The Sweetest Revenge by Lizzy Dent didn't disappoint. I loved everything about it. Thank to you NetGalley for the ARC!
This is the best Lizzy Dent book I've read so far! I liked Amy as a main character and thought it was interesting that it was set around the TV production world. I thought the romance was sweet and felt genuine.
This was my third Lizzy Dent book, and I am not very impressed. I selected this one because her other two books have been easy 4 star reads for me, but this one just fell short.
Ok, so in romantic comedies what I'm looking for more are engaging and charming characters that I want to follow and root for. Because we all know more or less how the story is gonna go. I did like the little that we saw of Jake even if he was the generic love interest. But I didn't like Amy. She was so naive and childish. Yes, what happened was embarassing but I felt her reaction was too much; she let it dictate her entire life for a really long time. And when she starts to pick herself up, she isn't that good of a person. She is really self-centered and continues on being naive.
The plot is cute enough. But by the end it's a forgettable book.
Thank you Netgalley, author, and publisher for the ARC.
Amy Duffy, a TV show development executive, is preparing for her cousin Ruth's wedding when her boyfriend Chris reveals his secret to her. She ends up in a bar after a video of her embarrassing moment is shared online. She flees to London, where she finds a job on a reality show called "Fantasy Island." However, her life is shattered when a merger is announced and her ex-boyfriend Chris is introduced as the new interim boss. Amy finds a new neighbor, Jake Jones, who is a writer who was eliminated in a contest and is looking for a place to live anonymously. They have a friendship that helps each move forward together, which is always the sweetest revenge. Lizzy Dent's charming rom-com "The Setup" is a delightful read.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for this advanced copy
A beautifully written romance that captures the magic of falling in love. The main characters have great chemistry, and their witty banter keeps the story light and fun. The plot is engaging, with just the right mix of drama and humor. This book is a warm hug for the heart—perfect for a cozy afternoon read!
This was a good ready. It will not be something I re-read or consider as one of the best books I read this year but I enjoyed it enough.
I was drawn to this book by the fun and cute cover but unfortunately it was a miss for me. My main complaint was with female main character Amy. She just wasn't likable after her "revenge" event at the beginning of the book. Drunk or not, that's just not something I can justify. She never did redeem herself for me so I had a hard time rooting for her happiness.
Thank you to NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam for providing me a digital reviewer copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.
Lizzy dents writing is so funny and cute. I loved this and I found it to be so relaable. I loved it!
I was drawn to this with how fun and bright the cover is!
I was disappointed with this book and almost DNF-ed a few times. I've heard such great things about her other books and this just did not live up to my expectations. I wish the characters had more growth and were more likeable.
was a really sweet and cute book so glad that I read it. Another really great book by Lizzy Dent, love all her other books that I have read
Thanks to Netgalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam for the E-Arc. I know Im late to the party but I just want to say that this book was life. Im also currently packing to leave to London to find Jake because he is real right....I love how both Amy and Jake were on a healing journey and how it was so relatable. I absolutely loved this book I loved Amy's family and her Maggie and everyone else except for Chris of course.
Amy, a TV producer has to leave NYC after a video of her embarrassing herself gets around. After starting over in London she meets Jake, a reality TV star who also goes viral after an embarrassing video. When Chris, the ex who ruined her life reappears in London, Amy begins working with Jake in attempt to get revenge and prove her worth. While the premise seemed like it would be silly it actually turned out to be a great read with depth and character development. I loved Amy and Jake and really enjoyed London (and Wales) as the setting!
I really enjoyed the characters (I loved Maggie's energy) and the storyline was really cute but for some reason, it just fell a bit flat for me. Nothing really stood out one way or another, good or bad.
I love a good "forbidden romance" but was hoping for a bit more spice or pizazz in the romance department.
This was not what I was expecting, but still a good read. Although I really liked the writing, I felt myself struggling a little to connect with the characters and feel the chemistry between the MCs. Which was a bit disappointing, but not enough to make me stop reading.
Overall, I still enjoyed this book and the premise and plot were fun and engaging enough to keep pulling me in.
I love this book and can't wait to read more of Dent. She's the smoothest writer and draws you in with every story. I love how past and present collide.
This was a fun read, and Lizzy Dent always creates really vibrant characters that leap off the page, but my goodness the cringe factor in this was too much to bear at times! It is a simple story, does exactly what it says on the tin - but I couldn't get over the cringe!
I really enjoyed aspects of the main characters, Workplace romances are really hit or miss from me - and getting your own back on an ex is always really petty, but Dent did those aspects really well!
If you are someone who enjoys a cringe when you are reading - either with or at the characters - this one is for you.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.
Since I swooned over “The Summer Job”, Dent has become an author on my radar.
There’s romance in this one but there’s also the past coming back to you (quite literally), family relationships and inner workings of working in TV.
This was a slower paced romance than I thought but it was pretty sweet in the end.
A fun book about a scorned women with a second chance of love and a side of revenge. The banter was light hearted and laugh out loud funny. Amy heads to London for a fresh start to escape an embarrassing past where she finds a new job and a hot new love interest. Things are looking up until a former lover shows up and becomes her boss. I loved that the book is set working for a television network. It is a fun quick summer rom com. Thank you net galley for the ARC!
This was an utterly riveting book that I literally could not put down, that kept my heart racing, kept me near tears for a good chunk of it, that had me hanging off of every word that I read, and the story just ripped my heart out but yet still had a very sweet ending.
