Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of The Sweetest Revenge by Lizzy Dent.
The main character was quite unlikeable and I couldn't connect well with her. The story felt dragging and flat overall and uninteresting, considering how the cover seems to be fun and engaging.
Lizzy Dent's books are always a delight! Filled with humor, great banter and swoon worthy couples, I'm never disappointed. If you enjoy friends-to-lovers and stories about TV production, this one is for you.
Thanks to Putnam for the copy to review.
I found this book to be entertaining during the beginning chapter. However, as the book progressed, Amy's inner thoughts about an event two years ago got a little old. I also wanted more romance and less ex revenge.
The Sweetest Revenge had me hooked in the beginning but towards the end, I found myself really unable to connect with the MC Amy. As others have mentioned, I found myself really questioning her decisions toward the later half of the book. While it was really obvious that Amy and Jake were attracted to each other...their chemistry didn't really jump off the page.
Thank you to NetGalley, Penguin Group, and G. P. Putnam’s Sons for this Advance Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review.
A predictable rom-com but not in a bad way. Funny and so cute! I liked all the references to media (television/entertainment). Amy Duffy is a delightfully charming hot mess who bounces back from viral humiliation with style! 4 stars. Thank you Putnam Books and NetGalley for this e-arc!
A friends to more romance with a slightly chaotic heroine (or is her life just chaotic).
Plenty of laughs to mix with the chemistry that fades to black on page.
Easy reading and likeable characters.
I liked this but I didn't love it.
This one was pretty cute. I liked the characters and really loved the revenge. Definitely will be reading more from this author.
Unfortunately this book didn’t work for me and was a DNF but I am sure other readers will feel differently! Thank you for the ARC!
Highly engaging story that has had left me wanting for more. I would highly be recommending this book to anyone and everyone who enjoys a ‘simply good read’.
"The Sweetest Revenge" by Lizzy Dent is a delectable romp through the world of culinary capers and personal transformation. Dent's storytelling is a delectable treat, blending humor and heart. As the protagonist sets out to execute a devious plan, the reader is drawn into a delightful rollercoaster of events. The characters are endearing and their growth is a testament to the power of redemption. With its witty narrative, this novel is a charming exploration of second chances and the sweet taste of success. A savory read for those who savor a dash of humor with their romance.
This book was a very easy ready with a simple plot to follow.
It brought you into the world of tv series creation. So different to your books about books.
I am a sucker for a romance so of course I knew I would want to read this. Plus I was lucky to get an arc from net gallery!
Overall, I did enjoy the romance and how it was set in London. With a typical main female lead running away from her problems who finds romance overseas. But with that, her potential romance has problems of his own and ends up showing her how if he can overcome his, she can do the same.
I wish there would of been more of a relationship throughout versus at end end of the book. With that, I need at least an epilogue!
I would say this was more of a 3.5 star read for them. But definitely leaned closer to 4 stars.
I was not able to finish the book and therefore do not feel that I can give an unbiased review about the book, its plot, characters, or the author's work.
I really enjoyed The Sweetest Revenge! It was a fun and unique premise, especially since I love Love Island; I don’t think I’ve seen that be woven into any other books yet. I really liked Amy and was rooting for her especially as the story went on, and I loved seeing her and Jake’s relationship develop. Thank you to the publisher, author and NetGalley for the eARC!
The Sweetest Revenge is an apt title for a quick, witty read. While the main character, Amy is hit or miss in her likeability, I really enjoyed Jake and Maggie.
When Amy is spurned by her lover she takes out her revenge in a way that makes her have to turn and run and hide. Two years later she has made a life for herself, albeit a somewhat sad, lonely, and boring life. Soon this all changes and while Amy loses herself a little once again, she redeems herself and has the reader rooting for her. Overall, I enjoyed this book and read it very quickly. I would give it 3.5-4ish stars.
This book was ok. It started off strong but I quickly became bored. I couldn't really identify with the main character. I found her to be annoying.
One Word: HILARIOUS! What better way to get back at your ex than to destroy his car...in a (ahem) interesting way?! And then to have had it videod and shared on social media to the point where you feel forced to run away...across the world to London. That's what happens in The Sweetest Revenge...and more! I did the audio for this book and it was fantastic! Add this to your TBR. It's funny, romantic, sweet and spicy!
Honestly couldn’t finish this, got about 25% through. Main character seemed so unlikeable and unstable I just couldn’t see myself caring if it all turned out okay for her.
Oh Lizzy Dent, I just knew I was giving you another chance for a reason and damn if you didn't nail it. I'm glad I stuck around, but, more importantly, I'm glad I got to meet these characters and spend a little time with them - it was an absolute pleasure.
The Sweetest Revenge has humour and romance and it was easy to speed through the pages. The main characters were well written and I was rooting for them to have a happy ending. This book feels like it could be a Netflix film with likeable characters and humour.
