Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada and Netgalley for an e-ARC of Everyone Here is Lying in exchange for an honest review.
Stanhope is your typical, safe Suburban neighbourhood. When Nine-Year-old Avery goes missing, the police begin to uncover that Stanhope isn’t as honest and secure as it appears.
This is my second Shari Lapena novel. I loved Not a Happy Family and was so excited to read her new release! I am strict with my mystery novel reviews. Many endings are predictable, and a lot of the weight of the rating falls on that surprising factor for me. This novel was full of surprises. There were several twists that I wasn’t expecting, and the last quarter of the book or so was eerily creepy.
A lot of the characters are unlikeable. The unreliability of several characters paints much uncertainty over which pieces of evidence are helpful and which aren’t. I had a couple of predictions of what happened to Avery, but I wasn’t expecting what actually happened. The twists keep coming even after you think everything has been resolved.
If you like quick, suburban mysteries, this is a must-read. This is my second 5-star rating for Lapena, and I need to dive into more of her books ASAP!

Secrets? Lies? Mystery? Suspense? Exciting? A page turner?
YES to all of those in this book.
I feel like if I tell more and in detail, I will be giving away spoilers. Or just re-telling the blurb.
Multiple POVs, fast paced, and brings out SO many emotions as you read. Loved it!
p.s.
and the title is the only thing that’s not lying here – because everyone, absolutely everyone in this book IS lying!

This was an easy to read thriller about infidelity, a difficult child, and a neighbourhood with secrets. Although there were a lot of characters (many unlikable) it was easy to follow. I enjoyed watching the neighborhood unravel and the secrets be revealed as they searched for a missing child. The ending did leave you hanging slightly and I would be interested in a sequel to see how the main characters handle the revelations. 4/5 stars.

Everyone Here is Lying is exactly what I want in a domestic thriller!
Everyone is hiding something: check.
You don't know who to trust: check.
Neighbour turns against neighour: check!
Shari Lapena's books always do it for me and this one is no exception!
Everyone Here is Lying is about a girl who goes missing and the investigation to find her. Lies are told, secrets are uncovered and everybody points the finger at the other.
Meanwhile, a family is desperately looking for their daughter and hoping for her safe return... or are they?
I love how you feel a range of emotions for all of these different characters: some you like, some you feel bad for and others you hate. I also loved the police investigation part of the story, how they work to find the missing girl.
I really enjoyed this book and I definitely recommend for fans of thrillers and mysteries! You won't want to miss this book!

A real page turner with twists and turns galore. I couldn’t turn the pages quickly enough!! This is a fast, interesting, gripping read. I loved it!
Told from multiple points of view, the plot unfolded smoothly and I enjoyed seeing the story through the various characters’ viewpoints. The short chapters helped to move the story along briskly and the ending was satisfying. My only quibble is that one of the main characters, a 9 year old girl, sometimes expressed thoughts that were that of an older person (say a teenager). However, that is a minor point in what was a great read! I had a great time reading this and highly recommend it.
Thanks to Penguin Random House Canada and Netgalley for this complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

Who took 9 year old Avery Wooler?
The generally quiet town of Stanhope has been shaken up. Nine year old Avery is missing and the clock is ticking to find her. During the investigation, secrets are learned, families are torn apart and everyone is under suspicion.
Let me start with the good for me. There is SO much going on in this book. From start to end, there is no "down time". It captured my attention and I binge read this in a day. It has alllll the drama, suspense and mystery which makes a good book. There are a lot of POV's going on at once. Normally, I am not a huge fan of so many POV's but the author makes this work so well. It was easy to figure out the characters and get to know them.
While I do not have anything negative to say about this book, I have to admit it is tough reading about a 9 year old missing especially in the context of this book. There is mention of child abuse (physical, mental, speculation of sexual) which is never easy to read about. I cannot go to much into the book without spoiling it but it was a mixture of fearing Avery and feeling sad for Avery.
The ending did not have enough closure for me. I would have liked to see an epilogue, I can appreciate the idea of how it ended but I needed more!
4 solid stars, highly recommend but also caution about the many trigger warnings. Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Viking for the advanced reader copy for me to review.

