Shari Lapena has created another crafty story of family intrigue, leaving you wondering which characters are the most nefarious. Obviously, from the title, we know that several people have things they want to conceal, but how relevant are these lies to the the missing girl's disappearance? Avery is a challenging girl who makes it difficult to have empathy for, leaving the reader to wonder if someone has done her harm because of her actions, if she has created the scenario herself, or if she really is innocent of the danger she finds herself in. Finger-pointing in several directions, the story wraps up well, with no one really getting away with anything, despite the lies they all tell.
Another smash book from Shari, one of my favourite authors. I loved the twists and turns that just kept coming. I love a book with some crazy characters and this did not disappoint!
Where has Avery gone? After William (her father) hits her one afternoon she goes missing.
The town of Stanhope if flung into this mystery. Where has little Avery gone ? Is she still alive? Can they find her before it's too late?
So many neighbors in this town and so many secrets they are hiding. What is really going on in this town?
You will be rushing through the pages trying to figure out what is going on. With an ending I didn't see coming. Although I admit it was abrupt but the more I think on it the more my imagination runs wild.
Thanks to netgalley and penguin random house publishing for this absolute treat of an ARC!
A solid 4 stars.
I really enjoyed this one!
I thought it was very well paced and left you guessing about what could have happened to Avery. It had an interesting cast if characters but it was easy enough to tell all the characters apart.
I really enjoyed the writing style and short chapters, I loved the omniscient third person narrator as it helped us dive into the characters without it being in too many POVs.
It lost a star because I felt the main twist was rather unrealistic and a bit of a let down (and certain big leads were explained away in a rushed manner late in the book). I also felt like it wasn't as fleshed out as it could have been due to the amount of characters/side plot issues. Nevertheless, it was still a fun quick read.
I look forward to reading more Shari Lapena in the future!

It’s worrisome how fascinated I am by reading about lives that unravel in close proximity!
I seem to be held captive by how neighbours’ lives intersect, how they witness much of what goes on yet feel the need to keep a distance out of courtesy. Lapena seems to have honed in on my obsession and splits open the Stanhope neighbourhood to reveal that it’s no different than any other suburban neighbourhood - there are secrets on every street.
I consider Lapena the master of the unputdownable page-turner because she is always good at finding empathy at the center of her suspense while managing to orchestrate twists and revelations that have my jaw dropping! Her method of blending the missing child plotline with the adulterous lives of the neighbours contrasts well even before Lapena adds a generous dose of manipulation. This all works really well against the seemingly sleepy suburban life portrayed in this novel. In fact, it’s the contrast of the high-stakes missing person case against the carefully curated upper-income neighbourhood that kept me glued to the pages….especially when neurodivergent characters are added into the mix!
If the walls of the homes in the Stanhope neighbourhood could talk, you’d be aware of the backbiting, hypocrisy, mamma drama, and gossiping. You’d be shocked at how quickly they turn on each other. You’d also be privy to the secrets and the subtle side eyes as neighbours give each other as they walk by. BUT nothing will prepare you for the truth. You’ll never guess who took Avery Wooler.
If you decide to pick up this book and visit the neighbourhood, be forewarned: William Wooler is not the only one attempting to pull the wool over everyone’s eyes!
This psychological suspense with a neighbourhood setting is definitely worth reading.
I was generously gifted this copy by Penguin Random House Canada, Doubleday Canada and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
My firs comment is the grammar. I keep going back to Lapena books but I swear her grammar is getting worse and worse. Short, incomplete sentences. Lots of sentences starting with but or and, which is something I was always taught not to do. Just not for those of us who appreciate good grammar.
The story itself was fast paced and interesting enough. Too many character perspectives however, which was somewhat unnecessary.
Doctor William Wooler comes home early from his affair after his mistress broke it off with him to find his nine year old daughter home early from school. She shouldn’t be home, and shouldn’t be home alone, and he looses his temper with her. That night, when it’s revealed she’s missing, the police begin the search. Did William hurt his daughter, or did someone else have the opportunity to do so?
Everyone Here is Lying will have you hooked from the beginning to the surprise ending.
The community of Stanhope is a place that sounds like a great place to live and raise a family.
Then you meet some of the not so nice characters and indeed most of them are lying.
Secret after secret and 9 year old Avery is missing . Avery has her own secrets and demons.
Who can you believe , who is the hiding the most and where is Avery
The world will pause as you race to find out .
Shari Lapena always holds your attention from the first to last page and Everyone Here is Lying is no exception.
Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada, Doubleday Canada for a page turning read that will keep you reading to the final page.
Thank you, NetGalley for the ARC. This is an unsettling soap opera in the suburbs. It pulled my heartstrings as a mom too. Some characters are awful, and some are nice and do bad things. The odd feeling is that the characters could be our neighbours! Each of Shari's stories is digested slowly, savour each one.
Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada, Shari Lapena and Netgalley for an ARC copy of this book.
Shari Lapena is an author I can always count on for a fun thriller. You kind of know what you are going to get with her, but I appreciate that. This book was nothing different. It was a quick, easy to read thriller. It never got to serious, but I did like the twists and turns. The setting is a neighbourhood and I always like thrillers based in neighbourhoods. My big gripe with this book was the main character, Avery who is 9 years old. Some of the thoughts and ideas she had just seemed way off base for what I know of 9 year olds. I don’t think Lapena did a good enough job setting it up for her characters actions to make sense.
Overall, this was a good thriller and if you like Shari Lapena books you will definitely enjoy this one too.
Who do you trust when everyone is lying? I loved this story and could not put the book down until I found out how it ended ( I read it in one sitting!)
Two families start to unravel and all their secrets exposed when a little girl goes missing.
While this wasn't my favourite from Shari it was really good! It was fast paced, and quite twisty.
I loved all of the secrets along the way and the ending was great!

