I am so happy that I discovered Shari Lapena books. I loved The Couple Next Door, Everyone is Lying did not disappoint. This fast-paced mystery thriller had me guessing until the end.

If you are looking for a good summer read and love a domestic psychological thriller with short chapters and lots of suspense with plot twists, then I recommend this book to you!

Thank you #netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have been a fan of Shari's work for several years now. This book is no exception to her incredible work and storytelling ability.

That said, this newest release veered off the usual course for me. The ending of an otherwise interesting and well developed story, felt incredibly rushed and it fell flat.
I am not usually able to predict the endings of Shari's books, which makes them all the more appealling. This time around, I was left wanting more and wanted a different ending.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.
All that aside, I was up half the night reading as per usual. I devour her writing style and know that I'm in for a psychological thrill ride. I did truly enjoy this book overall, I just felt slightly disappointed as this is the first book by this author that I have ever not been head over heels for.

Everyone Here is Lying – and they are – was a great, easy read. I flew through it, thanks to Shari Lapena’s great writing. Although I did figure out the twist before the reveal, it was still a bit surprising and different than what I thought it was going to be. The characters were all well written and easily distinguishable from one another, and I like that we got to get inside the minds of quite a few of them. The built-up suspense around where Avery might be, who took her and possibly hurt her was great, as was the slow unraveling of secrets and lies people were telling. I love this genre of books and was happy to receive a copy. Cannot wait to go back and read all the Shari Lapena books I’ve missed out on!

Everyone Here Is Lying makes it clear that you can't trust anyone. Small towns have the biggest of secrets. As the detectives search for a nine-year-old girl who has gone missing, it's clear that this case is anything but ordinary. The big question is which secrets are linked to the disappearance, and which secrets are just secrets that could have stayed buried?

My heart goes out to Erin Wooler in this book. She doesn't just have to deal with her missing daughter, but also her adulterous husband. It's been hard enough that she's dealing with the judgment of having a difficult daughter. I would actually love a sequel to see how she deals with all the other secrets that come out at the end.

In fact, my only complaint about this book is that it's too short. The ending is a little rushed, and I really want to see the aftermath.

Everyone Here is Lying was a book I had difficulty putting down. The story follows the Wooler family as they search for their missing daughter - but it seems everyone is keeping secrets on their street. As the pieces of the story slowly unfold, I was left guessing and second guessing what had happened - I truly did not see the ending coming.
While not my traditional thriller read, I would certainly recommend to anyone who loves suspense and mystery.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

3 stars for me. Grateful to have been given the opportunity to read this ARC..
I really enjoyed the first 2/3 of the book. The buildup was great . The part that let me down was the twist was predictable and a let down.
I figured I'd give it a chance to see it through incase that was a red herring and not the twist, however it was.
I am still interested in checking out the authors other works
I just have high expectations for thriller / mystery books.

I can always count on Shari Lapena for a twisty domestic suspense story and this one fit the bill.

Dr. William Wooler is having an affair with a colleague and neighbour, meeting up at a local motel weekly. This week however, the woman ends things with William and instead of going back to his job at the hospital he decides to go home early knowing no one will be there. Once there he discovers his nine year old daughter Avery home from school early. Avery is a difficult child. Mature for her age (reads like a 13 year old IMO), she has behavioural issues and is oppositional. They have words and William goes too far. William leaves the home and when Avery’s brother Michael comes home from school, he can’t find Avery and calls his mother. Avery is reported as missing and a search begins. Each of the neighbours are interviewed and each have things to hide.

This one is part police procedural and part slow reveal. I hooked onto one sentence early on and made a guess which turned out to be correct but it could just as easily have gone the other way and if I hadn’t been reading very carefully and taking notes, would likely have missed it.

I have read several of this Canadian author’s books and enjoyed them all. If you are looking for a mostly plot driven story and like deductive puzzles then this one might be perfect for you! I cannot wait to read what Lapena writes next.

Thank you to @netgalley and @penguinrandomca for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinions. everyone Here is Lying publishes July 25, 2023.

William is having an affair with a volunteer at the hospital he works at, or was. After Nora ends the affair William heads home for amount of alone time before his two kids get home from school. However, as he walks in the house he’s instantly aware his 9 year old Daughter, who is incredibly difficult and problematic, after getting in a disagreement with how she walked home alone and she mouths off, he gets so enraged he slaps her knocking her to the floor, after apologizing profusely he storms out of the house to cool down. Except less than an hour later he gets a call from his wife. Avery is missing.

This one left me a little uneasy and unsettled, mostly in a good way. It wasn’t a high paced jump scare thriller but instead a slow burning psychological analysis on a 9 year old and if she’s simply the way she is because of how she was raised. I couldn’t put this down and while everything flowed naturally and where I expected it to. I just can’t get it out of my head. Was Avery the way she was solely because of how her father reacted to her behaviours or something more.

Stanhope is your typical, safe Suburban neighbourhood. When Nine-Year-old Avery goes missing, the police begin to uncover that Stanhope isn’t as honest and secure as it appears.

This is my second Shari Lapena novel. I loved Not a Happy Family and was so excited to read her new release! I am strict with my mystery novel reviews. Many endings are predictable, and a lot of the weight of the rating falls on that surprising factor for me. This novel was full of surprises. There were several twists that I wasn’t expecting, and the last quarter of the book or so was eerily creepy.

A lot of the characters are unlikeable. The unreliability of several characters paints much uncertainty over which pieces of evidence are helpful and which aren’t. I had a couple of predictions of what happened to Avery, but I wasn’t expecting what actually happened. The twists keep coming even after you think everything has been resolved.

If you like quick, suburban mysteries, this is a must-read. This is my second 5-star rating for Lapena, and I need to dive into more of her books ASAP!

