Delicious!!! Fun and wonderful - a really good romcom. Utterly readable and delightful with characters that are so well defined and articulated.
I found myself really enjoying this book. The attraction between the main characters was sweet. I didn't quite love the third act "breakup" as I had seen it coming, but I appreciated how quickly it got resolved.
3.5/5⭐️
This is such a great summer read!
Amy has started a new life in London where she can leave the humiliating events of her past in New York. Though the move means the end of her rising TV career and a lackluster job at a failing British TV channel, she doesn’t compromise on her flat. A flat that provides her with access to a rooftop terrace she has all to herself - until her cute new neighbor moves in. Jake and Amy have a lot in common and it’s easy to see how they get along so well. But as their relationship becomes more than platonic, Amy’s ex and reason for her relocation reappears and forces her to find closure she didn’t get by running.
The Sweetest Revenge was light and engaging with really enjoyable characters and a fun storyline. I really liked the character growth for Amy and the resolution was so satisfying!

Many thanks to NetGalley and GP Putnam’s sons for an early copy of this ebook in exchange for my honest review!
Last year I absolutely loved THE SUMMER JOB by Lizzy Dent, so I was excited to read her latest book, THE SWEETEST REVENGE, early. This was a funny and sweet story about two people recovering from public humiliation and falling in love. After a drunken transgression goes viral, Amy Duffy flees Manhattan and moves to London. She leaves her job at a big TV studio for a gig cutting trailers for unscripted dating shows. One of the cast members from the Love Island-esque show her entire office is obsessed with winds up moving into the flat downstairs from Amy. Jake is a handsome moody writer and there is a undeniable connection between him and Amy. They team up to pitch a TV show and sparks fly.
I thought this was a fun premise and a very enjoyable read. I was rooting for Amy and her villainous ex was fun to hate. It didn’t quite match THE SUMMER JOB for me, but I really liked this book and will happily read more by this writer.
The Sweetest Revenge is the third offering from Lizzy Dent. After I enjoyed Dent’s first novel, The Summer Job, I was excited to read her latest novel set in the world of television production. Amy Duffy escaped to London two years ago after an embarrassing act of revenge went viral in her home city of New York. But when the ex-boyfriend that betrayed her starts working at the television company she works for, Amy decides to stop hiding and show work what she is really made of. She enlists her neighbour, writer and reality television star, Jake Jones to help write the episodes of a television programme she wants to pitch. But as they spend more time together, Amy and Jake try to deny the chemistry growing between the two of them. Can they keep their relationship professional or will they give in to temptation? Can Amy do what it takes to win her ideal job? And can she forgive herself for the one drunken mistake she made two years ago?
The novel started strong and hooked me from the first chapter. However, somewhere after the first quarter of the story, it started to fall flat. Everything - all the action - centred around the incident that happened two years ago, which didn’t allow for much depth and variety in the plot and subplots. This also made the story short. It did pick up again in the last quarter of the book with a lot of urgency and variety that, had it been placed earlier on in the novel, would have made it more satisfying and enjoyable. I found the romance between Amy and Jake quite shallow. It seemed like it was about giving into lust than anything more substantial.
I wanted to like the novel more than I did, but it seemed like there was something missing that The Summer Job had in spades. The Sweetest Revenge is not Dent’s best novel but it has its moments.
Just a lovely book!
Positives:
I was rooting for the two main characters and was drawn in by their neighbor/love interest.
I enjoyed learning about the the main character, Amy's, career and her drive to succeed.
The side character-Maggie and the families.
I enjoyed spending time reading about these characters. Jake especially was just a cute love interest.
Negatives:
Just the very last 1/4 of the novel was a bit slow for me.
This was just an enjoyable RomCom with a main character who learns to forgive herself while growing at the same time. I will recommend this one to friends for their summer reads and will read more of Lizzy Dent.
I was looking forward to reading this but it fell flat for me. The first chapter was great but then went downhill. A dual POV could have made this book a bit stronger. Thanks netgalley & the publisher for the ARC, in exchange for an honest review.
This was fun! I was in the mood for a light romance and this fit the bill. I liked both main characters and was interested in their journey. Recommended for the upcoming beach read season.
I really enjoyed reading this. Amy was so well developed, relatable and funny. The dialogue felt fresh and i loved that this took place in tv production. Not a ton of novels take place in that field. The relationship with Josh felt organic and not corny.
I’ve read all of Lizzy Dent’s books and they’re all just delightful. In this one, Amy makes some bad choices (jerk boyfriend, for one) and ends up doing something over the top hilarious and embarrassing, then spends years running away from her embarrassment, hiding away by making herself and her life small and a little sad. Then, of course, something happens that changes everything. She meets a new, fabulous guy; but more importantly she has a chance to shine at work again and suddenly we get to see the real Amy and what a powerhouse she is. I loved her story, and I especially loved her family and how they helped her see the funny side in her moment of shame. The parallels between Amy and Jake were well-done,, and it was so sweet to watch them fall in love while working together.
Thank you so much for this ARC!
What a sweet and enjoyable read! This is my second book by Lizzy Dent and I definitely preferred this one over The Summer Job. (REALLY looking forward to her next book - set in Italy!)
Two lovely and well developed characters each coping from some sort of public humiliation. I cheered for them both the whole time. They were a perfect fit for each other as friends, working partners and more. Learning about the TV and production industry in this book was really fun!
Definitely recommend especially if you are in need of a lighthearted read in which the good guy wins in the end!
I loved this book and the story it told. I especially liked Amy's response to her boss/ex-boyfriend's deceit It did cause her shame and she had to leave her job,but maybe it was worth it. She moved to England to start over and met Jake who was her new neighbor.. Everything was going well until the ex-boyfriend showed up in England and became her new boss. The timing could not have been worse because Amy was going for a promotion and he had control over her once again. He kept making veiled threats about exposing the video depicting her revenge against him and his car. These threats caused her to once again regret what she did. It is a cautionary tale about camera cell phones and the internet. What would have been an act seen by a few people, was now seen by millions. Amy finally makes a decision about this secret she has kept from Jake and in the end her ex-boyfriend is out of her life for good. I recommend this book with the warning some language may be offensive. It really wasn't needed to make a point in the novel.
This book started slow for me but then picked up. I like a book with good banter and life lessons. I really enjoyed The Summer Job by this author. Unfortunately this one wasn’t as good in my opinion.
Book: The Sweetest Revenge