I've read all of Shari Lapena's books and even though this one isn't my favourite by her I still liked it.
This book grabbed my attention immediately. There are so many POV's but it was easy to keep track of and I never felt confused. None of the characters were likeable but I love Shari's writing style and I think if you enjoy her books you'll like this one too.
This book started out as a real page-turner for me as I really wanted to see if I could figure out which character(s) were the most untrustworthy, but then things got a little too “everybody” is lying and I started to lose interest. There were a few good twists, but I found the ending went on a little longer than needed. Overall, a pretty good quick-read thriller.
💕You might like this book if:
🔹 you like domestic suspenses that explore the ripple effects of a person’s actions on their family, friends, community
🔹 you like lots of untrustworthy characters
I have been a fan of Shari Lapena for a long time and I was so excited to have the opportunity to read this ahead of its release. Thanks to Netgalley and penguin for giving me this opportunity in exchange for an honest review.
This book is compulsively readable. Shari has always written books about families, but never one about a child abduction, so I was a bit hesitant when stepping into the book.
The book follows a group of families that live on the same street. Some of them are having affairs, some of them wish they were, and some of them really don’t like their neighbours. Tragedy strikes when a nine year old girl goes missing after school, but who did it? This street of people who are constantly lying to protect themselves and others makes the police’s job difficult and will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
I really love how abrupt the ending was. It leaves a lot of loose ends but feels totally appropriate for the story. The characters were all super unlikable, baring a few who didn’t get much page time, which made the book really interesting.
Shari is autoread for me and she always will be. I really enjoyed this book.
Shari Lapena always knows how to write a book the pulls you in from the very first pages.
Great book with an even better ending thst tells it all...or does it.
I sped through this book couldn't turn the pages fast enough. Loved it.
Thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an early release of this book.
3.5 stars - I’m so sad to tell you this was my worst Shari Lapena book.
Don’t get me wrong, Shari Lapena is my absolutely favorite author and I read and will continue to read all of her books, but this just wasn’t for me.
My main problem was all the characters were just so unlovable, and despicable. I just couldn’t find sympathy or care for the story. What save this a bit for me was that this was a pretty quick read with different POVs so it did mange to keep my attention, but I just couldn’t get passed hating all the characters and not caring what happened to them. Hopefully her next one is much better, as she usually is the queen of domestic suspense.
I absolutely loved this book - which isn't a suprise since I've loved everything else Shari Lapena has written.
I rated this title 5 out of 5 stars.
The story follows William Wooler, a smilingly perfect family man. But William had been having an affair which just ended this afternoon at a motel up the road. When he returns home, devastated and angry, he find his difficult nine-year-old daughter, Avery, unexpectedly home from school early, William loses his temper.
Hours later, Avery's family has declared her missing.
Suddenly William isn't the only one on his street who's hiding a lie. As witnesses come forward with information that may or may not be true, Avery's neighbors become increasingly unhinged.
I am no stranger to Shari's books and have loved them all! This was told in such a clever and twisted way, it kept me guessing until the very end. The characters in her books are always ones we LOVE and we hate at the same time. Fantastic read, I loved this book so much! 5 VERY BRIGHT STARS!
I think this is the Author’s BEST BOOK YET and I love her books. Deserves way more stars! I read it in 2 sittings because it was impossible to put down. I give Erin the highest praise. She tries her best for Avery. So, what happened to Avery? You need to read the book. An explosive ending. I highly recommend it. Thanks to NetGalley, Penguin Random House and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.

William and Nora met at work and have been having an affair… until the day that Nora decides to end it once and for all. Coincidentally, William’s 9 year old daughter goes missing that very same day. The signs all point to William… don’t they?? Where is Avery???
Shari Lapena is one of my absolute favourite authors, and I am so honoured to have received this ARC! I was very excited to read this one, as I loved every single other of her books 💕💕💕
I read this book right through in one sitting because I just couldn’t put it down!! I was absolutely hooked and entranced right from the very beginning.
This book drove me crazy in the best way possible!! I just couldn’t see where the book was going to go! 🤪 Did someone kill Avery?? Did she just leave to get away from her father?? Who is this older “boyfriend” character??
Every single one of the characters (except brother Michael) were absolutely terrible, but I think that was done on purpose to confuse us 🤣 I did not like or relate to a single one of these characters.
I had a baaaaaad feeling throughout most of the book that the “twist” was going to be my least favourite twist ever…. and it was 😭😭 As soon as I see that it’s this specific twist, it makes me not even interested in the book anymore; kind of like I wasted my time.
I’m giving it 3 stars because I love Shari Lapena but this was definitely not my favourite of hers.
This is a very good psychological thriller that kept me on edge from the beginning. Good suspense in a neighborhood that starts with an affair and a missing girl.
Thanks to the author and Penguin Random House Canada for this ARC.
