It’s so good to have this series back! I love Cooper and her friends from Bible Study and enjoy the short sections of scripture; the religion aspect is an important part in how they all came to be together and the lessons from the Bible are tied in nicely without being preachy. The mystery was well plotted and, though I figured out who did it early on (I seem to be getting better at this!), it did not take away from my enjoyment of the story. The real bonus of this series is the relationships between the characters and the way they support each other. I am so excited for the direction that Cooper’s life is taking and can’t wait to see how this changes things.
This was such a delightful Christian based cozy mystery. I loved getting to know the Bible study crew and the different personalities that they have. I recently learned that this is a book in a series, however it certainly reads as a stand alone. I will now be checking out more of the series. Not only did I enjoy the characters I was intrigued by the plot and it kept me guessing. Highly recommend this one.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced readers copy for my honest review.
It’s a happy day when we can meet up again with the Hope Street Church Bible Study group! Authors Tina Radcliffe and Ellery Adams team up again for book 7 in this wonderful series.
The local community theater is staging It’s a Wonderful Life, and Bible Study member Trish Tyler is in the thick of it. She’s also recruited everyone in the group to participate in some way, including our favorite copier-repairwoman, Cooper Lee.
A famous Broadway director and his team are on board, too. The usual theater drama occurs (pun intended), but when the assistant director turns up dead, Cooper and the gang find themselves on the case, whether Detective Olson wants them to be or not.
I so love how the different strengths of each Bible Study group member are shown, and how faith is intertwined in the story. I read this book lickety-split, and you will, too!
Plus, those familiar with previous books will remember Cooper’s mom, Maggie Lee, is the woman behind the delicious Magnolia’s Marvels. You’ll find some of her amazing recipes in this book, too!
I was given a complimentary copy of this book, but my opinion is entirely my own.
A Christian Cozy mystery that is worth the time to get immersed in. I'll be the first to admit that I am not a deeply religious person and typically find that religious based books or series are not my cup of tea. However, this series is really well done and wraps scripture in without coming across as judgmental or preachy. The religion solidifies the group of friends and connects them in a way that makes their need to find the truth and get justice more believable. Ellery Adams happens to be a favorite author of mine so this series became another for me to devour and enjoy. The author writes believable characters, strong plots and fun twists while in this case wrapping it around the bible studies of the bible group that are the main characters. This is a Christian series that is done well and should allow most readers to enjoy whether religion is their cup of tea or not!
Welcome back to the Hope Street Church Mystery series! If you're new to the series, this is book 7 and a great jumping in spot.
Really enjoyed this cozy mystery. Even though this is book 7 in a series and I haven’t read any previous, I soon grew to love the characters and can’t wait to go back to the beginning.
I love a cozy mystery and adding in faith made it just perfect, I really appreciated that the characters were actioning what they were learning in the Bible studies throughout the story, I loved the relationships between the members of the Bible study, and the variety of characters.
Cozy mystery wise I like how we went on the journey to discovering the killer along with the characters, it wasn’t obvious from the beginning. There was lots of yummy food talk, and some recipes at the back of the book. Definitely recommend.
Thank you to the publisher, author and NetGalley UK for a free ebook in exchange for an honest review.
I love this series, and this book is an excellent addition. I love how Cooper's character is growing and developing. I love everyone in her family but especially Grandma!
Even if I'm a fan of Ellery Adams I wasn't a fan of this novel: i found it a bit disjointed, there's some repetition and the mystery was a bit too slow.
Not my cup of tea
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine
Methods of Malice is the first book I’ve read in A Hope Street Church Mystery series by Tina Radcliffe and Ellery Adams.
I enjoyed the characters and despite the fact I began this series on the seventh book, the story was written so I connected with the characters, making it was easy to jump into this story.
The local community theater is performing It’s A Wonderful Life. A famous Broadway director and his people come to town to take charge of the play. The tension between the director and his people builds until the assistant director turns up dead. Besides digging into Scripture, Cooper Lee and the members of the Bible study dig into the murder, and look for clues.
In addition to pressure from the performance, there’s pressure to catch the killer before he, or she, strikes again.
