These books are so important and I found this particularly one incredibly inspirational.

I am ashamed to say I had never heard of Vanessa Nakate. This book will help promote awareness of her as a historical figure. She sounds like a very strong and passionate woman!

I wish these types of books existed when I was a child.

It also brings me so much joy to know that children won’t just be learning about old white men either.

Another great addition to the 'Little People BIG DREAMS' series of books for little kids.....this series features people who've made an impact or difference, & maybe brings awareness to them... Vanessa is a young activist raising awareness of the impact of climate change on the African continent. Once again Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara has joined with a great illustrator to tell Vanessa's story....& this book too would be fun to read to a kid! All of the books in this series have been good! This one deserves a 5 star rating, rewarding my learning experience!
I received a e-ARC from the Quarto Publishing Group-Frances Lincoln Children's Books via NetGalley in return for reading it & posting my own fair/honest review.

"Africans were the least responsible for climate change, yet were suffering the most." This quote from the book is so powerful and really makes you think. Prior to reading this book, I had never heard of Vanessa Nakate, but I am amazed by her activism. I love this series and how it introduces me to people I had not heard of.

Beautiful book! What I love about this series is that it makes these stories accessible for kids but doesn’t hide the truth about what the person had to go through. I had unfortunately never heard of Vanessa before reading this, and this book provided a great opportunity for my daughter and I to learn more about her and her work.

I remember hearing about the climate change conference where Nakate was cropped out of a photo and her comments were not quoted in articles about the conference. I was excited to see this book focusing on her story.

Vanessa Nakate is an Ugandan climate activist who has pushed for more recognition of how climate change affects the African continent.

This was a charmingly illustrated biography of an inspiring woman. Vanessa Nakate saw a problem in her education when her schools addressed climate change as a far away problem and she worked to bring more attention to a global issue.

I was delighted to share this story with my nephew. And it inspired me to do more research into what she’s doing now. She’s written a book and started a non profit organization focused on transitioning Ugandan schools to solar power.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for the ARC.

I really enjoyed reading this book, as surprisingly I had never heard of Vanessa Nakate!
And she sounds as though everyone should know who she is, and what she is known for.
Great book, written in an easy to understand way, with eye catching illustrations.

I really enjoyed learning about Vanessa Nakate - someone who I hadn't heard of before so it was lovely to see this series focus a title on her. As always the illustrations and text were perfectly pitched, sharing key events from her life and why she was so inspiring, I definitely think this is a book that will inspire young readers to make their voice heard.

I love this range of books. They are all so well written, interesting and informative, for both adults and children alike. My 8year old loved this title as always and I always like to read them as well. They always shed some new light on the person. Highly recommended.

This is a very reliable series for stories of prominent figures and the challenges that they overcame along their journey. I loved how this book featured a young woman from Africa in the fight for environmental justice, while also explicitly stating how the continent is experiencing many adverse effects of climate change even though they are not the biggest contributors to the issue. This is an important narrative to draw out. The one thing lacking in this particular book is providing the background on how the world became aware of Vanessa Nakate and the platforms she used to grow her following and voice. It seemed like suddenly she was invited to New York and Switzerland but it was never really discussed how she fought to get there. Still, this book centres an important voice in the fight for climate justice and should definitely be added to any collection of books.

Firstly, I absolutely love the Little People, Big Dreams collection, and own a few of the books myself! What I love about this book is that it’s perfect for all ages. Whether you’re an adult, teenager or young child, everyone has something to learn by reading this book, not to mention that it’s just a nice and easy read in general, the illustrations are cute, colourful and emphasise the text well. It nicely summarises the important aspects of Nakate’s life, and I love how there are two pages with real-life photos and a timeline. I didn’t know much about Nakate prior to this book, and I feel that I’ve learned much more after having read it. Overall, this is the perfect read for anyone who wants to learn more about an important activist, and the illustrations add to the easy yet important read!

I would like to thank Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This series is absolutely fantastic and I wish it existed when I was a kid. However, this is still quite relevant to educate adults as well, about historical/ actual influential people around the world and their work.

In this book we learn about Vanessa Nakate, a Ugandan climate-justice activist who is fighting for climate justice for Africans. I was shocked to learn she was cropped off from a picture with other climate change activists, which however, only enlightens the discrepancies between high and low income economies.

The illustrations are beautiful as always! This is a must buy for everyone with children and an amazing gift for other’s people kids.

Another beautiful addition to the Little People, Big Dreams series. As usual, fabulous bright and appealing illustrations are included, and I feel they really make the books special.

I didn't know anything about Vanessa Nakate when I saw this book, and it was a lovely introduction to her life. Perfectly pitched at children, it encourages them to think about climate change and how one person can make a big difference.

This short book has a powerful message about how Africa had been left out of the discussion around climate change when it is greatly affected by it. The feelings of frustration at being unfairly ignored practically leap off the page, making Vanessa Nakate as presented here very sympathetic.

The text is simple but conveys a lot of emotion and inspiration. The illustrations are also simple but brightly colored and the people's faces express a lot of emotion.

I would recommend this to classroom libraries as it is important for everyone to feel like they have a voice and it will inspire children to speak up for what they believe in, even if they are at first ignored.

One of the joys of reviewing children’s books is learning new things. I did not know who Vanessa Nakate was before reading this and now I will not forget her.

This is another good entry in this popular series that tells the stories of little people with big dreams. In Vanessa’s case, it was to make a difference by taking on the issue of climate change in Africa. Find out how she fought for her continent even after being left out of an important photo.

This title will inspire kids to think about the natural world. Maybe they too will grow up to make change happen.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for this title. All opinions are my own.

This is an important book for children and adults alike! The book talks about the effects of climate change in Africa and how an African girl did everything in her power to bring attention to the problem in her continent. It’s beautifully illustrated, making it an enjoyable read (especially for kids) with a very powerful story.

Like other reviewers, I had also not heard of Vanessa Nakate. I am so pleased I requested this book so that I could find out about this remarkable young woman of African heritage. Less well known than other activists, this book shows how one person can make a difference and end up influencing many others.
We are currently looking for new books to promote our reading for pleasure culture across the curriculum and this is certainly one I will be suggesting.
Our children love these books at school so it will be lovely to recommend a new one to them.

Another great addition to this series!
