This is a closed population thriller set in a rural destination. This book was ok in the beginning with lots of obvious foreshadowing, but the plot and storyline picked up in the second half of the book.
The main female character and her daughter were really the only characters in the book that were somewhat likeable. Even the son was obnoxious to me, and the other adult characters were detestable!
I found the plot to be a bit predictable, but I did like the ending - it was a bit different than your typical thriller ending.
Overall, this book was ok. I’d be interested to see if other moves by this author were similarly written.

Holy crap this audiobook was addicting! In true Daniel Hurst fashion, it was a fast paced thriller that I couldn’t get enough of!

I very much enjoyed this audiobook, the twists and turns kept me enthralled throughout. The narrators brought the story to life for me.

The book had an interesting plot, which really sucked me in. At times, it did feel slightly lacking, I expected more twists. I really did not see the ending coming though.

The Holiday Home by Daniel Hurst Narrated by Zoe Mills, and Richard Burnip was an excellent audiobook, with great twists and turns throughout that will just have you gripped from the beginning till the end, This was an audiobook I just had to start and finish it to see what happens, so glad I did not have anything planned for that day and I had a baby blanket to finish.

The narrator Zoe Mills was excellent and it took me a while too warm to Richard Burnip. I highly recommend this audiobook. I love the way Daniel writes.

Big Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy in exchange for a fair review for The Holiday Home

Another great Daniel Hurst story! I had guessed one of the main twists, but Daniel always slides in a couple that surprises you! I love his style of writing. I actually loved the narrator in this story too!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

This audio book started off well but I felt it dragged on abit, the voice of Ryan didn’t have much connection to the character and the narration in general didn’t differentiate much between the characters. Over all I felt the story was week and lacked any real depth. Not one of my favourite Daniel Hurst

I usually like Daniel Hurst’s writing but the books can be hit or miss- this one, The Holiday Home, was a miss for me. Had I read it, I might have enjoyed it more but I listened to the audiobook version. The narration is well paced but I disliked the voices of both the narrators.
Thank You to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity listen to the audiobook version of this ARC.

Your best friend invites you to her vacation home. Only problem is your husbands do not get along. Still, you jump at the opportunity. What could do wrong?

Sadly, it didn't grab my attention like I wanted it to. I finished the book but it wasn't as memorable as I hoped.

Story felt a bit long. I thought I was close to the end a few times but I wasn't. I wasn't sure what else could happen.

I didn't enjoy the son's POV it felt like an adult trying to write as a kid. Something was missing from that perspective.

Thank you to the publisher & NetGalley for this ARC!
Release date: 3.1.2023 today!

My thanks to Net Galley and Bookouture Audio for allowing me to review this audio book.

Note : SMALL SPOILER
What would you do if you and your husband were invited to a vacation property by your best friend and her husband and you overhear your best friend telling someone that HER son is YOUR husband s? That's what one woman finds out that sets off a deadly set of events where someone does not come back from the trip.

Loved this! Twisty domestic thriller that will hold your interest!

I have been searching for books set in wooded areas, and when I saw Holiday Home, it fit my theme. I received both a digit and an audiobook through NG. While I read and listened to it, I enjoyed listening to it more.

What is going on between the covers

Nicola and her family are invited by her best friend Kim and her husband Lewis to their lakeside cabin for the weekend. She overhears something that has turned her world upside down and wants answers from her best friend and husband. Secrets start to come out as the danger increases.

My two cents

The secluded luxury cabin in Scotland attracted me to read this one, and I enjoyed the isolated feeling of danger in the story.

The story is told through multiple POVs, with Nicola as the primary narrator. I enjoyed listening to Zoe Mills' voice as she narrated Nicola's POV, but I didn't enjoy being in her head. She rambles on about her worries and that becomes annoying quite quickly. I had this nagging feeling I couldn't shake that this was a male author writing a woman's POV, and she sounded weak and whiny.

The pace is fast with short chapters ending with foreshadowing adding some suspense to the story however it also felt repetitive.

Overall: The Holiday Home is a fast-paced entertaining story with some flaws that doesn't require much attention making it an easy one to listen to.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Holiday Home' by Daniel Hurst.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Daniel Hurst, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 1st March 2023. HAPPY PUBLICATION DAY DANIEL HURST AND HAPPY SAINT DAVID'S DAY EVERYBODY, FROM WALES!!!

This is the second book I have read by this author. I have also read 'The Doctor's Wife' which I would also highly recommend!!

