What can I say.. everyone really was lying.
This story follows the disappearance of 9 year old Avery Wooler, while her family and the families in the surrounding neighbourhood work with the police to try to track her down. As you go along, you discover that each of the families involved all has a stake in the game in one way or another. But who took Avery? At one point on another I think I suspected every different character in this book!
The only slightly negative thing I will say is that I wish the author held out on where Avery really was for a bit longer!
interesting story, only complaint is that the ending was a little rushed. i liked all the different characters/motivations
Lapena is one of my go-to suspense authors, and this, too, does not disappoint. I was intrigued from the beginning and read it over one day because I needed to find out why everyone was lying! And lie they do! Great mystery, suspenseful, and a twisty ending.
I received the ARC of Everyone Here Is Lying by Shari Lapena from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. #sharilapena #everyonehereislying
I Have just finished reading Everyone Here is Lying, my first book by Author Shari Lapena.
I have had several books on my want to read list by this Author for quite some time, but just never gotten around to read them.
Wow – Did I enjoy this book, and will be reading more works by this author very soon.
The story starts us off with William Wooler, who is a very popular doctor, having an affair with a co-worker.
He and his wife have a challenging life at home with two children. Their daughter Avery is very difficult with some disabilities.
Avery goes missing after coming home from school.
The story from this point just does not stop with page after page of events.
I really could not put this book down, and have already referred it to many friends.
Thank You to NetGalley, Author Shari Lapena, and Penguin Random House Canada/Doubleday Canada for my advanced copy to read and review.

Wowwww another one that Shari Lapena has totally nailed. What a ride!
The premise of Everyone Here is Lying is fantastic - a missing child, panic, and numerous plausible suspects. Throughout the entire book I guarantee you think it's someone that it isn't.
Definitely some fantastic twists, and a must read if you are a thriller lover.
Love this style of writing where you are in everyone’s head. The constant change in storyteller really kept me engaged and turning the page wondering what the next person was thinking and their part in the plot.
Would have liked to see a bit more in character development but really enjoyed how the story came together.
Overall a great read!
The title tells the whole story, trust no one and believe nothing. When a young child goes missing the family's life is torn apart but so are many others, especially when neighbor turns against neighbor. Nine year old Avery goes missing one afternoon after school and everyone is a suspect but when some truths begins to come out the police aren't sure who to believe.
I got caught up in this story right away and thought I knew where it was headed but never guessed until the conclusion.
This book gets going right away, that is a big plus. One of the aspects I found very interesting was that the missing little girl isn’t exactly likeable. Most missing kid books, the child is an angel but not in this one. As the secrets are slowing revealed, almost everyone has something to hide. There’s definitely some people thrown in there I did not see coming! And slowly everyone becomes more unhinged as fingers get pointed at one another. There isn’t really a character to root for, that may be its biggest flaw. I wasn’t on anyone’s side really. But that didn’t stop me from enjoying the book overall.
If you like a good domestic thriller with neighbours who all have secrets, plenty of suspects & a surprise twist, this is a good beach/summer read.
I was hooked on this book from the start and couldn’t get through it fast enough. The plot kept me guessing what was going to happen next. The father was a wholly unlikeable character for me and his decision left me disliking him more and more as the book went on. I was guessing the whole way through. I think the ending was abrupt and left me wondering “what happens next”.
Thank-you NetGalley for the ARC.
A sad take about telling untruths and all their implications. First, a ‘damaged’ nine yer old child goes missing, nd the truths and lies start unfolding. No one who knows the girl emerges unscathed. It is well written, and tells a sad tale which 8n itself is plausible. What is not plausible is the dialogue and the vocabulary and the thought processes emanating rom the nine-year old girl. These elements all acted as a string deterrent to me.
Thank you to DoubleDay Canada and NetGalley for this Arc. I discovered Shari Lapena's books last year and now she is my autobuy author.
This was a great book, lots of interesting characters and the premise gets more interesting as you discover everyone who is involved.
This is easily in my top 5 books for the year.
Thank you again!
Another Shari Lapena read... and so well done. My toes are still hurting from standing on them for so long with all of the plot twists.
I personally found this book difficult to read, through no fault with the author, as it deals with a missing child. While this storyline used to be one of my favourites, I am learning that I find the subject much harder now that I myself am a mother. That said, I found the mother, Erin, to have a realistic reaction to the story as it unfolded and could connect with her and this brought the story into much more vivid detail than expected.
Lapena writes this story from multiple points of view, and each one is different enough from another that you don't need to be told when we are switching perspective. This is such a huge talent and I was rather impressed. While I could see some of the twists and turns coming, several truly took me by surprise and overall it was a heart pounding story that kept me turning pages long after my bedtime. I would love to say more and chat about the book, but I don't want to accidentally spoil anything so I will end the review here, but if you have read it I would love to hear your thoughts as well.
Everyone Here Is Lying - Shari Lapena
William Wooler has dug himself into a hole full of lies. From the outside, it looks like he is the stereotypical family man, but behind closed doors, there's a man with a temper who is having an affair.
When nine year old Avery is reported missing, William hides the fact that he saw her earlier at the house when he was supposed to be at work, and she was supposed to be at school. He does all he can to hide the truth about his temper and about the fight they had. He knows he had nothing to do with her going missing, but the truth of his situation will leave him in the hotspot.
As more people come forward with tips, it's hard to decipher who is lying and who is telling the truth. With the clock ticking, the police know that the more time that passes by, the less likely they are to find Avery Wooler and who took her.
I don't think I've come across a Shari Lapena book that I haven't enjoyed. She always sneaks in the best twists that leave you thinking "wait, what???". This book gave me Gone Girl vibes and had me pushing to find out what actually happened to not so innocent little Avery. This book comes out July 20th and I definitely recommend grabbing yourself a copy!
⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Thank you to Netgalley for granting me this ARC for an honest review.
I loved this book, Shari Lapena does not disappoint. This was well written and very suspenseful. I do not like to give spoilers but I will say that this book had me guessing to the end when the protagonist was revealed. And the ending!!! I wanted the story to continue but it leaves you hanging, letting the reader use their imagination as to what happens. I will be giving this 5 stars and recommending this book to all my fellow readers.
Okay, so I was going to give this book 4.5/5 because it was soo good! The book was written at a very beautiful pace, the plot! Omg the plot; it was everything, the plot had me gasping and sitting here with my jaw dropped!
But I am giving this book 4/5 because even after all those great things I just described, we were left with a HUGEE cliffhanger!! So I am hoping that maybe there will be another book or something because with that cliffhanger if not, it would be upsetting.
Thank you netgalley and publishers for the uncorrected version to review!

