This just lacked character development and creativity. It felt like a very basic thriller - sadly not her best.

Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada, Doubleday Canada and NetGalley for this ARC!

Shari Lapena always writes the best thrillers and Everyone Here is lying is no exception.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat and I did not expect the twists and turns that happened!

4 Stars!

Dr. William Wooler has it all. He is a respected surgeon, good-looking, married to Erin and they have 2 children, Michael (12) & Avery (9). Avery has a personality disorder that controls the family leaving William frustrated. Nora Blanchard is a hospital volunteer, wife and mother. William & Nora begin a weekly affair and soon realize they want more. Nora suddenly breaks off their affair. Avery manipulates William then disappears leaving William trapped in a lie to hide their conflict and his affair.

The trauma & investigation while two detectives lead the search to find Avery is very emotionally intense. The final outcome had me cheering for Casey the interviewer.

Another great read from Shari Lapena.

I was excited to read Lapena's next work as I've been a fan of her entire backlist, and this definitely didn't disappoint! I really appreciate Lapena's writing style- it's concise with no frills, and it somehow always suits her premises perfectly. I read Everyone Here is Lying in one sitting and was invested until the very end. The only thing I'll say is that at first I had a difficult time keeping track of all the different characters and differentiating them in my head, particularly with the female neighbours, but after a while this wasn't an issue. I'd recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of domestic thrillers and Lapena fans alike.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book to read and review.

Shari Lapena is an enjoyable author for me, so I was excited to get my hands on this one early. The premise of the book is fairly straight forward; a young girl goes missing, and everyone is lying about what really happened. There are lots of characters, but they're generally easy to keep track of, and there are lots of interrelated stories that come out as people start to lie, or get caught in their lies. The way the whole neighborhood was interwoven was well done. Many people feel like Avery's character was unbelievable, but as someone who works in mental health, I found her character to be plausible - particularly in a family that is trying to placate the problem rather than address it head on.

The part where this book lost me was the ending. I was rating this a solid 4-star mystery type read, right up until the end - and the last page plummeted this one a full star for me. It felt completely rushed, almost unfinished, and it left us with a sort of cliff hanger that 1. we already knew the answer to, and 2. as a result of already knowing what happened, didn't make any sense to end that way. As a final, desperate plea about this cliff hanger; point #3. please don't make a sequel, it doesn't need to exist (i'm looking at you, 'The Family Remains').

Very gripping thriller. The title was appropriate as everyone really was lying. I did find this more plot driven than character driven, but for the most part, it worked for me as this was more of a thriller type of book, which often don't have as much character development. There were places where I would have preferred to concentrate on one person, such as Gully or Erin, rather than bouncing around to what felt like everyone's point of view.

The ending was a nice twist, and the read was enjoyable overall.

When 9 year old Avery goes missing from her home one afternoon, an entire neighborhood is turned upside down as everyone becomes a suspect and no one knows who to trust.
I thought this book was a well paced domestic thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat until I got to the end. My only real complaint is that I wanted to know what happened next! :D

Riveting!!! The type of book that once you start, you will want to stay up all night to finish!
So many twists and turns it will make your head spin!

Even though there are a lot of characters in the book, they are drawn out enough that it never gets confusing. Each character is flawed in some way, making it hard to know who is telling the truth, but, like the title suggests, "Everyone Here is Lying."

I have enjoyed Shari Lapena's other books, but I think this is my new favourite!

I would like to thank NetGalley and Penguin Random House for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

"It's not necessarily the ones who seem different that you need to be afraid of - it's the ones who carry off normal without anyone else suspecting a thing."

Everyone Here is Lying by Shari Lapena is everything you want in a thriller: exciting, absorbing and unpredictable.

Avery Wooler has gone missing. Following an altercation with her father, the young girl disappears from a community where "things like this never happen." But with each player in the story having their own motivation, and their own complicated relationship with the truth, nothing is what it seems. Who took Avery and what else will be revealed in the search for the "truth"?

This was an exciting and thrilling read for me. While I appreciate a thriller that takes its time, I have a huge appreciation for thrillers that are quick, addictive and fast-paced. The author barely gives you room to breathe before the next twist and turn, which I loved. This pacing makes the breakneck pace at which the families involved receive and have to navigate new and sometimes conflicting information. You're on this ride together. Lapena clearly knows what she's doing and it shows.

The cast of characters will seem familiar to anyone who has lived in a small neighborhood where everyone knows everyone. They're first drawn with broad strokes but each page transforms them into three dimensional people, who may or may not be deserving of the reader's trust.

Everyone Here is Lying is full of twists and turns, and interesting characters and relationships. This is my first Shari Lapena book and this one makes me want to go back and read her whole library.

This one is out on July 25th and I highly recommend it if you're looking for your next great thriller. Thank you @PenguinRandomHouseca for the opportunity to read and review this title.

Stanhope – a family neighbourhood, where everyone has secrets, and everyone is lying.

Opinion: Shari Lapena’s best book to date. I said it.

This book is such a suspenseful domestic thriller. The author did an excellent job of slowly introducing the characters. There ended up being a lot of characters by the end, but by slowly introducing them, it was easy to keep track of them and I didn’t find myself thinking “who’s that again?”.

