Thank you to NetGalley, Shari Lapena and Penguin Random House Canada for the free ebook in exchange for an honest review.
I see so many mixed reviews of Lapena’s work, but honestly her writing is just for me! I really enjoy and binge just about everything she writes. This was no different. I was reading this late into the night and the twists! So good!

William is a doctor who is having an affair with a neighbour who is a volunteer at the hospital. Both have families to consider and the woman breaks it off. When William goes home broken-hearted, Avery, his nine-year-old daughter, is unexpectedly there. She has deemed "difficult" by everyone and does what she wants (her family lets her get away with it). She provokes William's anger, he slaps her, apologizes and then he leaves. When the family gets home, they discover that Avery is missing and contact the police. As the police investigate, they discover there are many who could have made Avery disappear ... her father, a couple older boys who live on the street, perhaps a stranger, and more.
I've read a few other books by this author and thought this one was okay. I would have enjoyed it more except I disliked Avery immensely and found her character way over the top and unrealistic ... I was hoping the kidnapper would kill her (nasty to say about a child, I know). It's written in third person perspective with a focus on wherever the action is. It ended abruptly ... I turned the page expecting a new chapter to start but there were only blank pages. As a head's up, there is swearing.

Wow! Shari Lapena is a master. I could not put this book down! This is such a simple premise - a young girl goes missing - but Lapena takes this idea and twists it. She layers in the families and possible suspects, expertly weaving the truth with the disctractions. It had me guessing, jumping from suspect to suspect. It also had that underlying creepiness factor that comes when it surprises you what humans are capable of. Finally, that ending, I mean ... it doesn't get much better than that!! Loved this read so much!!!

William and Nora were having an affair when Nora decided to end things
William and Erin are married with 2 children Michael 12 and Avery 9.
Nora married to Al and has a daughter named faith and a son Ryan
Then Avery goes missing and everyone is lying in order to save themselves. Quite the whodunnit read.
Without giving any spoilers away, do yourself a favour and pick up this book

Shari Lapena's "Everyone Here is Lying" is a riveting psychological thriller. Set in the small town of Stanhope, this novel delves into the lives of a group of seemingly ordinary individuals whose lives become intertwined after a tragic incident.
The story unfolds through multiple perspectives, each revealing just enough information to make you need to figure out what is happening. I admit that at the 30% mark I felt that something had to happen as there was no way that a whole book was going to be based on just trying to search for this child. But then we learn more about the various secrets of all the characters and then we start to see that this is about a lot more than we assumed.
I found the book to be fast-paced and engaging, effortlessly drawing me into the tangled lives of the characters. Lapena skillfully balances plot twists and reveals, ensuring that the suspense never wavers. With each chapter, the tension builds, and the stakes become higher, making it nearly impossible to put the book down.
The characters are well-developed, each harboring their own secrets and hidden agendas. Lapena cleverly manipulates the reader's perception of these characters, making it difficult to discern who can be trusted.
While the ending may leave some questions unanswered, Lapena delivers a satisfying resolution that ties up the major plot threads. I do question the age of Avery - and without giving a lot away - and if what happened seems logical for a 9 year-old, but I don't really know much about 9 year olds.
This was a nice quick read, and I think that it will be a great beach read this summer!
Thanks to NetGalley for the eARC.

Thank you Penguin Random House Canada and netgalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
If Shari Lapena writes it. I will read it. Her first book The Couple Next Door was what introduced me to the physiological thriller genre soo many years ago.
Stanhope is a safe neighbourhood for family to raise their children. But when Avery Wooler, a child with behavioral problems goes missing just as the title suggests everyone here is lying. You only find out the truth as same pieces start connecting.

Wowzers. This book is what I imagined the books “The Push” and “None Of This Is True” is put together.
Basically the creepy factor of a child who has clear mental health psychotic tendencies with a neighbourhood that all lies.
Few things I struggled with like the ending, the autistic child parts, the lack of depth of the parents .. but it was a quick read and I know many thriller readers will binge it.
Also, personally I’m glad I don’t live near them.. and dang Avery is a character I’m not going to forget. 🤯
3.5 stars

OH MY GOD.
This was my first Shari Lapena book and it most certainly won’t be my last.
This sucked me in from the first chapter and kept me guessing until the very end. I really enjoyed the omniscient narration style of this book. Getting to see the details going on with each character really kept me engaged.

This book was AMAZING! I binged this at the lake. Kept me guessing until the end. Suspensful and packed with twists and turns. The lies!!! I couldnt get over it! Easily 5 stars! Another wonderful book by Shari Lapena! Thanks netgalley for the ARC!