Everyone Here Is Lying by Shari Lapena sucked me into its addictive grasp, and didn't spit me back out until the end. Even though I read this book during a very busy week, I just had to make the time to read it!
This book gave me serious Gone Girl vibes from the get go, and that thought really didn't leave my mind as I continued reading - it just kept shifting and taking on a new meaning as I progressed. Reading this book was like watching the nightly news, but having all the nitty gritty details from behind the scenes. The dialogue in this thriller just seemed SO true to life for each character; exactly what people would say in these circumstances. To sum it all up, this book would make an incredible movie!
There was one moment when it felt like the action faded slightly, but then the plot kicked into a higher gear, and again I couldn't read fast enough to find out exactly what happened!
I'm a big fan of this ending! Huge!
This thriller ticked all the boxes it needed to, and led me down every rabbit hole along the way! This was my first by Lapena, and of course it will not be my last!
Thank you NetGalley, Penguin Random House Canada and Double Day Canada for the complimentary copy to read and review.

Fast paced! Could not put down this book! Every page was filled with twists and turns!
I was unfortunately disappointed with the abrupt ending……..

Disclaimer: I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Everyone Here is Lying is a psychological thriller/mystery by Shari Lapena. I have enjoyed this authors books before and this is no exception!
William Wooler is a respected doctor, husband and father in his small town. William has been having a secret affair with a neighbour Nora Blanchard for months. After one more afternoon together, Nora tells William they can’t see each other any longer.
William is distraught and heads home thinking the house will be empty to find his difficult 9 year old daughter Avery at home. After having an argument with her, he leaves again. Not long after that he gets a frantic call from his wife that Avery is missing.
As the police investigate Avery’s disappearance, all of William’s dirty secrets come to the surface. But William isn’t the only one telling lies. As the police go through the neighborhood, they discover there is more to this small town and the missing girl than they expected.
I really liked this book! There were many twists and turns and it kept me interested from the start. None of the characters were very likeable including the missing child which added to the suspense of the story. This is a 4 star read for me and I recommend for any thriller/mystery readers out there!

Everyone, absolutely everyone here, is lying!
This story kicks off with two adults having an affair and lying to their respective families, and one of them makes a mistake that will change the lives of almost everyone on their street.
This book was a roller coaster of twists and turns and just when you think you've got a clue, it slams off into a different direction. I loved having different points of view, the story quickly unraveling from all the perspectives. The ending … I have no words. I desperately tried to shake another chapter out of my kindle.
If you're looking for a fast paced, wild ride, this book is for you!

Firstly, thank you Net Gallery for another fantastic read.
Everyone is lying is a bit of an understatement.
Shari Lapena does a smashing job of creating characters that couldn’t tell the truth to save their lives.
A swift moving story that keeps you guessing.

Shari Lapena does it again!
As the book starts, we find out that William, a respected doctor and family man, has been having an affair with Nora, who works with and who also happens to live in his neighbourhood. One afternoon, the affair abruptly ends. William is sad and angry. He returns home, to find his nine-year old daughter, Avery, home early from choir practice. An argument erupts and William loses his temper.
A few hours later, Avery is missing. What happened to Avery is a mystery. Did she run away? Was she taken? Who is responsible? It seems every in the neighbour has a secret to hide. Is their secret related to Avery or is it something else entirely?
This was a real page-turner. I could not put this one down - I definitely kept saying "one more chapter!" Shari Lapena did an amazing job taking us on a wild ride. There were so many different suspects. Every time I thought I had something figured out, a new suspect emerged.
I found the characters interesting, especially Avery. Lapena did an excellent job of weaving the "gossip of the neighbourhood" with suspense and mystery. I really liked the final twist too!
Highly recommend this thriller for your summer reading list.
Thank you Penguin Random House Canada, Doubleday Canada, and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a unique twisted tale where every page brings something unexpected. So many twists and turns and suspenseful as heck. Well written with characters that genuinely make you feel what the author intended for them. This moves along at a good pace and everyone’s tangled web is unraveled with jaw dropping surprises.
A great read!