Secrets? Lies? Mystery? Suspense? Exciting? A page turner?
YES to all of those in this book.
I feel like if I tell more and in detail, I will be giving away spoilers. Or just re-telling the blurb.
Multiple POVs, fast paced, and brings out SO many emotions as you read. Loved it!
p.s.
and the title is the only thing that’s not lying here – because everyone, absolutely everyone in this book IS lying!

This was an easy to read thriller about infidelity, a difficult child, and a neighbourhood with secrets. Although there were a lot of characters (many unlikable) it was easy to follow. I enjoyed watching the neighborhood unravel and the secrets be revealed as they searched for a missing child. The ending did leave you hanging slightly and I would be interested in a sequel to see how the main characters handle the revelations. 4/5 stars.

Everyone Here is Lying is exactly what I want in a domestic thriller!

Everyone is hiding something: check.
You don't know who to trust: check.
Neighbour turns against neighour: check!

Shari Lapena's books always do it for me and this one is no exception!

Everyone Here is Lying is about a girl who goes missing and the investigation to find her. Lies are told, secrets are uncovered and everybody points the finger at the other.

Meanwhile, a family is desperately looking for their daughter and hoping for her safe return... or are they?

I love how you feel a range of emotions for all of these different characters: some you like, some you feel bad for and others you hate. I also loved the police investigation part of the story, how they work to find the missing girl.

I really enjoyed this book and I definitely recommend for fans of thrillers and mysteries! You won't want to miss this book!

A real page turner with twists and turns galore. I couldn’t turn the pages quickly enough!! This is a fast, interesting, gripping read. I loved it!

Told from multiple points of view, the plot unfolded smoothly and I enjoyed seeing the story through the various characters’ viewpoints. The short chapters helped to move the story along briskly and the ending was satisfying. My only quibble is that one of the main characters, a 9 year old girl, sometimes expressed thoughts that were that of an older person (say a teenager). However, that is a minor point in what was a great read! I had a great time reading this and highly recommend it.

Who took 9 year old Avery Wooler?

The generally quiet town of Stanhope has been shaken up. Nine year old Avery is missing and the clock is ticking to find her. During the investigation, secrets are learned, families are torn apart and everyone is under suspicion.

Let me start with the good for me. There is SO much going on in this book. From start to end, there is no "down time". It captured my attention and I binge read this in a day. It has alllll the drama, suspense and mystery which makes a good book. There are a lot of POV's going on at once. Normally, I am not a huge fan of so many POV's but the author makes this work so well. It was easy to figure out the characters and get to know them.

While I do not have anything negative to say about this book, I have to admit it is tough reading about a 9 year old missing especially in the context of this book. There is mention of child abuse (physical, mental, speculation of sexual) which is never easy to read about. I cannot go to much into the book without spoiling it but it was a mixture of fearing Avery and feeling sad for Avery.

The ending did not have enough closure for me. I would have liked to see an epilogue, I can appreciate the idea of how it ended but I needed more!

4 solid stars, highly recommend but also caution about the many trigger warnings. Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Viking for the advanced reader copy for me to review.

Everyone Here Is Lying by Shari Lapena sucked me into its addictive grasp, and didn't spit me back out until the end. Even though I read this book during a very busy week, I just had to make the time to read it!

This book gave me serious Gone Girl vibes from the get go, and that thought really didn't leave my mind as I continued reading - it just kept shifting and taking on a new meaning as I progressed. Reading this book was like watching the nightly news, but having all the nitty gritty details from behind the scenes. The dialogue in this thriller just seemed SO true to life for each character; exactly what people would say in these circumstances. To sum it all up, this book would make an incredible movie!

There was one moment when it felt like the action faded slightly, but then the plot kicked into a higher gear, and again I couldn't read fast enough to find out exactly what happened!

I'm a big fan of this ending! Huge!

This thriller ticked all the boxes it needed to, and led me down every rabbit hole along the way! This was my first by Lapena, and of course it will not be my last!

Thank you NetGalley, Penguin Random House Canada and Double Day Canada for the complimentary copy to read and review.

Everyone Here is Lying is a psychological thriller/mystery by Shari Lapena. I have enjoyed this authors books before and this is no exception!

William Wooler is a respected doctor, husband and father in his small town. William has been having a secret affair with a neighbour Nora Blanchard for months. After one more afternoon together, Nora tells William they can’t see each other any longer.

William is distraught and heads home thinking the house will be empty to find his difficult 9 year old daughter Avery at home. After having an argument with her, he leaves again. Not long after that he gets a frantic call from his wife that Avery is missing.

As the police investigate Avery’s disappearance, all of William’s dirty secrets come to the surface. But William isn’t the only one telling lies. As the police go through the neighborhood, they discover there is more to this small town and the missing girl than they expected.

I really liked this book! There were many twists and turns and it kept me interested from the start. None of the characters were very likeable including the missing child which added to the suspense of the story. This is a 4 star read for me and I recommend for any thriller/mystery readers out there!

Everyone, absolutely everyone here, is lying!
This story kicks off with two adults having an affair and lying to their respective families, and one of them makes a mistake that will change the lives of almost everyone on their street.
This book was a roller coaster of twists and turns and just when you think you've got a clue, it slams off into a different direction. I loved having different points of view, the story quickly unraveling from all the perspectives. The ending … I have no words. I desperately tried to shake another chapter out of my kindle.

If you're looking for a fast paced, wild ride, this book is for you!

Firstly, thank you Net Gallery for another fantastic read.

Everyone is lying is a bit of an understatement.
Shari Lapena does a smashing job of creating characters that couldn’t tell the truth to save their lives.
A swift moving story that keeps you guessing.
