This book is everything to me. I quite literally read this book in one sitting this morning and have never felt so immediately attached to a main character. I am Momo and she is me. I’m genuinely convinced that Eunnie somehow got inside my brain while writing this book. For real though, If You’ll Have Me is the cutest graphic novel about a people-pleaser/introvert/late-bloomer and a lone wolf/player. Momo and PG have the cutest friends-to-lovers moment as both girls work through their own self-doubt and unresolved past relationships. The art style is so incredibly beautiful– I want to get some of the pages tattooed on the inside of my eyes so I can stare at them forever. I loved that this takes place while the girls are in college, so you get to see Momo’s relationship with her roommate and the very collegiate act of being able to hang out with someone all day because you live super close to all of your friends and have a lot of free time. It was also just so sweet to see these two women of color happy and in love :,) This felt like a mix of Bingo Love and Heartstopper– two of my fav queer graphic novels. I will be talking about this book for the rest of eternity, I cannot recommend it enough!!
"If You'll Have Me" by Eunnie is a delightful and heartwarming tale that explores the complexities of love, friendship, and personal growth. With well-developed characters and a captivating storyline, this novel takes readers on an emotional journey filled with awkward encounters, unexpected challenges, and ultimately, a blossoming romance that defies the odds.
The story revolves around Momo Gardner, a kind-hearted and introverted individual who always sees the best in people. Her compassionate nature and willingness to lend a helping hand make her a relatable and endearing protagonist. On the other hand, we have PG, a seemingly aloof and mysterious character with a reputation for being a flirt and a player. However, as the layers of PG's personality are gradually peeled away, readers discover a vulnerable and emotionally invested individual.
One of the graphic novel's strongest aspects is its exploration of friendship. Momo's overprotective friend adds an additional layer of complexity to the budding romance, creating tension and forcing Momo to confront her own insecurities. The portrayal of friendships and their impact on romantic relationships feels genuine and provides added depth to the story.
Eunnie skillfully weaves together the romance and personal struggles of the characters, giving readers a glimpse into their pasts and the challenges they face in the present. PG's haunting past becomes a formidable obstacle, testing the strength of their relationship and the characters' ability to overcome their own fears. The author handles these sensitive themes with care, delivering emotional moments that resonate with the reader.
The writing style in "If You'll Have Me" is engaging and flows smoothly, allowing the reader to become fully immersed in the story. Eunnie excels in capturing the characters' emotions, making them feel genuine and relatable. The pacing is well-balanced, with a mix of lighthearted and intense moments that keep the reader invested throughout.
However, while the graphic novel excels in many areas, there are a few minor drawbacks. Some sections of the story could have been further developed to provide a deeper understanding of certain character motivations. Additionally, the ending felt slightly rushed, leaving a desire for more closure.
Overall, "If You'll Have Me" is a captivating and heartwarming romance that explores the complexities of love, friendship, and personal growth. Eunnie's well-crafted characters and engaging storytelling make for an enjoyable read that tugs at the heartstrings. Despite a few minor flaws, this graphic novel is a testament to the enduring power of love and the transformative nature of relationships.
What a delightful graphic novel. Momo and PG charmed me from the very beginning. It was impossible not to fall in love with these two characters. I loved how we got peeks at each of their pasts - using the black border to distinguish past from present was effective and easy to follow. This was an exceptional debut from the art to the story - a rare one that makes me ugly cry for the characters as they navigate new love. I look forward to reading Eunnie's next foray even if it wasn't in this world.
It's a good thing I read this when I was home alone because the screams I let out were pretty concerning.
In the first half they had me giggling and kicking my feet like an idiot, and then they had me crying my eyes out because Momo's insecurities really hit home. They're so cute together, and the art style is really pretty.
And PG is so insanely handsome, I was literally biting-my-own-fist kind of unhinged for the entirety of it (but especially in those first couple of pages because DAMN... iykyk)
omg this was so cute!! i loved PG and Momo so much! i loved getting to know PG’s past a little bit and learning that she really is a big softy! i love how she cares about Momo!! i really hope this will become a series and they’re will be more!!
This was an exceptionally cute and lighthearted Sapphic romance. The artwork was adorable, and I loved all of the characters! I haven't read a graphic novel in years and I'm so glad this was my introduction back into them. This was a really quick read and, just all around a joy. I highly recommend it!
