Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read the ARC (Advance Reader Copy) of Asking for a Friend by Kerry Clare.
It was stated that it was for fans of Firefly Lane you would like this one. I have never read Firefly Lane but I have watched the series on TV. It was similar in many ways. It was about life and friendship. I did like it when it shared the ups and downs of real life issues. Another plus is that it is Canadian.
I would recommend this to those who like to read about friendships that last decades! I rated this book as 4 out of 5 stars.

This is an epic novel that spans a decades long friendship between two women and their ups and downs, marriages, and children.

I liked it, I like to rawness of a long friendship and I sure as heck like reading about it.

But perhaps because I am not a mother I felt a bit of a disconnect. I did understand the point of friendships changing when someone becomes a mother.

Clare is a great writer, I always enjoy her stories.

Such a good book. Girl meets girl and a wonderful enduring friendship is born. We get to travel along with Clara and Jess as they discover life meet their partners and maybe have families.
I got through this quickly it was so good. Definitely pick it up and give it a try. You will not be disappointed.
I find that this book is different from others I’ve read because of its honesty. Nobody covers anything up. They just put it all out there.
My first read by Kerry Clare but it won’t be my last!

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of Asking For A Friend by Kerry Clare, published by Penguin Random House Canada
I started off not knowing if I liked the story, the way it was written, I ended up loving it and wasn't ready for it to end.
At the beginning, as I read, I felt the story only touched or skimmed the surface of these2 main characters, but as I continued to read, I realized I liked this writing style and the author allowed the reader to fill-in the blanks and certain ideas or thoughts didnt need to be verbalized.
I really enjoyed this story of 2 lifelong friends, how their relationship evolves as they move through their stages of life. It reminded of friends I have that I don't see for long periods of time but we can catch up like no time has passed.
Jess and Clara are the main characters, 2 very different individuals, we watch their relationship develop as they navigate through life, sometimes together, sometimes apart.

The author depicts the true meaning of friendship, friends "saving" each other, having that shoulder to lean on.

This is the first book I've read by this author, I would recommend this as a great summertime read, or anytime and would read more by this author.

Long-standing female friendships are a thing of beauty, but this one was… weird… It felt a little like two women trying to out-selfish each other, taking turns judging and holding grudges while still professing undying devotion to each other over the course of decades.

Other books about friendship often leave me thinking that having the characters as friends would be awesome, but in this case I’m quite ok to not know these women in real life. It was an interesting read but I’m not sad to be done it. (I read this ARC via NetGalley)

Kerry Clare is a talented Toronto-based writer. Her soon-to-be-released novel, Asking for a Friend, takes the reader on an emotional journey through the complexities of female friendship. Spanning two decades, the story delves into the highs and lows of Jess and Clara's enduring bond, from their youthful adventures to the challenges of adulthood. Clare masterfully captures the essence of growing up, growing apart, and finding our way back to those who truly matter. Her writing style is engaging and captivating. The depth of the story surprised me, touching on important topics such as women's rights, abortion, pregnancy, loss, heartbreak, the bonds that unite us and the bonds that slip away.

I highly recommend picking up Asking for a Friend when it hits bookshelves on September 25th. It is bound to evoke nostalgia and leave you pondering the bonds that define your own life. Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada, Doubleday Canada, Net Galley, and Kerry Clare for this gripping and insightful ARC.

Asking for a Friend is a cozy read chronicling the lives and friendship of Jess and Clara. I thought the characters were very realistic, and their dynamic and the issues that they faced both together and alone were well-done.

I give it 4 stars, but it would have been 5 if the climax was a little more suspenseful.

Asking for a Friend is a nostalgic look at women's friendships for millennials. This book brought me back to university roommates, navigating the world while leaving friends behind, and ultimately understanding motherhood through lasting female friendships. Clare writes a poignant novel full of laughs and tears, with lots of moments the reader will share with Jess and Clara. It's like a Firefly Lane for those of us who came of age in the late 90s and discovered motherhood in the last decade.

A beautifully written book about friendship. The love. The ups and down's that happen as each others lives grow into relationships, marriage, families.
So much more to this book than what I was expecting. Was very enjoyable.

Thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an early release of this book.

I admit, I judged this one by its cover a little bit. I thought it was going to be light and summery, but it had so much more depth than that!

Asking for a Friend follows Jess and Clara's friendship over the course of two decades, from their chance encounter in university well into adulthood (and motherhood). Their friendship must endure many hardships, lengthy separations, and the new people who come into their lives. Do they have what it takes to go the distance?

I enjoyed this one! The writing style really worked for me, and I stayed engaged throughout (not to mention stayed up late to finish it!). Clare did a great job of creating very different characters with enough similarities to keep their bond believable. There was a much larger focus on motherhood than I expected, and it touched on some heavy subjects. I liked her nod to Summer Sisters, one of my favourite female friendship stories!

If you enjoy stories of female friendships, or the challenges of motherhood, please read this one when it comes out on September 5th.

Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada, Doubleday Canada, Net Galley and Kerry Clare for the ARC of this book.