Nine year old Avery Wooler is a difficult child. When she goes missing one day after being sent home from school, her family is frantic. Many people on the street have reason to be suspect, and many of them have their own secrets to keep. Will the police find out who took her, and why, before it's too late?
This was a quick-paced, no fluff, no excess character development kind of read. The characters were all unlikeable. Some characters were quite unrealistic and I had a hard time believing Avery's character as a nine year old. Everyone made poor decisions. Having said all that, I flew through this book due to the pacing and had to know what was happening next. It kept me entertained throughout and I kind of loved to hate everyone in it. Though the ending was a little abrupt, I don't mind this type of ending and was satisfied.

Unsettling, intricate, and tortuous!
Everyone Here is Lying is a twisty, disturbing mystery that takes you into the lives of a handful of residents of the Stanhope community, including the Wooler family, as their worlds get turned upside down when one afternoon, nine-year-old Avery Wooler vanishes without a trace leaving some residents eager to help however they can, some pointing fingers at anyone they don’t get along with, and all of them scrambling to keep their darkest secrets hidden for good.
The writing is brisk and sharp. The characters are manipulative, secretive, and unlikeable. And the plot is an eerie, suspenseful tale full of twists, turns, secrets, surprises, lies, betrayal, familial drama, neurodiversity challenges, adultery, and suspicious personalities.
Overall, Everyone Here is Lying is another ominous, gripping, sophisticated tale by Lapena that kept me guessing from the very first page and ultimately left me chilled, satisfied, and curious to see what her devious mind could possibly come up with next.

I have enjoyed every book I’ve read by Shari Lapena, and this one did not disappoint!
William is having an affair with his neighbour Nora. She breaks it off and later the same day William’s daughter Avery goes missing. The police interview everyone on the block and try to untangle the web of lies.
This book kept me guessing, I didn’t want to put it down!

Shari Lapena always write such good thrillers full of twists and turns. This book is no exception! It’s fast-paced with a full cast of characters, each with their own secrets, each more suspicious than the last.
I was immediately hooked and couldn’t stop turning the pages to see what would happen next.
The ending moved quickly but I was both satisfied and dying to know more.
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a review

I'm am a huge fan of Shari Lapena, but I struggled a bit reading this book. It was good, but it didn't flow and captivate me like her other books did. I can't pinpoint exactly what didn't work for me.
Avery is nine years old and when she disappears, there's a frantic search trying to figure out what happened to her. All the characters, and there are many of them, have a reason to lie.
Although this wasn't my favourite, I think it was good overall and deserves 4 stars.

The Wooler family has a lot of secrets. William is having an affair and struggles to connect with his nine-year-old daughter, Avery. Avery is known for being difficult and struggles with her behaviour at school and at home. When William comes home and gets in a fight with Avery, it’s nothing new. But when she goes missing, things begin to come to light. Suddenly their idyllic neighbourhood doesn’t seem so safe as the time is ticking to find Avery.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this thriller. Lapena has been hit or miss for me in the past but this was definitely a hit. I was hooked right from the start as William’s deceptions really set the tone for everyone else to follow suit. I loved following along as everyone’s dirty laundry was uncovered. The twist was great and I didn’t see it coming!

Nora and William have been having an affair, but when Nora tells William it’s over, he heads home assuming no one will be there. Unfortunately, his willful 9-year old daughter, Avery (with ADHD and something else) is there; she has been sent home early from school. William loses his temper with her, hits her, and apologizes. Next thing you know, Avery is missing.
This was quite good. It didn’t take long to get moving and everyone – it seems – has something to hide! I was surprised that something was revealed about half-way (?) through the book (maybe a bit more), so earlier than I would have expected, but there was, of course, more to come. The story came out via following many different characters, including one of the detectives. Wow, Avery was a pain in the butt – sure didn’t like her. I wasn’t crazy about the end – it seemed almost unfinished; I certainly would have liked to know what happened after.