Thanks to Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review. … so here goes…. So not my thing. Plot driven, lightweight read. Intriguing? Kind of. Hard to put down? … in a perverse way … it is. But from a character perspective, no one is remotely likeable or redeeming (which, when you look a the title is kind of apparent) .. most notably the 9 year old girl. It seemed every time I turned a page, things got darker and more uncomfortable. At the end of the day the story reinforces that every choice someone makes – as small as it might be -- could have dire consequences because you truly never know who’s involved and what kind of reaction will be generated. Overall, I’d say the book was moderately enjoyable but it’s neither a pleasant or uplifting book to read.

William and Erin and their family of two kids are your normal, average family. William is a doctor and has a great career and their kids are healthy and happy. However, William is having a secret affair with a woman on their street. When she decides to end the affair this sets off an unexpected series of events. Upon returning home he is greeted by his daughter Avery, who got sent home from school early. William gets upset and hits her and then leaves as he is scared by his actions. When he returns he finds out Avery is missing and the hunt is on to find her.
Shari Lapena is an auto buy author for me and I absolutely loved this book. I read it in one day and could not put it down. The book has so many great twists and turns that readers will absolutely love. The ending was shocking and unpredictable. I will be highly recommending this to everyone I know.

Thank you net galley for giving me this opportunity to read this book. I have to say that it kept me reading to find out what happened.
It takes place in a small town on a quiet street.
William is a husband, father and a doctor. He has been having an affair with a hospital volunteer. He meets up with his paramour at the local motel where she decides to end their affair.
William goes home upset that their affair ended and he finds his 9 year-old daughter home from school. William loses his temper and hits his daughter.
William leaves to process his thiughts. Several hours later his daughter Avery is declared missing.
Everyone one this quiet street has something to hide and are willing to lie to the police.
This book really piqued my interest and kept me reading to find out what really happened.

I can always count on Shari Lapena for a bingeworthy thriller!
Everyone Here is Lying is a multi POV domestic thriller with a whole host of lying characters. I really appreciate how easy it was to keep track of all the characters, which says a lot when character development is at the thriller level. I was sucked in from the first page, and read it with in a day. There were a few points where I felt we were suddenly being told a lot of information, instead of show, but those points were few and far between. There wasn't a shocking twist, and I don't think this will be one that sticks with me long term, but it was certainly an enjoyable, bingeable read... perfect for the summer!
If you like Lapena, or just love the escape of a quick thriller, this one is definitely for you!
Thank You to NetGalley, Author Shari Lapena, and Penguin Random House Canada/Doubleday Canada for this ARC.

Shari Lapena has been an auto buy author for me since she wrote The Couple Next Door. I love her writing style - it is wonderfully contradictory, somehow managing to be both straightforward and complex, shocking and realistic, foreign and familiar all at the same time. I always have high expectations for her work and Everyone Here is Lying absolutely lived up to them.
If you know me, you know a multi POV domestic thriller that feels utterly believable is my favourite, which is exactly what this was. The characters felt realistic and familiar, which is essential to me. The plotting and pacing were on point, immediately absorbing you and keeping the reader guessing right up until the end.
While the twists didn’t shock me, that didn’t matter, because I absolutely loved the story and the ending. I was never sure of what was really happening but had a lot of different working theories (some were right and some were very wrong) which is the kind of novel I love to read.
As always, I really enjoyed this one! Thank you to @penguincanada for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This one is available everywhere on July 25th and I absolutely recommend picking it up.

Well worth the 336 pages to get to the last paragraph!
9-year old Avery is missing in this quiet Stanhope neighborhood after having an altercation with her father a respected doctor in the community. Dr. Wooler’s affair has just been ended by Nora a volunteer who works in his hospital and lives down the street. I struggled with the believability of Avery’s character however she is the center of the whole story.
The novel is aptly named as everyone is lying. Neighbors are gossiping and peering out windows watching everyone’s activities. A page-turner story with suspense, twists and turns and jaw dropping end!
Thank You to NetGalley, Author Shari Lapena, and Penguin Random House Canada/Doubleday Canada for my advanced copy to read and review.

This is a perfect summer thriller, it’s bingeable, a real page turner, I finished it in a day so big points to Shari for that!
However, despite being a real pageturner, the writing was very plain and the story will
Soon be forgotten.
A book for summer but not your forever shelf.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the advanced copy all opinions are my own.

