This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately it is part of a series so I missed their last case, which apparently was huge, and background on the two main characters. With that being said I don’t think it took too much away from this book. Yes I wondered what happen in their last case when they said something about it but no biggie.

I liked the suspense of the whole story and wondering where it was going. There are multiple things that intertwined to make it even more interesting and real life. You can feel the sadness from Jax.

Full of suspense and heart thumping, gut wrenching, tidal waves of emotion. This book keeps the reader guessing and turning pages to find out not only the whodunnit of it all but who might be next. Tragedy and human relationships of the deepest sort made this an excellent read! The author knows the parts of us that make us all keep going even in the toughest of times.

Sheriff Jax Turner and his ex-wife, FBI agent Abby are trying to move on with their lives after death and divorce.
But two missing people and two feet washed up within weeks of each other means that they start working with each other again. Jax and Abby work against the clock to find out what’s going on - made worse when accidents to family, friends and colleagues start to occur.
An easy read, with the culprit being fairly easy to work out.

This second book in the Misty Tides Mystery series is a little dark, a little twisty, and a lot mysterious. Set in a small town on the Oregon coast, the ocean and the forests add atmosphere and confusion to the mystery and play their own role by choosing when to hide or reveal their secrets.

The main character is Jax Turner, Sheriff of Misty Tides. His ex-wife, Abby, an FBI agent, also lives and works in the area. Their five-year-old daughter died of leukemia several years ago, and it devastated both of them and caused their marriage to end. He wants to get back together, she is not sure. A good amount of the book is presented from Abby’s point of view.

The book starts with a missing man who is a former top-tier surfer, a gifted surfboard creator and designer, and owner of the local surf shop. The investigation begins to follow its dangerous, meandering, and sometimes misleading path. Jax and his small team and Abby and her FBI partner are faced with additional crimes and confusing clues. Jax’s new hire(s), a female deputy and her search and rescue dog, are a great addition to the cast of characters.

Most of the violence is described after the fact and it is frightful but not overly gory. A couple of characters have children who have died of leukemia or are currently being treated for it. One character struggles to handle a parent’s early onset Alzheimer’s.

This is a compelling mystery that kept my attention throughout. I plan to read the first book in this series, and I look forward to future Misty Tides Mystery releases. ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2, available on October 24, 2023.

My thanks to the author, Mary Keliikoa, to the publisher, Level Best Books, and to NetGalley for providing me a copy of this book.

Jax Turner is called out to a missing person case. What he finds is a body. Not only that, but his case has the tie-ins with his former mother-in-law who is suffering from dementia. She escaped the care home she was in and went wandering around and found someone's foot still in the shoe. This of course has his ex-wife Abby, a FBI agent, involved in his case, and who he is still deeply in love with. But that isn't all, he has to fight with a city official when his son becomes involved in the case. But the biggest surprise is -----I'm not telling. So glad to see another installment of this series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

This is the second book in this series, and I have been anxiously waiting for it to be published. I was glad to find it on NetGalley. This is a police procedural novel. The main character, Sheriff Jax, is a suffering soul who is very likable. He has a crew of reserve policemen who help him solve the mysteries. He is divorced, due to their child dying of leukemia, but he still loves his ex-wife. She is an FBI agent who is frequently involved in the same cases. This book is about feet, different men, that wash up 0n the shore. Are these two cases related? One of them is a surfboard builder whose blueprints are highly desirable. There is also the nurse who helped take care of Jax’s child. She has moved into the area and has a crush on Jax. She also keeps appearing in places she shouldn’t. What evolves is a well developed story where you feel the sympathies of the characters involved. I’m guessing there will be more adventures with Jax in the future!

It was a no-brainer for me to pick up Deadly Tides after loving the first book of the Misty Pines Series. Sheriff Jax Turner and Abby are back, and boy, what a thrilling ride it was! Mary Kelikoa is a talented writer who shines with the level of detail presented in both the cases of Jax and Abby and creates realistic character development. It was heartwarming to read about Jax's and Abby's journeys at what seemed to be parallel lines but slowly came together as they navigated multiple personal and professional situations. The real MVPs in terms of supporting characters are Trudy and Koa! The book's pacing is well done, with pertinent details that compelled me to turn the pages. Did I know the murderer halfway through the book? Sure. But the author's execution, coupled with a few twists and turns, was something I couldn't predict! I can't wait for the next book and will keep an eye out for the author's work. This book will appeal to fans of police procedural, suspense, thriller and small-town secrets.

Thank you, NetGalley & Level Best Books, Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), Members' Titles for giving me an ARC. This honest review is left voluntarily.

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of Deadly Tides by Mary Keliikoa, published by Level Best Books
I really enjoyed this novel. Apparently second book in a series but can be read as a stand alone. First nibel I've read from this author, but not the last. Written from two characters points of view. Jax and Abby are separated after the death of their five year old daughter, she passed away from cancer. However their jobs have got them working together on a case, will they be able to get back together? It seems that residents of a small town are missing and severed feet are turning up, but who do they belong to?
The characters were well introduced and described, and likeable, easy to keep track of who is who and their relationships. A great novel to read, and didn't want to put it down until the end. Can't wait for Mary Keliikoa's next novel

Thank you to Netgalley and publishers for this ARC in exchange for my honest review and opinions.

