This one was fun quick rom com. I especially laughed out loud in the beginning as our main character Amy seeks revenge on her newly ex BF but this goes completely south and she somehow gets filmed while going viral. She high tails it from NYC to London to start over and not be remembered by viral video. While a lot of parts were fun, I didn’t believe in the very slow burn romance between Amy and Jake. The chemistry just felt off . I just didn’t enjoy it as much as other rom coms because the characters were not as relatable to me. But overall an entertaining read! Thank you Netgalley G.P. Putnam’s sons for a copy of this ARC in exchange for this review.

This book was a cute romance! I did love the characters for the most part. I do wish they would of had talked more about the relationship over all throughout the whole story. But overall it was a quick cute romance to read.

When things go bad in Amy’s life they really go bad. When a work romance spins out of control she acts out, she ends up embarrassing herself, trying to hide she takes off to London. But she’s not only running from embarrassment but from her family too. When we catch up with Amy it’s been 2 years. She hasn’t been back to New York nor has she spoken to her old contacts and coworkers. Her family is begging her to come home for her grandmother's 80th. Amy however gets the shock of her life when the guy her ex Chris walks into her new job. He’s been hired as the interim boss as two media companies merge. Amy knows this merger is opening new positions in tv development, the area she worked in before moving. She teams up with a neighbor, Jake and they begin to develop and write a series to pitch. Chris wants to be back with Amy, for his own selfish reasons. He’s hoping this will convince Amy she’s got this new role in the bag, Only Amy has made a quick trip to NYC and has reached out to old coworkers and contacts. She now knows everything that happened after she left all the things Chris did to make her seem crazy. Only this time she is ready for him. She sends an email to all of her coworkers and puts herself on blast. Chris no longer has power over her. It was such an easy story to wrapped up in. Definitely bingable! Thanks to Penguin Group Putnam and Lizzy Dent for this ARC.

Amy Duffy is developing a TV show with her boss (that maybe is also secretly her lover) when everything goes south and her retaliation goes viral. Thinking her career and life completely lost, she moves to London to hide out, and that's where we meet her two years later.

All of the fates align to give Amy a second chance to get back at her boss, a hot neighbor who has also fallen from grace, and a new project to keep her busy and revive her career.

Amy and her hot neighbor Jake have tons of chemistry and banter, and they slowly burn through the whole book. I found myself truly rooting for them to make it happen.

The romance in this one is subtle, more of an underlying, secondary movement to the main themes and plot of the novel. I could definitely see this one as a feature film.

This book was written for you if:
1. You love the jobs of 90s romcom heroines that no one in real life has
2. You love a kind of workplace situational romantic comedy
3. You were a fan of Bridesmaids or Emily in Paris

This was a sweet, fun read. I appreciated Amy and Jake's relationship having an element of friends-to-lovers but I wish we had seen more of their relationship.

The synopsis sounded so interesting and I enjoyed the book for the most part. I loved the premise but I had a hard time connecting with the characters as well as the chemistry between the MC's.

The Sweetest Revenge by Lizzy Dent was a fun British rom com. This book started in New York but quickly moved to London/Wales. The settings were interesting in themselves. The rom com was solid if somewhat predictable. Please note there was a lot of bad language in this book. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

This book was both funny and heartfelt. I loved Amy and her drama. She felt very realistic even if some of her situations were far fetched.

I really enjoyed this one. It was light, funny, and a quick read with a dash of spice. I read this in one sitting and found it super enjoyable. What more could you want?

There were times I wanted to absolutely strangle the main character, but I still found myself rooting for her all the same. I really enjoyed her character development, I felt like she had grown significantly, especially in her treatment towards her love interest.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I’m not sure how I feel about this one still. I liked it while I was reading it but I found it very forgettable. I did really like the characters and the story line.

In this fun read from Lizzy Dent, a woman's quest to rebuild her life takes an unexpected turn.

Amy Duffy faces a colossal embarrassment when her boss/boyfriend, Chris Ellis, sabotages her job and abandons her right before her cousin's wedding. In a fit of drunken frustration, Amy skips the wedding, leaves a memorable mark on Chris' car, and becomes an unwitting star of a viral video. Unable to face her family and co-workers, she escapes to London for a less glamorous job at a smaller studio.

In her new role, overseeing promos for reality TV shows, Amy begins to find her footing. When an opportunity arises to pursue her dream job, she seizes it. Enter Jake Jones, her charming new neighbour and a talented writer with his own share of embarrassing moments, including an ill-fated reality dating show appearance. Amy suggests they work together: Jake helps develop a TV show for her pitch at work.