4.5 STARS - Shari Lapena is one of my auto-buy, must-read thriller authors because she writes one helluva good, twisty suspense read.
Everyone Here Is Lying is set in Stanhope, a suburban community that has more than its fair share of secrets and lies. This domestic thriller has great tension and centres around a missing child. Avery Wooler is a nine-year-old little girl who goes missing after last being seen by her father - a man with little patience and a secret mistress on the side.
Filled with a group of unlikeable but interesting characters, Lapena takes her readers on a joyride of deceit, suspicious characters and an intriguing whodunnit. Readers benefits from seeing into the lives, lies and omissions of various characters in the small town and will, no doubt, suspect pretty much everyone because ev-er-y-one has secrets to hide.
I had to suspend disbelief over one character's abilities and shear wickedness, but Lapena takes us on a non-stop, wild ride with short chapters and great misdirection that will keep readers guessing and second-guessing. And despite the rather abrupt ending, this is one of my favourite books by this Toronto-based, lawyer-by-day, thriller-author-by-night who is at the top of her game.
You'll find this book in stores on July 25, 2023
Disclaimer: My sincere thanks to DoubleDay Canada for my advanced paperback ARC and finished copy of this title which were given in exchange for my honest review.

EVERYONE HERE IS LYING is my second Shari Lapena novel and likely won't be my last. William Wooler's been having an affair but one afternoon his affair ends, leaving him devastated and angry. His daughter, Avery, is unexpectedly home from school when William arrives causing him to lose his temper. Avery is declared missing several hours later. This is a neighbourhood filled with lies as the investigation into Avery's whereabouts brings the truth to light.
First let me say, what a beautiful cover?! I love sunset colours on book covers - nothing draws me in quicker.
EVERYONE HERE IS LYING is a quick and easily bingeable read equipped with short chapters that keep you flipping the pages as more and more lies come to the surface as each person in this Stanhope neighbourhood are looked at under a magnifying glass during the investigation of a missing child.
This story is told in multiple perspectives, all in the third person. I thought this was a neat way at looking into the key players of this story's views and uncovering some of the lies they've been holding back. What I didn't love about this storytelling method was the choppy and jarring transitions from one character's POV to the next within the span of a sentence. A smoother segue would have been appreciated for a better flow to the story.
There are lots of characters introduced during this neighbourhood thriller, some that are more crucial to the story than others. I can't say that I liked any of the characters and felt that even the more central characters were grating, unlikeable, and one-dimensional.
Is it just me or is there an inordinate amount of sobbing that transpires in this thriller?! I feel like 90% of the characters are described to be sobbing from one scene to the next. I get that a child's disappearance is an emotional time, but why is EVERYONE crying?!
Overall, this is a story whose plot is relatively straightforward and easy to follow. The ending was relatively unexpected in how it came to be, a bit rushed, and a certain amount of suspension of belief may be required to fully believe how certain things happened. Ultimately, it's all really well explained so it's hard to fault it for it's slightly out-there conclusion.
I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher, Doubleday Canada, of this advanced digital copy for the opportunity to read this novel in exchange for an honest review! All opinions shared are my own.

This was my first Shari Lapena, and I totally get the hype! When a wholly unlikable child goes missing, the reader is put in an interesting position: who are we really rooting for? Everyone Here Is Lying tells the story of Avery's disappearance from multiple points of view, making for a fast-paced read that's hard to put down.

I admit I never heard of Shari Lapena before. Which is a pity. I also admit I didn't think at first I was going to like this book. I thought the plotting and writing style were a bit too simple.
But I got into this book. I found at the end of each chapter i had to keep on going.
Everyone Here is Lying is a thriller about a nine-year-old girl, Avery Wooler, who goes missing one day on the way from school. It's a sort of "This Town" that takes place on one street. All the major characters live on this street and all seem to be telling lies.
There are many suspects, including Avery's father, a doctor who's been having an affair with a neighbour, Nora down the street,. And her son also becomes a suspect when another neighbour phones in tip that she saw Avery get into his car.
But, as it says on the cover, everyone here is lying.
What makes this book different than standard suspense/police investigations, is that this one doesn't follow the thoughts of one leading detective. Instead the narrative switches between the points of view of all the major characters. One minute you're in Nora's mother's mind, the next a divorced woman across the street. And no one is beyond suspicion.
At first I also though that one of the characters was a bit too hard to believe, but then about half-way through, I realized something about them. And there are a few things a bit stretched; but if you're looking for a fun summer's read, this could very well be it.