Methods of Malice is a page turner and a delight.
I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Come along with some of the Hope Street Community Theater members as they try to prepare for a showing of It's a Wonderful Life and solve a murder mystery while trying not to get themselves killed! While Cooper is kind of dating Jon and trying to decide on a possible career change, she's trying to help her friends figure out who the killer is and keep anyone else from being killed in the process. See if you can figure out who it is before they strike again!
I highly recommend this story to anyone who loves an exciting murder mystery!
I received an early copy of this book to read. My review is my own opinion and I received nothing in return for it.
I really enjoyed Methods of Malice by Ellery Adams and Tina Radcliffe. It is a cozy mystery and a really fun read. The suspense kept my attention throughout the story and managed to surprise me with it’s conclusion. The characters are absolutely delightful and made me smile several times with their interactions.
I hadn’t read the previous mysteries in this series but I felt that it was great as a stand-alone and I never felt that I had missed out on something that I needed to know. I did, however, make plans to head to the library and check out as many books as I could find from this series because I enjoyed it so much.
I was also pleasantly surprised to see how wholesome the story was. It was nice to see a family that prayed prior to meals and genuinely enjoyed each other’s company. It was an excellent palate cleanser to the horror & thriller reads that are my norm and it gave me a touch of nostalgia that I didn’t realize I was longing for.
I will be posting my review on Instagram, Goodreads and Amazon.
Methods of Malice was a lovely little mystery! Great characters, a fun mystery to solve, a little romance, and a sweet Bible lesson made this a great read. This was my first book by Ellery Adams and Tina Radcliffe and I’m excited to read more of their work. Thank you to Beyond the Page Publishing, Net Galley, Ellery Adams, and Tina Radcliffe for the ARC!
This book is about a Christian Bible study group that has been involved in solving murders in the past. The group are all involved in a play at the Community Theater. The proceeds from the play is going to help the senior center buy a bus. A famous Broadway director, trying to change his tarnished reputation, agrees to direct the play and brings along his entourage. Among them is an enept techical director who takes a liking to Connor, and his totally unlikable assistant director, who ends up murdered in her hotel room. Conner and her Bible study group are in the thick of it again. Lots of red herrings, a little romance, and overall a good quick read.
This cozy, Christian murder mystery featuring a Bible study group is a delight to read. Cooper Lee and her fellow study group people are in a community play during the holidays, "It's a Wonderful Life" but it's anything but wonderful as a murder rocks the production! The group decides to "help" the police along by using their unique sleuthing talents and it makes for a very entertaining story. Cooper is very good at sleuthing but naive at relationships! I did enjoy how her relationship with Jon, the chef, continues to move along. Her grandma is hilarious! All the characters are entertaining and engaging. I enjoyed this story very much and tried, along with the characters, to figure out who was the killer!
Hmmm… this wasn’t my cuppa tea.
I do enjoy cosy mysteries and such, but this just fell flat on its face.
I did like the main character, but that’s about it.
The mystery was not intriguing, the resolution left me wanting some excitement and was so obvious it wasn’t fun.
The book kept mentioning Jessica Fletcher, which is heartwarming and nice, but they would also learned a thing or two form the aforementioned books and tv episodes.
Also it was heavy on Christianity but I suppose I should have gleaned that from this bunch being a bible study group.
Thank you for the ARC, NetGalley!
I cannot say enough good things about this book. I love Ellery Adams. Her books are always wonderful to curl up in bed and read. This is my first book in this series though and I was just blown away. I love how they mix scripture in with a cozy mystery. Using prayer and the Bible to solve murders? How did I not think of this before? I absolutely love it. There were so many elements that made this book come together so that it didn't come off as preachy or even campy as some books like this are want to do.
It came out just right. I am hugely impressed by the skill and the ability shown in this book. Even though this is my first time reading about Cooper and her buddies, it didn't feel like it. It was like jumping into something familiar and with ease. The world building was great, the individual stresses and problems that Cooper faced was nice to see. Everyone likes to think that if you're a Christian then life comes off so easily and it doesn't. Sometimes it makes it harder and I was happy to see that portrayed in this book.