In a world where everyone is lying, who can you really trust? Everyone in the town of Stanhope has a secret, William Wooler is having an affair with neighbour Nora. After Nora abruptly ends their affair, William returns home to find his daughter Avery home when she's not supposed to. Avery, known to everyone as a "difficult child" gives her father attitude in response to her being home, William who finds himself crumbling lashes out and strikes her to the ground. After apologizing and begging her to secrecy, he leaves, unknown to him that hours later Avery would be reporting missing.
What a wild ride! Lapena is a genius at writing a suspenseful thriller, and what better way than introducing us to a neighbourhood where everyone gossips. This book had me hooked from the start, after Avery goes missing it doesn't take long before the whole street starts talking, and even sooner, do some of them start to become a suspect (including Nora's son). Without spoiling too much, I thought that what truly happened regarding Avery's disappearance was unique, and shocking.
Don't even get me started on the ending, it was probably my favourite thing about the entire book. After everything is seemingly wrapped up, I loved watching everything crumble to pieces. Part of me had wished it had been longer (to see the aftermath), but here's to hoping for somewhat of a continuation!

*ARC Review*
Shari Lepena is a domestic thriller genius. I have always enjoyed every book she’s written; this one is no different.
A gripping domestic thriller where we follow a family falling apart all while their 9 year old daughter/sister is missing, presumably kidnapped.
Avery was always a difficult child. constantly mouthing off, getting into trouble. One day she is sent home from school early, she ran into her father in the kitchen.. this interaction ended in a strike, some harsh words, and Avery taking off.
It’s now been 4 days, and Avery can not be found anywhere.
As suspicion builds not only in the household, but with the neighbours.. lies begin to come forward, and the truth begins to twist.
A solid twisty domestic read where your family and your neighbours aren’t what you really think.
I really wanted to enjoy this one but I found about halfway through that I just no longer cared about what happened. The characters needed more depth.
4 Stars!
I read through this book very quickly, it was addictive and fast paced!
I had recently taken a break from thrillers, as I found them to be repetitive when I would read them back to back.
I decided to ease my way back in with this book, I must admit, I was a little hesitant as I have read a lot of missing person thrillers, but I was pleasantly surprised.
The book is told from a dozen of perspectives, which I really enjoyed and have never seen done before. It really allows you to see the situation unfolding from different perspectives, without going through the events multiple times.
There were a lot of characters, which I was a little worried about at the start. But I found the author did a good job of differentiating them, I did not have a hard time keeping up with the different families and their individual members.
There were a few twists within the book, that I did not see coming, which is always a big plus when reading thrillers.
I definitely recommend this book to fellow thriller loves, but especially to those that have found themselves taking a break from thrillers. This will be a good one to ease you back in!
I really enjoyed the different characters and their traits and the overall writing style.
I have already read one book from this author and I will be keeping my eye out for more!
Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for the ARC!
