjoyable and entertaining.
Heart Pounding from the first page to the last. This was a page turner. To see how far the mafia infiltrates the police and justice system, the people affected and the threats...the judge and intern made this a fabulous story.
Pretty good, I enjoyed the ride a lot. The writing was engaging and the plot was actually pretty fascinating. I'll look out for more from this author.
I loved this one. Michelle Campbell’s books are usually very good. This one didn’t disappoint. Madison, a student at Harvard, adores one of her professors. That professor is Judge Kathryn Conroy. It’s no wonder that Madison worships her. They have similar upbringings and Madison longs to be a lawyer and strong, independent woman too. So, when the judge asks Madison to apply as an assistant in her office, Madison is thrilled. Little does she know that she is about to become involved in a series of unfortunate events.
This was a really good book with oh-so-many twists! I’m generally not much for procedurals or law/police intrigue, but this was surprisingly different! I liked the characters and their development. Madison should have annoyed me with her naïveté, but her love for her family and dedication to them changed my mind. Kathy was cool and I understand why she ended up how she did.
Disclaimer: I received a gifted copy of this book from netgalley, and in exchange I am leaving an honest review.
Y'all when I say this book had me up until 2am on Monday night, Im not exaggerating. Went from 20% to 68% super quickly and the only reason I stopped reading was because I was falling asleep. This book pulls no punches.
Discusses the corruption both in police and in the government. Establishes multiple plot points and connects them with ease. It hooked me by 20%.
I think I'm Lowkey obsessed with crime novels at this point. I read 25% on my lunch break. This is my first novel by Michele but I will be reading more.
Thank you to netgalley and Michele Campbell for the opportunity to read this book
I've enjoyed Michele Campbell's previous books, so I was so excited to read her new one early! The Intern was a fast paced, unpredictable story that I read in a day because I couldn't put it down! I loved the different points of view throughout the story, though I definitely enjoyed Kathryn's sections a lot more than Madison's (though they both made a lot of terrible decisions). There was a little too much going on here, with the whole mob (?) tie-in, and some of the dialogue was a bit stilted, but I still sped through it. I really liked that the author kept me guessing on who to trust until the very end of the book. I saw some of the minor twists coming, but a couple definitely took me by surprise! Overall, I would recommend and can't wait to read whatever the author comes out with next. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!
I appreciate this opportunity to read Michele Campbell’s new book & extend gratitude to the publishers. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed and did not enjoy this story. I tried to push on in hopes it would get better, so I continued reading. However, I found the book so disinteresting with bland characters that I didn’t finish it. The plot showed promise, but lacked engagement from readers. Not one I would recommend although I do appreciate the opportunity to read it. Thank you.
The Intern - Michelle Campbell
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this captivating eARC.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I have read many psychological thrillers and/or mystery novels lately that have a decent plot, but the characters are not thoroughly developed, which prevents you from caring what happens to those characters.
I am happy to say that is not the case with Ms. Campbell's new offering.
True to form, this author succeeds in delivering a heart-stopper of an exciting crime thriller in The Intern, as a young law student's admiration for a judge makes her vulnerable to exploitation. However, even this exploitation isn't quite what it seems, as the judge is merely protecting her threatened family members 😲.
This awesome story which draws you into the characters lives' and reveals the lie inherent in portrayals of people as wholly good or wholly bad - such people only exist in fantasy, despite what so many of us were raised to believe...
An equally excellent storyline, I went online to purchase two other books by this author immediately after I finished this one.
Until next time...
I thought this was going to be a very predictable storyline, then I got the part 2 and some forth and it really picked up. I enjoyed this book, and would recommend this one and her past two. Thanks for a copy in exchange for an honest review
Michelle Campbell has written an extraordinary explosive book with The Intern.
It captivated me and I had to hold on for this extraordinary novel of twisted bad guys; grooming the good guys and women into informants by any means necessary.
With an ending so satisfying, it felt like a long held breath released.