Amazingly well written, all of the characters fully fleshed out, the mystery had me going in circles, and the way the group came together was fantastic. Everyone helped out, no one was left behind. I really liked that. I will definitely be reading these books from here on out.
I recommend this book a thousand percent. Thanks to Netgalley, the publishers, and to Ellery Adams for the ability to read and review this wonderful book. All thoughts and opinions are my own and completely honest.
Methods of Malice by Ellery Adams and Tina Radcliffe is an interesting novel featuring the Sunrise Bible Study friends and a production of “It’s A Wonderful Life.” They had all been cast and it was exciting because famous Broadway director, Simon Doyle, was involved, as was Trish’s long-time friend, Laura Champagne, who was an Assistant Director. Doyle was here to help refurbish his reputation following a reputed affair with the married star of his last production. It was not always pleasant as Regina McAllister, the older of the two assistant directors and Doyle’s ex-wife, could be less than pleasant. The whole thing was stressful, except that half of the proceeds were going to the senior center. That made Cooper want to hang in. Cooper had lots going on: a job, a new boyfriend, the play, and making her birdhouses. All was moving along until Regina turned up dead. Of course, the Sunrise Bible Study had to investigate.
I like this series. The idea of the investigators being part of a bible study makes me smile, as do the birdhouses that Cooper makes and sells. It is a cozy, cozy mystery. Cooper is a good character; a young woman who is finally coming in to her own after years of being kind of a wallflower. She has a hot new boyfriend, an exciting future, and now there’s the play. It is so sad that it was marred by this death, although that did sell tickets. The mystery was a pretty good one, punctuated by mishaps and odd happenings at the theatre. The detective, although he probably wouldn’t admit it, relied on the Bible study group to gather information from places he couldn’t. It’s always a shame when people get hurt, and several people were hurt in this story, but it seemed like recompense for their own misdeeds. It was a good story.
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Methods of Malice by Beyond The Page Publishing, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #BeyondThePagePublishing #TineRadcliffe #ElleryAdams #MethodsOfMalice
Oh, I do love a good cosy mystery but, until now, this series has passed me by.
The Bible Study Group are all involved, in one way or another, in the Hope Street Community Theater's fundraiser of It's a Wonderful Life. With the help of a Broadway director who is using the opportunity to offset some negative publicity, they're all hoping for a record sum to be raised but there are some strange goings on culminating in murder. Soon, Cooper and the rest of the group are investigating - after all, they have a production to save!
Although this is the seventh in series, it's new to me and I found it rather enjoyable. A good, enigmatic mystery with plenty going on and very likeable characters. I appreciated that the religion was part of the story and not overdone - as happens so many times. Well-written and with a lovely cover which catches the eye, this is a series I'll be happy to continue with. For me, 4.5*.
My thanks to the publisher for my copy via NetGalley; this is - as always - my honest, original and unbiased review.
The Hope Church Bible There’s more than just theatrical drama going on with this cozy, thank goodness, that the Hope Street bible study group is “likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind” (Philippians 2:2 KJV). Cooper Lee, artistic bird house creator, manager of one of the city’s largest office machine sales and repair companies, and now a new thespian. A production of It’s a Wonderful Life, directed by the notable, if somewhat notorious Broadway director, Simon Doyle and his touring company. Grammy Lee (not your typical Grammy, more of sassy Grammy), warns Cooper to stay away from the cad of a director, not that such a warning is needed, Copper has a guy, Chef Jon Eason, her not a boyfriend-boyfriend. As usual, it is a rather unfriendly character who is the victim and there is a cast of suspects in this stand-alone story that is part of a really good series. The bible group friends work together not only with their study of Philippians but also the mystery that is threatening to derail the much needed fundraiser. The story keeps you guessing as to the who and the why, to the point that you are guessing and then second guessing. On top of an entertaining story, you also get the recipes to some well described sweet treats, such as Pumpkin Bars and Banana Bars.
A Christian cozy with supportive characters, a positive message and a solid mystery. This could have been preachy but it wasn't. There was mention of praying and bibles verses but, if you want, you can consider it window dressing. The more spiritual message came through with the relationship between people.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest opinion.
