A weekend bonding session for three men and their wives - great until one of the party is murdered. This weekend seemed to last weeks before the book finished! Too many questions and not nearly enough answers, not to mention all the “maybe/maybe nots and repetition of the same things. There were six people so why just the points of view of just one of the couples? Red herrings thrown into the mix just for the sake of it, rather pointless. The scene was set nicely once they’d all arrived at the cabin and I liked that part but sadly not the rest. Well, I read to the end and it passed some time! Good to take when you don’t want to have to concentrate too much.
Well, I can't say I enjoyed "The Lake." The plot was simple and generic but the first few chapters really drew me in however, it kinda dragged in the middle. Such a waste. It could've been more enjoyable.
Still, this was an OK read.
Set against the coldness of a lake, this thrilling read will keep you entertained throughout. It focuses on Debbie, and her fear of lakes, but she decides to try and deal with this fear. An accident happens at the lake, bringing all the relationships to the front again. Entertaining read.
This was a gA group of work colleagues go to a lake to get to know each other better before one of them starts work at a new company.
Once they're there, strange things begin to happen, and it seems that someone amongst them wants to scare the group.
The group of people not being friends exactly made this story all the more creepy, but when someone in the group unexpectedly dies, it becomes clear that someone wanted them dead. I had fun guessing who would want them dead and why.
There was a good mix of characters which kept the story moving pretty quickly with a couple of twists and turns.ripping story about
A intriguing thriller that had me open mouthed and I could feel the danger. Debby is a well represented character who may be in a dangerous situation.
I really wanted to get to this one, as it seemed interesting. This was requested when I first found out about NetGalley and I had requested so many ARCs that I could not get to all of them before they were archived. If I can find this somewhere for a reasonable price, I will try to get it!
Debbie joins her husband and 2 other couples on a little vacation by the lake. This is huge for Debbie as she is terrified of the water ever since her son drowned. Things start off a little rocky (one of the other men is definitely showing off and attempting to be the dominant figure). They also notice a strange fisherman on the other side of the lake who appears to be watching them. The couples all decide to climb a mounting and unfortunately one of the men does not return. What could have happened? Was there someone else on that mountain with them?
This book was a good read but not quite as fast paced as I usually like. I found the settings was beautiful but I was not a huge fan of all of the characters. I had it figured out pretty quick but there was enough going on to keep me interested in reading the book.
Would I recommend this book? Yes. The story was good and it isn't too long of a read.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a chance to read this book for free. This was my honest review.
A good psychological thriller with a great setting. Three couples go away for a holiday. The group dynamics are interesting and cause a lot of tension. I enjoyed the book and the multiple POV’s. The book is well written. It doesn't tire you. I figured out who the killer was but there was enough action to keep me entertained. The book kept my interest because there were twists and turns as to who did it.
The cover is what drew in my from the start. The beautiful lake with the red shoe in the foreground. Gives a little hint into what you will find in the book.Overall a good read.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read and review!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC! This book was gripping and I really enjoyed it however I will say I’m pretty good at guessing the “who done it” aspect so the suspect was pretty predictable to me. All in all a good thriller.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Just an ok read for me. Not the greatest characters and the plot and ending were a little flat. It wasn’t as much of a thriller as the summary led you to believe.
I did like the setting and the general idea of the book but it was slow.
When Debbie is given the opportunity to go vacationing with friends at the lake, she is hesitant to go. She doesn't enjoy going to the lake ever since her son drowned in one. Despite her reservations, she and her husband go on the trip and everything goes downhill quickly. One of their group is possibly murdered and Debbie realizes she needs to help solve the murder so she can go go home. This book was a fun quick read. I wasn't sure who the killer was and was shocked when I read the reveal. I look forward to more books from Kevin Lynch and thank the publisher for an advanced copy of this book.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.
What can enjoyable mystery!; If you are looking for a bit of escapism, look no further!
Lynch writes a captivating mystery, from the beginning there is a secret that one f the main characters is trying to keep hidden from his wife, but after the annoying braggart George plunges off a cliff in a struggle, everyone has a reason to have murdered him, and the original secret is no longer the most important thing someone is hiding!
Great well-written entertaining thriller.
Twisted thriller. Shocking plots and full of gripping chapters. Set in Ireland this one left me on edge throughout the book. Unputdownable book. Highly recommended.
This was a very compelling read that kept me interested from cover to cover. The twists and turns kept this book interesting.
not as gripping as i usually like my thrillers
Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for the review copy.
Thanks for allowing me to read this ARC.
Thanks to the publisher, the author and Netgalley.
This book was not what i usually read but it was enjoyable.
I did not find the ending to make much sense, not sure if i am alone with this thought?
Thanks for allowing me to read, just because it wasn't much for me doesn't mean someone else wont adore it.
Thanks again
3/5 stars
I didn’t like this book. The characters were unbelievable. The situations also seemed far fetched. I couldn’t wait to be done with it all. What a waste of time too.
This book was just okay to me, hence the three star rating.
Debbie joins her husband and some friends for a lakeside vacation. Debbie is terrified of lakes, ever since her son drowned. The holiday gets off to a bit of a weird start when the gang notices a fisherman that appears to be watching them. The group then decides to go on a hike. Near the top of the climb, the visibility turns foggy and one of the group members, George, disappears. His body is found the next day.
Who killed George? Debbie is determined to find out so that she can leave the lakeside house. However, once she starts investigating, she learns some of the group members may be keeping secrets. Who can she trust?
The premise of this book was a lot more interesting than the book turned out to be. I found the pace slow and some parts were boring. The ultimate twist was predictable. I never found myself on the edge of my seat wondering where the story would take me.
Thank you Inkubator Books and NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review (bit late on getting to this one).
I struggled with this book! It took me a week to read, whereas when its a great book I cannot put it down. I would give this author another go though!
3.5 stars.
I have mixed feelings because this is not a bad book. It is almost 4 for me because it reads easily and keeps you wondering what is going on. I would read more by this author.
But there were a few parts that bothered me:
- we hear a lot of reference to the child drown in a lake in her past that makes me wonder if there was a previous book on the incident itself. I wanted to learn more about the child and what happened.
- confronting someone you suspect to be a killer. Why on why? It is almost an easy way to wrap up the story.
- finding evidence after the police finished the search. How likely is that?
- the person who got killed was over the top unlikeable. The most interesting people to read about are neither extremely bad nor extremely good and who do things that one does not expect them to do.
Many thanks to Netgalley for a free copy in exchange of an honest review.