Just based on the cover I knew this was going to be a cute love story, but of course it ended up being so much more! Momo being the shy, inexperienced girl when it comes to relationships finds herself with the well experienced “seducer” PG. Incoming meet cute and the classic misunderstanding this was a fairly quick read with amazing art panels throughout. I can’t wait to get a physical copy!
I absolutely loved this graphic novel! If you’ll have me is a sapphic joy! Not only do I love the art, but I also love the characters, this reminds me of Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me but with a happy premise. I love the typical dark & brooding “I only like one person and you are it” when it came to Momo and PG. I also really loved the friendships in this book, clear and thoughtful communication and the hopefulness that the other person doesn’t get hurt. That’s love, and I highly enjoyed.
Momo Gardner has never had a girlfriend and isn't interested in having one anytime soon so she can focus on her studies. That is, until she meets pretty and popular PG. PG seems like she can have anyone she wants and has a reputation of sleeping around, so after the two become friends, Momo wonders if their friendship will only amount to casual sex or if it could lead to something more.
I really like the anime style character designs and the height difference between Momo and PG. Also there's a cat cafe scene which is super cute!
Who gave this the right to be so dang cute???
Seriously very cute and very unexpected
Thanks publishers for gracing me with an adorable little sapphic graphic novel
ARC provided by Penguin in return for an honest review.
happy almost-pride month from me and this super cute, cozy, and sweet sapphic story!! Momo was such a precious little bug i just wanted her to be happy! and like…. points were made bc PG was HOT! the representation in this graphic novel was soooo well done and authentic. the illustrations were gorgeous and the storyline was just really warm and fluffy. definitely recommend!!!
Ummm....okay this is the CUTEST THING I've ever read!!! Kind of obsessed and you should absolutely preorder if you want an adorable sapphic romance. If You'll Have Me is a graphic novel following two girls falling for each other in the first year of college.
Momo is super nerdy and adorably awkward and has never had a girlfriend. PG is hot and cool and has a reputation for seducing lots of ladies. But if this opposites attract romance doesn't make you squee you're probably heartless. The art is fantastic and the story is really sweet and heartwarming. Go order a copy! I received a copy of this book for review via NetGalley, all opinions are my own.
This was a cute sapphic romance. It was real quick and I loved the main character Momo. She was in a self discovery while falling. I also loved her heterochromia; one green, one brown eye. She was quirky and her inner dialogues were point on for a self talker.
If you’re looking for a graphic novel that’s super quick and adorable, than pick this one up!
**Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Teen for the eARC. This in no way changed my opinion or rating**
This was so cute! The art style is very appealing and fluffy. I really like the character design, especially. It's nice to see a story that centers around two women of color. The romance was cute and well paced. I usually don't love a "misunderstanding" trope, but this may be the one time it was actually helpful and necessary for both characters to grow and show that they've changed over the course of the book. I like that Momo and PG each have separate lives and friends. It was nice that the whole book wasn't just their relationship, but showed both of them having a full character arc. I also really liked that the characters ask for consent and expressly state on the page that it's ok not to move too fast in a relationship without fear of the other falling out of love. That's an important aspect of relationship novels geared towards teens and I appreciated it's inclusion. Overall, I really enjoyed this title and would recommend it, especially if you like the Heartstopper series.
I felt all the feels while reading this graphic novel even though I'm on my way to a book signing event.
Eunnie is such a talented artist, author, and storyteller for creating IYHM.
Graphic novels are always easy to read because of the visual accompaniment but in this one, it managed to delivered this with additional sprinkles of feel-good first love teenage romance.
There's no way you won't fall in love with Momo. If I can choose a roommate or a friend for life, it'll be Momo.
And PG is an incredible fit to Momo's personality. They're rocking the whole town as partners and I hope there'll be more of them in Eunnie's future works.
RATING: 5stars
This book was SO CUTE! I cannot stress enough how much I adored this story and the characters. It isn't a long graphic novel but all the characters felt fleshed out and like real people I know/have known. PG and Momo are perfect together and I really enjoyed watching their relationship blossom, struggle, and solidify. The art style is also just so so perfect in my opinion!
