A dark and twisty domestic thriller that kept my attention the entire time.
Two families set out on holiday to a beautiful cabin, and what’s meant to be a relaxing and fun weekend becomes a time of secret revelations and one person not making the trip home.
The twist at the end I definitely didn’t see coming and would interesting to explore in the future.
Narrator did a superb job and I will definitely be on the lookout for more books by this author and/or narrator.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this early audiobook in exchange for my honest opinion.

Book to be published March 1 2023.

The Holiday Home is a quick, enjoyable thriller. The story was fast paced and engaging despite the plot twists being fairly easy to predict. I had trouble connecting to any of the characters. Most were either bland or unlikeable. I really liked the setting despite some of the book's shortcomings. The luxury cabin in Scotland was beautiful. I didn't feel much suspense like I had anticipated from this book but it was still an enjoyable read.

Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I almost DNFd because of how bored and uncaring I was but I persevered. I didn’t find any of the characters likable and didn’t care what happened to any of them. There wasn’t any mystery or suspense and no big reveals and that one “reveal” at the end felt tacky and overdone.

This was a good listen with good narration, unexpected plot twists, and a story that kept me listening!

Two couples are planning for a nice getaway for the long weekend. Kim and Nicola have been best friends since high school, but their respective husbands, Ryan and Lewis don't see eye to eye. And Nicola starts to understand why when she intercepts a text Kim sent to her husband and overhears a conversation between the two...
This domestic drama/thriller was not very thrilling. I'm usually a HUGE fan of Daniel Hurst's books, but this one fell flat. It's a short read, but it felt like it was dragging as I did not relate to any of the characters. I listened to the audio book, and even if this is told in multiple POV, I was never confused about who was talking, the narrator did a great job. I you want to give Hurst a try, I strongly suggest starting with something else.
I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

since i have read many of Daniel Hurst's books i was exited to listen to his newest one!
to be honest: it was not love at the first sight and i thought the main characters were a bit superficial. and once again i was oh so wrong!

i thoroughly enjoyed the story as well as the narration by Zoe Mills and Richard Burnip.

Thank you #NetGalley #Bookouture Audio for this advanced audiobook

I really enjoyed this general fiction/domestic thriller. The story is about Kim and Lewis and their fifteen year old son Cole, as well as Nicola and Ryan and their eleven year old daughter Emily. Kim and Nicola are friends, but Lewis and Ryan don't really like each other much. Kim and Lewis are rich, and they own a luxurious holiday house in Scotland, where they all decide go to for a holiday. What is meant to be a relaxing getaway ends up turning into a nightmare, and many shocking secrets from the past are revealed. One person will not leave the holiday alive, but who will it be?

The male and female audiobook narrators were amazing, and they did a fantastic job of portraying the characters. The audiobook is quite short, so it was easy to listen to in one day.

I highly recommended this book to anyone who loves their books to be full of secrets, lies, adventures and shocking twists and turns!

Many thanks to the author, narrator, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

Nicola’s best friend, Kim, and her husband, Lewis, invite Nicola's family for a holiday at their luxurious log cabin in rural Scotland, Nicola gladly accepts. Finances are tight and they can't afford any other holiday.

What starts as a fabulous holiday trip takes a turn. Secrets are revealed. Liars are exposed. And before the trip ends, someone is dead.

I love a secluded thriller where they are cut off from socieity. The atmosphere is perfect, right down to the thunder just as they arrive.

As secrets come out, and we find out who the liars are, the tension only builds.

I have not read this author before, but will definitely be seeking out more.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for an ALC in exchange for my honest review.

Thid is the first Daniel Hurst book I have read and again this book is told in multiple pov's. This is a good thriller with a few twists and turns but it is a bit of a slow burn. I did however listen to this in under 2 days & after listening to the exerpt of another one of his books at the end I am looking forward to reading/listening to more of his work. Hige thanks to Netgalley & Bookouture for sending me this arc in exchange for an honest review.

Firstly let me start I love a Daniel Hurst book and now that I have discovered it via audio, it feels even better. The ending's are always brilliant and this one no different.

However this one wasn't a normal 5 star from me, I couldn't jell with the characters and found it not as addictive as the other books, but of course I had to listen to the end and listened over a short time frame. It just for me wasn't his best but still good and worth the listen.

The narration was good.

I was given an advance copy by the publishers and netgalley but the review is entirely my own.

Daniel Hurst returns following The Doctors Wife with his latest domestic suspense/family drama, THE HOLIDAY HOME —two marriages of lies, dark secrets, deception, and betrayal unravel during a holiday getaway that turns into murder.

A long weekend in a luxury log cabin in the Scottish Highlands sounds like a dream come true. Intended to be a fun and relaxing holiday getaway sipping champagne in a hot tub, a cracking fire, good food, and wine, all surrounded by the secluded mountains at a luxury getaway with friends, is anything but.

Meet Kim and Lewis, the owners of this luxurious vacation second home. Also going along is their fifteen-year-old son, Cole. What teen wants to hang out with their parents?

Nicola and Kim are best friends, and she has invited Nicola and hubby Ryan along for a long weekend.

Even though Kim and Nicola are friends, Ryan and Lewis are not. Ryan & Nicola do not have this kind of money and cannot afford a vacation like this, so Nicola is just thrilled to be going along with her hubby and 11-year-old daughter, Emily.