I was originally drawn to this book by its stunning eye catching cover and intriguing sounding synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that this book is "A twist-filled psychological thriller that will keep your heart pounding. If you love Behind Closed Doors, Gone Girl, and The Housemaid, you’ll be gripped by The Holiday Home." I am a huge fan of 'Gone Girl' and 'The Housemaid' so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a HUGE fan of Daniel Hurst after reading his 'The Doctor's Wife'. If this book is even half as good as that one was it is guaranteed to be a page turner! I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue, 34 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in the Scottish Highlands, Scotland. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture. I have actually holidayed in Scotland previously so am looking forward to seeing if I recognise any areas Daniel has based his book on!

This book is written in first person perspective and the protagonists are Nicola (main narrator and Ryan's wife), Ryan (Nicola's husband), Cole (Kim & Lewis' son) and Lewis (Kim's husband and Cole's Dad). The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on.

Well done Daniel on yet another absolutely heart racing and page turning psychological thriller!!!

AN ABSOLUTELY INTRIGUING, THOUGHT PROVOKING, UNPUTDOWNABLE HEART RACING AND EXPLOSIVE BOOK THAT WILL KEEP YOU UP LATE AT NIGHT UNTIL YOU TURN THE LAST PAGE!!

Wow!!! This book is fantastically written and had me hook, line and sinker from beginning to end. The descriptions were so in depth and vivid that the hair on my arms was standing on the ends and my heart was pounding throughout. The synopsis, title and cover were perfect for the storyline.

I absolutely loved this unique page turning explosive page turner. I was absolutely absorbed throughout this psychological thriller. It is filled with tension, drama, family, suspense, lies, secrets, deceit, murder, romance, love, and omg the twist!!! I DID NOT see the twists coming at all and there were more than one!!! Just when I think everything had been worked out and things were settling down BOOM there was another bombshell!! A MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS Daniel!! It is getting harder and harder to shock me but by God you did that over and over and over!!! What an ending!!! One of the most gripping unputdownable nerve wracking psychological thrillers I have EVER read!!! You have one hell of a talent and I cannot wait to get hold of your previous and future books in this series. I cannot remember the last time I was so hooked by a book but you managed that big time!!! I loved that the book is told from so many different perspectives and each of their stories/chapters were perfectly weaved together to show us everything that is going on and how each of the characters are thinking and feeling throughout. The storyline is filled with crime, shocks, suspense, tension, deceit, and murder. There was so much going on and it was very fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. The surrounding atmosphere was absolutely perfect and the narrative ensures you are completely absorbed into the storyline with the characters coming to life all around you thanks to Daniel's evocative writing skills and Zoe and Richard's amazing narratives. This book is absolutely addictive and I read it in one sitting. I absolutely loved the cliff hanging explosive twist at the end that leaves you wanting more! It kept me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails with my heart absolutely pounding throughout especially at the end! I really am looking forward to the next book by this extremely talented author. A gripping, all consuming addictive page turner!!!

Clear your schedule before you start as I read this in one sitting as I could not put it down!! Practically every chapter ended on a cliff hanger so no way could I put it down!! Absolutely hooked!! I would absolutely love to see this turned into a movie!!!!

This is one of the few books that I have listened 100% on Audiobook. If I listen to a book on audiobook I usually also read the physical book between but for the second time I listened to the whole book and I was impressed! I must say a HUGE congratulations to the narrators Zoe Mills and Richard Burnip who both did an absolutely amazing job bringing this story and the characters to life. I have previously listened to Soraya Lane's 'The Italian Daughter' on audiobook that was also narrated by Zoe Mills and I would highly recommend listening to or reading it as it is an another fantastic page turner from another great author!! I would listen to it and this book in the car and while walking at any opportunity. I'm not only looking forward to reading more books by Daniel but also to listening to more books narrated by both Zoe and Richard!!!!

.

The characters were all strong and realistic and thanks to Daniel's absolutely fantastic writing skills and Zoe Mills and Richard Burnip's amazing narrative skills they all come to life when you are turning the pages. My heart went out to Nicola for what she went through and what happened to her. She is an amazing mother, likeable character and strong woman. I also felt sorry for another character and although I was not a fan of them at the beginning I did feel for them as they didn't deserve what happened to them at all. I was not a fan of two of the characters and thought it was a disgrace what they did and then continued to do throughout the book. My heart also went out to Emily and Cole who are just innocent children but are affected by what goes on throughout even though they haven't done anything to deserve any of it. It just goes to show how much what adults and parents do can effect their children for life. It is hard to say too much about the characters as I am worried I will give too much away and I really don't want to spoil it for future readers so I wont say anything else and let other readers make their own minds up about how they feel about the characters.. Regardless of whether you love or hate the characters they all worked perfectly together to make this an addictive and explosive storyline!!!