Review: This one took me a little bit to get into, but once I was in it, I was hooked! (It’s one of the best books I’ve read this year so far.) Amy is currently living in London making trailers for a British TV channel and while that isn’t a bad life, we soon learn that she’s there because she’s trying to escape a disastrous embarrassing viral moment from her past. She soon has the opportunity to pursue the job she really wants (and is good at) and finds her attractive new downstairs neighbor to be a very good creative partner, but before she can get too excited about her future, her past comes back to present day and she’s forced to face it. The characters are flawed but likable (well, except for the ex-boyfriend, of course), the flirting and banter between Amy and Jake is dreamy, and the book presents a good balance of work, family, dating, and real-life concerns. There are a lot of pop culture references and I know nothing about the entertainment world, but it’s a well-written story with characters I was cheering for and just enough drama.
*I was given a version of this book for free in exchange for an honest book review. (Thanks @NetGalley and @PutnamBooks!) The book will be released on 25 July 2023.
I adore Lizzy Dent and was so excited to see a new title from her! This book started so strong for me but I felt a bit of a slump about 3/4 of the way through. I did push through and overall enjoy the story. The characters were fun and I really enjoyed reading their stories. Not my favorite title from this author, but I still would recommend.
The Sweetest Revenge had some great banter/funny moments, life lessons learned by the MCs, and great writing. The story had me super invested for the first quarter or so, but that kind of faded. I found some of the pacing of the story to be off, and I really had a hard time believing in Amy and Jake’s love story (these folks did not even kiss until the 96% mark.) I also felt that pretty much the entire plot of the book to be dependent on Amy’s shame and naivety, which made her difficult to root for at times. Overall, this was a 2.5 star read for me.
Huge thank you to Penguin Group and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
As an American with friends in the UK and having spent a lot of time there, I really quite enjoyed The Sweetest Revenge! I have often dreamt of leaving my life and moving to London, maybe not for the reason the main character, Amy needs to leave though. The Sweetest Revenge was a fun one to read. I LOVE British humor so I loved catching myself laughing at some of the scenes that were very British. I haven't read many books where the main character went viral for something and needed to bounce. I liked the balance of Amy as the main character. She is likeable but at times you want to yell at her and say "what are you thinking?!" every good antagonist has the balance. Going viral can never be easy especially when it's for something that may not be considered tasteful (but still hilarious). Heartbreak is hard and even two years after Amy is still learning that and I think that is very relatable. It being set in London, I love the sites and sounds the author brought to the pages. I could imagine the streets Amy is walking down and even the courtyard where her and Jake build their relationship. I loved Jake as a character. I liked that he was Welsh and not just another guy from London. He knew who he was, even when he was unsure of his next career step, he knew his values and what he wanted. I liked his pace as a leading man and his personality and playfulness grew as the book kept going.
Overall, I quite enjoyed this read, but I found myself finishing the book and wanting a bit more. I thought the beginning and the story setting was a bit fast and I wanted a bit more back story before it jumped two years. Will I read it again when it's released, absolutely!
After a night she regrets leads to a viral video of Amy that ruins her career, she runs away to London to start over. This story of moving on, forgiving yourself, and recognizing your own self-worth was hard to put down. Jake and Amy had amazing banter that helped our road-trip fly by. Highly recommend this one!

I was provided a free advance copy of this book from NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an honest review.
This was not what I was expecting, but still a good read. Although I really liked the writing, I felt myself struggling a little to connect with the characters and feel the chemistry between the MCs. Which was a bit disappointing, but not enough to make me stop reading.
Overall, I still enjoyed this book and the premise and plot were fun and engaging enough to keep pulling me in.
Thank you to the publisher for kindly providing me with an ARC via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
The title is a bit misleading; I was expecting more and the "revenge" came late. Other than that, this was an enjoyable book about Amy, who goes viral in a bad way. She runs away and starts a new life in London, but then her past comes back to haunt her.