As they co-create a detective show set in London, a slow-burn romance blossoms between Amy and Jake. However, a twist of fate introduces a new interim head of development: none other than Chris. While the plot may be predictable, Dent's humour adds a delightful touch, making this an enjoyable, entertaining and truly engrossing read. I have been a fan of Dent's writing since The Summer Job, and she has quickly become an auto-read author for me.

The Sweetest Revenge by Lizzy Dent

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and G.P. Putnam's Sons and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Blurb

Bridesmaids meets Emily in Paris —in London—in this hilarious and heartfelt story of one handsome neighbor, one no-good ex, and the summer Amy Duffy makes the comeback of her life.

Her past is a mess. But her present is about to get delicious.

Amy is more than one disastrous night of drunken revenge on her boss/ex-boyfriend’s Audi—the night that tanked her rising TV producer career and led to a hasty move to London for a fresh start. She is thirty years of awesomeness. At least, that’s what Amy tells herself every morning before trekking to her mediocre job making trailers at a failing British TV channel.

Two years later, she’s finally starting to believe it. Sparks are flying between her and Jake, her handsome new downstairs neighbor, and there’s a competition at work that just might get her career back on track while bringing her and Jake even closer. But then, in a twisted turn of fate, the ex-boyfriend who wrecked her life is hired as her new boss and past and present are about to epically, hilariously collide.

My Opinion

Lizzy Dent is one of those authors that I enjoy reading. This book was one of those that I knew I wanted to read but I have been struggling to find the time. Within chapters I was hooked, this was such a pleasure to read. Amy is trying to recover following a break up but I didn't really like the way that she treated Jake. I enjoyed this book but I really would've liked a bit more Jake and Amy.

Rating 4/5

⚠️ This book is filled with romance and lots of the F*** word and the C*** word. Like alot. But closed door romance. 🤔

Amy Duffy is a tv producer in NYC. She and her boyfriend/boss Chris are about to jump on a train. They are heading to her cousins wedding. Before boarding Chris lets her know that her shoe wasn't picked up. He even claimed it as his own but didn't choose it because it would look bad. Amy is upset and calls him out. They break up and don't go to the wedding. Amy instead gets shit faced drunk and urinates on his new Audi soft top convertible. Someone films her and the video goes viral. Amy moves to London and goes into hiding. Amy's new company hires Chris as an interim boss. Amy wants revenge. She enlists her neighbor Jake who just got famous from running away at a reality show. He's a screenwriter and they write a show.

This was a cute fun romance. I listened to it in one sitting. The narrator is one of my favorites. I really enjoy this author and I can't wait to read the rest of her books.

I struggled to connect with the main character in this story, which made it hard to really connect with the story as a whole. I had high hopes for this one but it took me awhile to finish.

I thought this one started off really strong. Amy was a likeable, quirky main character with and interesting life event and career. I also enjoyed the cat and mouse game between her and her neighbor. I felt as though the ending was rushed and lacked some emotion. This was definitely a cute read that I enjoyed!

I loved this sweet book! It was so fun to read- the characters were fun, the plot was exciting and well-paced. I loved the revenge aspects of the plot as well- they were exciting but not too outlandish. The romance was lovely and not too spicy but there’s a ton of good tension. Overall, I really enjoyed this!

Whilst a little cheesy and slow at times, The Sweetest Revenge was a heartwarming read that I ended up really enjoying.

Although not the most page turning of novels, I found that the characters were endearing, Jake in particular. A charming easy read that’s definitely worth picking up!

Amy Duffy seems to have it all: a promising career in TV development, life in NYC, and dating her attractive boss. But one disastrous day has Amy leaving her old life behind for a fresh start in London.

I enjoyed this hilarious rom-com. I loved Amy’s spunky personality and rash, in-the-moment decisions that make for an entertaining plot—the setting shifts from New York City to London with a brief trip to Wales. Lizzy Dent gives us a little glimpse into the life of the TV development world, which I found fascinating.

I recommend this book for anyone who loves a light, humorous romance story but would suggest reading the physical book over audio. I liked the narration of Amy’s voice, but when Jake’s voice was portrayed, it didn’t feel authentic. While he is supposed to be from Northern Wales, his accent sounded partly Irish but partly a terrible impersonation of an Indian accent. I was able to get used to it eventually, but not until I was well into the second half.

This was my first Lizzy Dent book, and I’m excited to dig into some of her other books soon.

Thank you, NetGalley and Putnam Books, for the ARC.
