The Sweetest Revenge is my favorite of the three (The Summer Job is a close second!) and I read it in 2 sittings! It was so well thought out, the characters were fun, the plot was so entertaining, and the writing was great.

Trust me, you’re going to want to get your hands on a copy of this one!

Now she lives a life of monotony (go to work, pick up wine and dinner for one, go home, and repeat), until sexy—and also socially disgraced—writer, Jake Jones, moves in downstairs. The two hatch a plan to get back their dignity and move on with their lives and careers, but Amy’s ex shows up and may have the power to derail them both.

I binged through this book in a day and a half. The writing is so entertaining and I struggled to put it down. Amy is such a lovable, hot mess and I couldn’t help but viscerally feel her embarrassment and heartbreak. And Jake read like such a good, solid, respectable man. Their personalities complimented each other.

While I enjoyed the swearing and off the cuff humor, one area that was missing for me was the heat. The “sexual tension” came off more as cutesy crush rather than swoon worthy spice. The fact that it was a slow burn didn’t put me off, it was just that when there were moments of intimacy (it was completely closed door) it felt awkward and like an afterthought. Not everyone loves a spicy novel but I do, and fade-to-black romances will rarely receive a 5 star rating from me.

I would definitely recommend this one to anybody who likes a messy, yet hilarious, protagonist in a novel that remains quite clean.

This was such a fun read. I loved "watching" Amy overcome her past and learn to own the choices she made - even if they weren't her best ones. Jake and Amy's dynamic was so genuine and organic. I loved watching them grow together, share their past and current struggles, and help one another be the best version of themselves. Overall, this book made me smile and kept me entertained. The dialogue was so fun - especially if you like TV.

Amy Duffy’s NYC-based career and relationship implodes on the same disastrous day. She seeks refuge in London where she is mostly content (or at least thinks she is) with a job making TV trailers. Sure, what she is really great at is developing TV shows but Amy is scared to go back to her old life. When her company announces a merger and an opening on the development team around the same time an extremely good-looking man moves into the apartment downstairs, Amy thinks she might have some good luck coming her way…

I enjoyed this - Amy and her neighbor, Jake, have chemistry and it was great to see their relationship develop and each of them grow as individuals. Amy is not necessarily likable but I did get a kick out of how petty she is, especially when she decides to have a vendetta against a teenaged grocery clerk she thinks is judging her purchases. I am not sure that Bridesmaid meets Emily in Paris is an apt description but would recommend this to anyone looking for a slow-burn romance between two ambitious people who have been publicly humiliated and are trying to recover and achieve some professional success.

3.5 stars. I read Lizzy Dent's debut novel, and really enjoyed it. I enjoyed this one as well, but not as much.

Because the book is called 'The Sweetest Revenge', I was expecting an over the top, planned out, and detailed revenge plot, but it never came. I was hoping for a fun story about a woman getting revenge on her ex, but that wasn't this book.

The description of the book sounded so interesting, but the story fell so flat for me. It was slow going and didn't hold my interest, but the middle of the story started to improve. The ending felt rushed, and I wished that there was more development with the relationship between Amy and Jake. I liked the parts of the book where they were working on their script together, and I loved their banter. I love slow burn romances, but this one was moving at such a slow pace that it was dragging. I loved that the setting was in London, and the parts about TV shows and the behind the scenes of creating tv shows was very enjoyable.

Really funny, endearing, and refreshing. This was described as Bridesmaids meets Emily In Paris, and it certainly lived up to that comparison.

Amy was such a relatable character. We've all been there (although I hope we haven't all peed on a car😂). Jake! What a total dreamboat! He is perfection!

This was a nice breezy read from Lizzy Dent, whose other novels I have enjoyed. Amy is a woman scorned—minus a job and a boyfriend. Her boyfriend was also responsible for her job in TV ending (they worked together), and she decided to take revenge on his car and without knowing she was being filmed. Her act went viral, she wound up missing her cousin's wedding, and thus she fled to the UK to cut trailers.

She has a run in with her new and very easy on the eyes neighbor who was a contestant on some kind of reality show that seemed like a cross between Survivor and The Bachelor. She discovers he is a very talented (though no one has hired him yet) screenwriter and she convinces him to create a drama with him for her to pitch to her company. And oops, her ex-boyfriend just happens to be her new boss. Maybe this time she can finally come out on top.

Like I said, this was a nice breezy book, but I did want more. I wanted more banter with her and Jake (the neighbor), as they seem to share a love of pop culture with their Futurama and Arrested Development references. I wanted the ex to be even more over the top evil and smug.

After reading Lizzy Dent’s first two standalone novels, I would rank #TheSweetestRevenge better than #TheSetup, but not quite as good as #TheSummerJob. There was something about the last quarter of the novel that fell a bit flat. I was also expecting the tension to completely burst, but it was more akin to a sweet summer love.

The plot is interesting and the love interest was a relatively well-rounded character, but some of the tenser passages don’t quite crescendo the way a reader would expect after that explosive opening.

Overall, I would rate the book 3.5 stars rounded up. This is the perfect read for the beach, or perhaps, even a private terrace in London.

This book takes us on a journey of a woman learning to forgive herself and move on in her life by getting out of her own way. This story captivates from the start and keeps you engaged the whole book! I think the development of the plot and characters was executed amazingly by Lizzy Dent & making the characters so relatable and real was definitely top notch!!

I enjoyed every moment reading THE SWEETEST REVENGE! A refreshing and endearing love story about a woman learning to forgive herself and move on in her life by getting out of her own way. The author has a way of making characters so real and relatable yet still entertaining. I love the dynamic between Amy and Jake and their genuine love and support for one another. Now I just wish the series Amy and Jake create and write were real shows to watch!!

This book wasn’t for me. I started reading a few nights ago, made it to about 8%, came back to it and didn’t remember anything about it. Usually I stop reading when that’s the case, but I really liked the premise. After a quick refresher, I made it to 20%, but it wasn’t gripping me. It’s not really memorable. At the point where she drops to her hands and knees to crawl out of the conference room, I threw in the towel. I’m not the right reader. I don’t enjoy weak leads.

Oh Lizzy Dent, I just knew I was giving you another chance for a reason and damn if you didn't nail it. I'm glad I stuck around, but, more importantly, I'm glad I got to meet these characters and spend a little time with them - it was an absolute pleasure.
