Just like other Daniel Hurst books I've read this got my attention right away and things were never dull. It was fast paced with lots of twists. I did think that a lot of things that happened were very hard to believe, so you definitely need to stretch your imagination. Also the epilogue was a little bit extreme and I would have been happier without that extra twist. All in all a fast paced, easy read.
3.5 stars rounded up.
Thank you to NetGalley and Daniel Hurst for allowing me to listen to an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoy domestic thrillers and this one was no different! I appreciated the multiple POVs and the twists and reveals kept coming…literally until the very end. The narrators were not my cup of tea nor were there any likeable characters in sight but overall I was engrossed by this fast-paced, tense thriller.
The Holiday Home introduces us to Nicola and her husband Ryan, and Nicola's best friend Kim and her husband, Lewis. Kim and Lewis have invited Nicola and Ryan to their vacation home in the Highlands. Nicola is happy for her friends, but Ryan appears jealous. He drinks a lot, says things he probably shouldn't and gets between Lewis and his teenage son, Cole. Nicola overhears Ryan and Kim talking and she is crushed. She is not sure who to believe anymore. When they are isolated as the car becomes undrivable and there is a storm, the story takes on a bit of a gothic feel with an Agatha Christie setting. When one of the characters ends up dead, the story heats up.
The chemistry between the four main characters was interesting. Ryan and Lewis, only tolerate each other because of their wives close and long-standing friendship, but there is also friction. There is a feeling of one-up-man-ship between the two with Ryan coming out lacking. Ryan is jealous of Lewis's wealth, and Lewis is jealous of Ryan's easy relationship with the his teenage son, Cole. Kim and Nicola get along well, although they are not as close as they used to be. When Nicola overhears a conversation between Ryan and Kim, she feels betrayed by the woman she thought of as almost a sister. As the storm rages and they need to try to get out, Ryan and Lewis have a major showdown. I have enjoyed Daniel Hurst's stories in the past and this one was enjoyable, but the final twist didn't measure up to his other works. I enjoyed the story and will continue to read Daniel Hurst's books, even though this was not one of his best. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Zoë Mills and Richard Burnip. They did a nice job with the voices of the adults, but the children, specifically Cole sounded too adult for the characters. I enjoyed the expression and suspense they were able to create.
Love every book so far that I have read from this author and this was brilliant. Such a good thriller with suspense. Kept me wanting more.
Daniel Hurst has done it again! I enjoyed this fast-paced thriller set in Scotland at a luxury cabin. A couple is invited to the vacation spot by the owners. The wives were best friends - the husbands not so much. The foursome harbors many dark secrets. This is a fast-paced domestic thriller that will keep you guessing until the bitter end.
Very simple plot and scenarios are a bit far fetched for my liking tbh. I did finish the book although I wasn't enjoying it. Based loosely around two best friends who stay together when they have their respective marriages and family. Spending time together in an isolated cabin some truths come out and threatens the friendships and potential to break up two families. Written in chapters from each of the main characters its an easy listen on audio. Thank you #NetGalley for the audiobook to review.
One word, five letters, LIARS!” Actions have consequences, and this fact is tragically demonstrated as the twisted truth is revealed. Secrets prove to be deadly during this dream holiday turned nightmare. Six friends embark on an idyllic getaway, but not all will make it out alive. Lies, deception, and betrayal are a lethal combination. In this case, ignorance is undoubtedly bliss. The narration added a layer of intrigue and intensity. The different characters were perfectly brought to life creating a sense of foreboding and mystery. Daniel Hurst never disappoints. Thank you Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for this entertaining, fast-paced, and addictive thriller. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
When Nicola has the opportunity to travel with her best friends to a remote luxury cabin in Scotland for a family getaway, she can't say no. Unfortunately, once she arrives secrets and conflicts begin to surface and Nicola is unable to leave.
This is a twisty thriller full of characters who are all behaving badly. If you love that, it's a fun ride!
Thanks to Daniel Hurst, Netgalley, and Bookauture Audio for providing this audio early release copy for my listening and review.
This is a great story. I really enjoyed this book. Especially with it being set in Scotland. I loved the description of the remote area. It was an exciting story with so great unexpected twists. I listened to the audiobook and thought the narrator did a brilliant job at bringing out the excellent sense of atmosphere and tension. The characters were great and realistic. I loved how the author lulls you into a false sense. I loved the ending it was page turning and very unexpected. It was a very satisfying read. My jaw certainly hit the floor.
So much praise goes out to the author and publishers for creating such a wonderful and exciting thriller. I can't wait to read more from this author.

I read this in one sitting - loved it!
It is dark, twisted and utterly thrilling.
You think you've figured out what is going to happen, but then you get slammed with amazing twists.