Ryan resents Lewis' money. Nicola also is jealous and resents all the money things can buy, and how Kim flirts and showcases her body.

The weekend is a disaster waiting to happen. Unfortunately, there will be someone not leaving the holiday home alive.

Told from multiple POVs:
NICOLA
KIM
RYAN
LEWIS
COLE

Infidelity, betrayal, cheaters, lies, jealousy, and secrets are exposed. Tempers explode. There are also financial troubles. An overheard conversation in the hot tub, a text, a teen boy, and secrets turn into an explosive showdown. Loads of DRAMA!

Who will protect whom, who will lie, who is the murderer, and who will DIE?

Of course, there is a dead battery, an eerie Forest, lousy weather, no cell service, and more to make this setting claustrophobic. But the dreamy weekend is about to turn into a nightmare.

Another BIG secret is kept under wraps that the author pulls out at the end, bumping the rating to 3.5 Stars. Who is the LIAR that gets away?

I have read many Daniel Hurst books and love his style and am a fan, but this was my least favorite. Being a successful writer cranking out numerous books yearly, each cannot be a 5-star winner.

I listened to the audiobook performed by Zoe Mills and Richard Burnip and read the e-book, as well. The narration was OK, but not my favorite. A little dull.

I was not wowed, blown away, or cared for any of the characters in the novel, and not invested in them. The dark humor was missing. It was more of a family drama and domestic suspense and would not qualify as a psychological thriller.

You really could care less which character was murdered. I did like the teen son, which was a victim of circumstance. Key elements to keep the tension, suspense, and plot moving were missing. However, the last unexpected twist (his signature) was wicked and wrapped up nicely.

If you are new to Hurst, I recommend starting with The Couple in the Cabin, which was one of my favorites by Daniel. I am still a big fan and look forward to his next book. I also enjoy his newsletters interacting with readers.

Sorry, but this did not really thrill me. The audiobook had a female and male narrator so I was hoping for more of a "he said, she said" vibe like in The Doctor’s Wife. Nikola had way more chapters than Ryan did which got a bit monotonous. The setting in a deluxe holiday home near a Scottish loch sounded so dreamy. There were some exciting moments and I wanted to finish the book, so it was a 3-star read for me. I have not written Daniel Hurst off. This just isn't going to be one of my favorites.

Thank you to Bookouture for an audio ARC and a DRC in exchange for an honest review. I used them both to read faster.

Thank you #NetGalley and #Bookouture for allowing me to read and review #TheHolidayHome by #DanielHurst. I have recently become a fan of Daniels books and he has done it again. Another gripping thriller with that extra twist at the end. It kept me on the edge of my seat and could not put it down.

I discovered this author with
NetGalley a couple years ago and his books always have me on the edge of my seat.

A nice getaway with friends turns into a nightmare. Kim and Lewis invite friends Nicola and Ryan on a vacation to their cabin in Scotland.

Kim and Nicola have been best friends for years and they hope they can have a wonderful getaway. They each have a child on this trip as well.

The cabin is fancy and jealousy rears its head. Ryan offers Cole, Lewis son an adult beverage which does not go over well.

Tensions rise and get worse when Nicola discovers a message on Ryan’s phone which makes her think he might be having an affair with her best friend. Unfortunately what she discovers can change all their lives forever.

Hurst has quickly become another go to for domestic thrillers. 🖤

Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy. I will say Daniel's books all seem to be the same. This one was fairly predictable. I don't think the title matches. I would assume a holiday home is by the beach-not like a cabin. It was ok. Not as good as I thought it would be.

A weekend at her best friend's new holiday house seems like a dream to Nicola. She pictures a fun, relaxing weekend hot tubbing, hiking, good food and great conversation with her best friend and their families..... but the reality couldn't be further from the truth. Decades buried secrets are spilled and things quickly get way, way out of control.

I only learned about this author on NetGalley recently, and I've really enjoyed his other books, but unfortunately this one just didn't do it for me. For me, it was an extremely slow burn that lacked a single likeable character. Given the terrible things that Nicola finds out over the course of the book, you should feel bad for her..... but I just didn't. They were all whiny and lack luster and not a single one of them had a believable reaction to the insane events they experience.

I wanted to like this one so badly. I love the cover, and I've taken many a weekend trip with couple friends, I think it's super plausible that over the years things come out.....but this was just too much.

Daniel Hurst always delivers and this is no exception.

I enjoyed this tale told by multiple points of view about two couples that venture to Scotland to stay in a holiday cabin owned by one of them.

Tensions were already strained on the journey and I could tell it was going to be an interesting break but not so relaxing for all. As the story started to unfold I was keen to listen and didn't guess the plot until it was right on top of me.

Another great listen which I devoured in a couple of days.

This is my first book by Daniel Hurst and I finished it in one day! The story grabs you right at the beginning and keeps you wanting more. It was a easy read with great plot and couple unseen twist at the end. The narrator's were great as well. Job well done I'll be looking for more books by this author.

I started and finished the Holiday Home in one day. It has fast paced chapters and really well done character development except for the kids. The 15 year old boy is mature and on pace for his age group but clearly the daughter is written too immature for an 11 year old girl. Setting that aside, the storyline was really enjoyable. I love that Daniel Hurst writes light thrillers where they are enjoyable and keep you guessing but not to heavy and depressing. I read for pleasure and don't care for "dark" books. There are several twists in the storyline and I couldn't stop until I finished it.
