I'm actually a fan of Shari Lapena's books, when I got back into reading I really enjoyed her fast, easy flowing books like A Couple Next Door and The End Of Her. I read all of her new release books hopefully but sorry to say it's been a while since one has really hit the spot for me.

Everyone Here Is Lying is a surburban noir, every parent's worse nightmare, a missing child.

Nine-year-old Avery's disappearance places the spotlight and the strain firmly on the neighbourhood. Affairs, secrets, lies, rumours, unhappy marriages all there waiting to be uncovered.

There are plenty of characters, I'd recommend making a list of who's who and their relationships.

It's cleverly structured with a lot of neighbourhood strife and marital tensions in the foreground while the hunt for the missing child ticks along. Everyone's got an opinion, and most have got secrets or grudges.

Hardcore Shari Lapena fans will no doubt love it, but I found it a bit slow and circuitous. There are several clever reveals and surprises providing notable peaks in tension in what was otherwise rather mild.

Thanks @netgalley for read number 44 of 2023. I love @sharilapena’s books, and this one was no exception. I wondered if it was a bit repetitive at first, but then there were so many twists and turns. I did not expect exactly what happened. The only thing is that I really like a neat ending that wraps everything up, and I felt as though I needed a little bit more on some storylines. A ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read in my books. I will always read @sharilapena’s novels. #avivaandfriendsrecos #bookstagram

Thank you, Penguin Random House Canada and Netgalley, for the advanced reading copy of this book.

Two families, interwoven by the disappearance of a troubled little girl.
As the story evolves, the families unravel. An affair is exposed. False accusations and arrests are made. But where is Avery? What happened that fateful afternoon.

Shari Lapena has done it again. Another masterfully written novel. Avery is a complex, manipulative character. I enjoyed how the story unfolded and loved thd ending!

Firstly, I'd like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for providing me a copy of this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I'm not the first to say it, and I know I won't be the last, but Shari Lapena is the queen of the suburban thriller.

Dr. William Wooler just wants time by himself after his affair comes to an abrupt end, but he gets home to find his defiant daughter sent home from school early. When nine-year-old Avery Wooler goes missing after an argument with her father, distrust and suspicion runs rampant through the small town of Stanhope. The safe-as-houses neighbourhood quickly loses it's glimmering façade as affairs are uncovered, past crimes come to the surface, and everyone up and down the street is a suspect.

Shari Lapena has a real talent for writing characters that you love, even if you don't really like them all that much. The slow burn investigation keeps you on the edge of your seat, and just when you think you've figured it out, a new turn in the road appears.

This was unputdownable! Who doesn’t love a couple of dysfunctional families?! This might be Shari’s best book yet. I would absolutely recommend!

LOVED this thriller. Tightly written page-turner about a little girl gone missing on a seemingly quiet street. Nothing is like you think it is. Read it. Inhale it.

Avery Wooler is missing. Has she been kidnapped? Killed? In a small town where everyone knows everyone else's business haw can a nine year old girl go missing? With every character introduced another suspicion arises. Everyone seems to have a motive but who did it? With characters you love to hate Shari Lapena weaves a tale of suspense that still leaves you questioning, even after the book ends. Great story telling with great characters.