This one captured my attention right from the start, and held it all the way through! It is easily bingeable and such a page-turner.

Everyone Here is Lying releases July 25th.

This psychological thriller had tension, suspense, and interesting characters. I didn't want to put it down until I found out who was responsible for the abduction. There were so many possible villains and as the title says, everyone is lying. I'm starting to think that suburbia in general incubates dark secrets and horrible people! Every time I thought I had it figured out another piece of evidence was presented or recanted. I felt sorry for the police because they always seemed a step or two behind. When I got to the big reveal it was a bit disappointing, not because I guessed correctly but rather because I found it too far fetched. No spoilers here, not even any hints. I thought that the dastardly ploy was too Machiavellian for the supposed architect and just not realistic. I also didn't like the ending which cut off when it was just getting good. I wanted to see more of the final consequences for this person and it ended right when that was about to happen! Despite my dissatisfaction with the ending, I still think this was a very good domestic thriller and totally worth picking up.

Kids dont go missing in Stanhope, its a safe community, a perfect place for families to grow. But when 9 year old Avery Wooler goes missing on her way home from school, neighbours start to question their percieved safety. The police know given the timeline and the close proximity to the school, it seems probable her kidnapper might be someone on the very street Avery lives on. As the police begin their investigation they uncover affairs, secrets, and motives all around.

Ive previously read The Couple Next Door and I really enjoyed it. The authors writing style and storytelling ropes you in with a fast paced story full of twists. My jaw dropped at the end.

Thank you so much to Netgalley, Penguin Random House Canada, and Shari Lapena for the advance reading copy in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

I want to start off by saying Shary Lapena thriller have all be 5 stars for me, I absolutely love all of her books. I've been watching a ton of true crime and missing children's cases and kidnapping cases, so as soon as I found out the premise of this book, I knew I needed it.

I love the fact that we followed so many different points of view throughout. The disappearance of 9-year-old Avery Wooler kicks everything off
Slowly we meet more and more people from this little street, and more secrets are revealed.
This is one of favourit endings to her books and I can't wait for everyone to be aw to read this.

Thank you, to NetGalley and Pengiun Group Viking for this eARC.

Avery, a difficult girl has disappeared in the safe and charming town of Stanhope. Her disappearance unveils secrets of almost everyone living on the street, especially those of her own family. Despite this, there are few leads and a lot of confusion. No one knows who they can trust, especially since they believe they can’t trust Avery herself.

I enjoyed this! Super short chapters, and extremely fast paced. There are multiple character's perspectives in this story, from main characters to more minor, but for me it added to it. You knew what each character was thinking, so it kept you guessing the entire story. I liked how what happened was slowly revealed and then the story kept going. This definitely kept me reading and interested, great domestic thriller. I thought if anything the writing was a tad choppy but it made sense considering the type of story. I don’t know how to feel about the ending…. There’s a part of me that liked it, but I definitely wanted a lot more. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the free preview in exchange for an honest review. As always, Lapena writes a great story, and if you enjoy her other books you’ll like this too!

I knew what to expect from a Shari Lapena book and this one delivered! Fast moving, captivating and suspense FULL! Have to confess I found it a little bit too creepy for me and leaning a bit too much towards unbelievable and I debated finishing it but...I was too caught up in wanting to know how everything would be wrapped up in the end. If you want a fast moving ride that does not make you feel good about people - this is the read for you! 3.5

Thank you to NetGalley, and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book! This is one of my favourite authors, so I was excited to read this! The author never disappoints! It was a well-written, well paced mystery that kept me guessing. The story is about a 9 year old girl named Avery Wooler, who suddenly disappears after going home from school alone. We follow the story through the eyes of her father, a doctor named William who gets angry with Avery and her behaviour, and also is considered a suspect in her disappearance. We also see the perspective of her mother Erin, who always comes to Avery’s defence (we learn that Avery is a difficult child with behavioural issues), and also Avery’s older brother Michael, who blames himself for what has happened since he’s supposed to walk Avery home. We also meet other key characters, like the detectives assigned to the case, as well as local neighbours like Nora Blanchard (and we see how she’s connected to this whole story…no spoilers here!)…as well as Nora’s son Ryan (who becomes a suspect),and Nora’s husband Al. We meet various other. Neighbours, whose son’s are possible suspects, including a neighbour who gives an anonymous tip to the police. We learn that “everyone here is lying”…and that’s an understatement. There are secrets, marriage problems , infidelity, and so many lies….many of them coming from the one person you wouldn’t expect! There’s a satisfying, and truly messed up revelation that gives the story that great twist I always want in a mystery. This book was a very solid 4.5…I’d have given it 5, but I have to say that as much as I loved where the end was leading, it didn’t go far enough for my liking, and ended a bit more abruptly than I would have liked. But, all that being said, I will always read this author’s books, and this is another hit in my opinion.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

A brilliantly written neighborhood thriller. If you love page turners you won't be disappointed! I couldn't put it down and found my eyes trying to betray me, looking down as I read.

None of the characters in this story can be trusted. You learn a lot about each character and you'll find you get sucked in quickly, trying to guess who dun it.

I liked the multiple POVs and if you liked Verity by Colleen Hoover then I think you'd like this book to.

Fun fact, Shari Lapena is a Canadian author! 🇨🇦 🍁