Nicola thought the trip to her best friends luxury cabin would be a quiet getaway for their families. The trip was the opposite of anything she expected. Nicola begins to suspect her husband and her best friend Kim are having an affair. She begins to question everything she thought she knew about her relationship and friendship.
As she tries to pack up and leave to get away from the lies everything prevents her from leaving. The car’s battery is dead, no cell phone or wifi signal. Then a shot rings out in the forest.
I love thrillers with rich people behaving badly. If you like them as well this book is for you. There are so many twists and turns, secrets that must be kept.
WOW this book had me hooked. The story was so gripped and it started off as a family drama and I was wondering when the thriller would come in and then it happened and i was like oh there it is! What a great phycological thriller with lots of twists and a really easy read. I devoured this in a day
One of my most favorite book genres to listen to as an audiobook is psychological thrillers, and Daniel Hurst is becoming one of my favorite thriller authors. I would not, however, label this book as a thriller. It’s more of a mystery. Also, unlike some of his previous novels, this one was a slooooow start. They can’t all begin with a bang out of the gate, but this one made me stop and re-listen to several chapters because the pace was not keeping my attention.
While I love dual/multiple perspectives in books, I was not the biggest fan of the narrators. I also wish that each chapter didn’t end with almost a spoiler of the next chapter. I would have preferred to save that suspense to keep me intrigued.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the advanced copy of this audiobook in exchange of my honest review.
A short getaway to a couple's holiday home in Scotland ends in murder and deceipt. Ncola and Ryan and their 11 year old daughter travel up to Scotland with Nicola's best friend Kim and her husband Lewis and their son Cole. The place is idyllic but very isolated and things suddenly take a turn for the worst when Nicola overhears Ryan and Kim talking in the hot tub.... It seems all the adults have been lying with deadly consequences. Well narrated and good suspense.
The Holiday Home by Daniel Hurst is a fast read (or listen) about 2 families that go away to Scotland together on holiday only to discover that their friendship has been a cover for years of lies. The book is filled with tension as the reader waits for these lies to be uncovered, and waits to find out what the fallout will be.
The characters all came off as a bit weak to me; I didn't really connect with any of them or agree with their decisions. My biggest frustration with the book, which is told from multiple POVs, was that often at the end of a chapter, the narrating character would refer to the future dire situation they would soon find themselves in. For example, a character might end a chapter by saying they would soon learn this would be the worst holiday they would ever experience; I'd rather just skip on to the next chapter and point of view.
All in all, this was an entertaining domestic drama. There was a twist or two at the end that some readers will enjoy! Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to review this audiobook.
The Holiday Home by Daniel Hurst is my 1st book by this author and it won’t be my last!!! It’s a psychological thriller with a stunning cover! This is one of those books you pick up because of the cover, take to the beach and lose track of all time getting lost in the drama! What a page turner!!
This one is full of suspense, drama, secrets, murder, romance and TWIST!!! Each chapter ending on a cliff hanger will have you listening or reading non stop!! Great cast of narrators who hands down brought these characters and this drama to life!! I honestly felt like I was watching a movie unfold!
A HUGE thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for this advance audiobook in exchange for a honest review!! I highly recommend this audiobook/book!
The Holiday Home

I have really enjoyed listening to Daniel Hurst’s stories.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookoutrue for the advanced copy of this title.
I really enjoyed listening to this story. It was difficult to stop listening to it.
The story begins as two families are away on holiday at the one families vacation home. Everything is going amazingly until the secrets start to unfold that they have been holding onto for years.
Will the friendship last through this? I am not sure any friendship can withstand this betrayal.
Thank you again for the advanced copy of this audiobook.
The story took some twists I definitely wasn't expecting, but it's more of a domestic drama than a thriller. Two families go on vacation together at one of the couples' new holiday home. But snide comments from both husbands threaten to ruin the fun for their wives, who have been best friends for a long time. As tension bubbles, one of the vacationers overhears a shocking conversation that changes everything. Secrets spill and trust unravels, making me keep listening for the plot reveal even though I didn't like any of the characters by that point.
The first problem I had with this book was the narrator who read Ryan’s chapters - his voice was dull and fairly monotonous. The second problem was I guessed very early what was going to happen - everything was pretty predictable. A real shame as I have enjoyed Daniel Hurst’s other books.
Thank you to Bookouture, Author, and NetGalley for the arc of this book in exchange for my honest review. This is my 3rd Daniel Hurst novel. It was really slow at the beginning and took me several times starting to finally stick with it and finish. I really had a hard time listening because of the accent. I literally had to slow it down. (Not anyone’s fault but my own. ) although I give it only 3 stars it wouldn’t stop me from reading more of Daniel Hurst.