This is exactly why you are one of my favourite male authors Daniel! An absolute must read author!! I cannot wait to read all your previous and future books!! Here's to your next success 🥂

Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read the prologue and the first chapter of Daniel's absolutely addictive 'The Doctor's Wife' which is another explosive page turner and one I have read myself and would highly recommend!!

Overall an absolutely heart racing, suspense filled, unputdownable addictive page turner psychological thriller filled with twists with a shocking ending!!

Genres covered in this book include Domestic Thriller, Domestic Fiction, Women's Psychological Fiction, Family Life Fiction, Murder Thriller, Mystery, Thriller, Suspense, Women's Psychological Thriller, Romantic Suspense, Domestic Thriller,Mystery, Suspense, Crime, Thriller & Mystery Adventures, Psychological Fiction, Crime Fiction and Psychological Thriller amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of 'Gone Girl', 'Behind Closed Doors', 'The Housemaid', Shari Lapena, Karin Slaughter, Melinda Leigh, Kendra Elliot, Lisa Regan, Paula Hawkins, Lisa Jewell, Gillian Flynn, Freida McFadden, Rachel Abbot and anyone who loves an explosive ending!!!

253 pages/ 6 hours 49 minutes

This book is just £1.99 to purchase, £7.99 on paperback and £16 for the audiobook via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5 /5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a quick and compelling thriller full of unlikeable characters who do twisted things. I had moments where I thought I had the characters and their motives figured out only to find out I had been wrong. This was a decent and entertaining read.

I love Daniel Hurst so when NetGalley gave me an advance chance to read this yesterday I obviously couldn't put it down. I loved the narration on this audio book about two women who had been best friends for over 15 years and their family vacation to a holiday home that quickly revealed secrets no one was supposed to ever know. The plot was a little weak though in my opinion. Thank you again NetGalley.

Getting together with friends for the weekend should make for a wonderful, fun and relaxing time. But for Nicola, Ryan, Kim and Lewis it soon becomes a nightmare. The Holiday Home was a gripping, entertaining and hard to put down read for me.

Nicola and Kim have been best friends for a long time. They enjoy getting together with their spouses and children. Things have been tense between Nicola and Ryan and she hopes this time will be just what they need to get back on track.

But when she overhears a conversation, the trip becomes a nightmare! But that is not all, things are about to get worse. Who can she trust?

This book kept me on my toes and wanting more at the same time. I loved the pacing and the sense of unease and tension that grew as the book progressed.

I listened to the audiobook and thought the two narrators did a fantastic job.

This was pure escapism reading for me. It was highly entertaining, gripping, kept me on my toes, and full of twists.

I received this as an audio galley to listen to for free in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for giving me access.

Upfront, we already know someone isn't going to make it back from this vacation...figuring out who was a challenge until it happened. We follow multiple POVs throughout this trip and find that they all are hiding a secret of some variety.

There were some very predictable moments but the ending was worth it. Hurst kept me interested throughout the story, making this a very bingeable read.

What a holiday.. what a time to find out who your friends are.. A very absorbing tale of 2 families and how a lie can effect yours and your family and friends lives.. listened to this in one day. Beautifully written description of Scotland, made you feel as if you want to be there until the lies start to collapse. The narrator was very good and I really enjoyed this story.

Firstly, I am thankful for the opportunity to have received a free copy of this Audiobook through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

Two couples, two children, a weekend away in a luxury holiday home. What could possibly go wrong?

Kim and Nicola, best friends for years, their husbands not that fond of each other. Who's being honest and who has lies they don't want getting out?

This was a quick and enjoyable read, kept my interest and kept me gussing!

I rate this Audiobook 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐stars and would recommend to those who enjoy their psychological thrillers!

2.5 rounded to 3

The premise is great, but I struggled to like/care about the characters. The twists were fairly obvious, and the chapter transitions were just weird (especially for a well-established author.

Thanks to #NetGalley and the publisher for early access to this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

My Rating: 3.5 Stars

The perfect holiday or the perfect nightmare…
When Nicola's best friend Kim invites Nicola's family to Kim's family's luxury "holiday home" in rural Scotland, it's an offer that sounds too good to be true.

Thank you NetGalley & Bookouture Audio for an advanced copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

I think Daniel Hurst should be everyone's go-to for a quick but entertaining read. Though i didnt love this as much as i did The Doctors wife, i liked this. It was entertaining enough especially getting to the ending.
I loved the Epilogue...
I Recommend this. Yes 😍