This is the second installment of the Misty Pines series. Jax and Abby are back in their small coastal town, fighting crime. After the last case, Jax is questioning his gut and whether he knows he can truly trust his instincts and his deputies. We have a fun new addition to the team- Rachel and Koa- I'm looking forward to seeing their characters grow in the next book.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. The plot kept you interested and the pace was nicely done. I could have done without the additional love interest to Abby, but it wasn't that big of an issue and get that it added to her and Jax's issues.

*SPOILER*
I kept jumping between two suspects and overall did get the right one. As a nurse it is shocking to know that someone in that profession could murder multiple people and not raise any suspicion to those around her. Her character was bold and ballsy. I'm just really thankful she didn't end up being an Angel of Death of top of her murders.

I hope to see Jax and Abby continue to progress. And look forward to seeing Rachel and Koa develop more in the next book.

A murder mystery set in the small town of Misty Pines. Jax, the local police officer, and his ex-wife Abby, an FBI officer split up after the death of their young daughter. They still have feelings for each other, but are struggling with grief.
They are each involved in separate cases involving missing persons, and feet washed up on shore. The cases start to overlap, and many of the locals are involved with the deceased, and each other, making lots of suspects, and twists, and an exciting ending when the culprit was revealed.
Recommended.

This police thriller keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole way through and will have you questioning everything you know about grief management.

Sheriff Jax Turner is a well-respected cop in Misty Point, Oregon. He's returning from a traumatic case (Misty Pines Mystery #1) and is still dealing with his divorce from Abby, who is an FBI agent, and the death of their 5-year-old daughter.

Jax and Abby's lives will be thrown back together when a surf legend in the town of Misty Pines goes missing, and only his foot is found. They go through many leads: a former surfing competitor turned surfboard business owner, an employee that wanted to make more money, and a scared-straight program for troubled youth - all have motives, and keep adding mud to the already muddy waters.

What I enjoyed about this novel was that you (at least I didn't) see who the killer was and what their motives were. It was heavily implied, but I kept doubting it due to their relationship with everybody. I also enjoyed that the chapters were written in a dual-point-of-view style, which not might be for everyone, but it worked for this story.

I also enjoyed that the story didn't end with Jax and Abby getting back together, to me that was satisfying. Their grief was so impenetrable that they still needed time away in order to, maybe, get back together.

What I didn't like about the novel was that it was very description heavy. I would get bored reading it and would skip a few pages and didn't feel like I was missing much in those few pages.

For not one who reads police thrillers or mysteries, I did really enjoy this novel and I think it is a good stepping stone for getting into police-themed stories.

Thank you for allowing me read and review this ARC! This was a fast paced mystery thriller with many twists and turns. I was able to finish it in one day. I enjoyed the dynamic of the Sheriff and his ex-wife FBI agent, and I could feel the grief they were still working through. There were multiple suspects that kept me on my toes as I was trying to figure out which one actually did it. Although I guessed it correctly, the final twist made me question my choice. Solid 4 out 5 stars.

A sheriff and his FBI agent ex-wife find themselves working together to solve a string of mysterious disappearances and possible murders in "Deadly Ties." This book was a quick read and while predictable, was entertaining. I would read this series the same way I devoured "The Babysitters' Club" when I was a kid. Fun, easy, and semipredictable makes for a great vacation read.

I do like a good police mystery, especially when they involve a small American town, the sea and some woodlands. And this book has all three, so it was like hitting the book lottery.

While doing a welfare check, the cops in the small seaside town, realise their surf shop owner is missing, and that he was in the process of getting a lot of money for his board designs. At the same time, legs are turning up on the beach, without the rest of the bodies attached. And it only gets stranger from there.

While I really enjoyed most of the characters you come across, one f the two main ones did seem to fall a little flat to me. Which was distracting, but it doesn't disappoint the whole story (though guessing the perps early on did.)

Love this so much more than the first book. It was a fast read with an interesting plot. I was on the edge of my seat trying to guess every step.

This is the second book in the Misty Pines series, I like the multiple levels to this small town mystery, were you get to also learn about Jax, the main investigators, life and the struggles he's going through and also about his es-wife Abby and how they are recovering from their child's death. Also the main plot, the mystery, is very fast paced and has lots of twists and turns. Overall I felt this was very engaging and found it to be quite a fun easy read.

In the second book in the Misty Pines series, Jax and his ex-wife catch intersecting cases. After falling into a depression after the death of their daughter, Jax has re-gained his focus on his sheriff job and must track down a missing surfboard designer, On top of it all, he's trying to reconnect with his ex-wife who is contending with her mother's increasing dementia as well as trying to rebuild her own credibility in the FBI.

A promising series, you could read this as a stand-alone, but you'll appreciate it more if you start with book 1.

I was so excited to see Deadly Tides on NetGalley. I read the first in the series on NetGalley as well and was immediately captivated by Jax and his team. This has become a must read series for me.

Mary Keliikoa writes complex characters that you can’t help but root for. The plot is extremely level, the pacing is steady throughout, it’s not full of wild twists and turns but it holds your attention and keeps the story going. This one had me guessing until the very end!
