This is a hard book to review. On the one hand it is full of knitting info and tips. On another hand it is very wordy. On another hand it pushes yarns that are made by friends. On another hand the patterns are relatively uninteresting unless you are outdoors a lot in chilly weather..

Rosann Fleischauer presents 21 patterns for mitts, hats, cowls, shawls and ponchos. The mitts and cowls are interesting because they use cable and other textured knits. The hats designs are common and uninteresting. The shawls and ponchos might be of interest to people who wear shawls and ponchos but who does? I found a couple of the cowls and shawls interesting because they can be worn over the hair and I could maybe use them next time I go to Pakistan or Afghanistan.

I think the best use for this book would be as part of the library of a knitting circle. I'm not sure an individual reader would find it worth buying.

Buy this book and be Inspired!!
What is great about this book - It inspires me to want to buy some yarn and knit a cowl/headband (page 53), mitts (page 40) or poncho (page 108). These three items are what I will make first after buying this book. The chapters on tools and yarn selection are also really good.

Cozy Coastal Knits is so much more than just knitting patterns. The chapters before the patterns start give you lots of information about knitting. I have been knitting for years and saw tools that I will be buying for the future. When you review a book you read all the stuff before the patterns, when normally I would go straight to the patterns.

There is a picture and page number with each pattern listed in the Table of Contents.. That makes it so much easier to find what you want to make. I usually remember what I want to make looks like, but not the name of the pattern in the book. Cozy Coastal is not just the name of the book, but the theme used in the pictures and names of the patterns. The photos of the finished patterns are really nice. There are also pictures of the coast that make me want to take a trip when the weather is warm. There are also beautiful pictures that inspired the colors of yarn used in the patterns.

The beautiful knitting patterns in the book are diverse which makes it fun. They also show alternate uses for the items made from some of the patterns. I love making stuff that can be used more than one way.

Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of COZY COASTAL KNITS (21 Shawls, Sweaters, Ponchos and More)
by Rosann Fleischauer in exchange for an honest review. This book contains a variety of knitting patterns suitable for cold weather. The pattern difficulty appears to be beginner through intermediate. I recommend this book to knitters in colder climates who are looking for simple warm knits.

Cozy Coastal Knits offers many well-designed accessory patterns perfect for facing cool ocean breezes. There are helpful instructions for the beginner or intermediate knitter to follow, with an extensive introduction that covers all the basics of knitting. The patterns themselves are timeless classics in beautiful shades that reflect the beauty of visiting a beach or riverside.
As a knitter, I would love to make many of the patterns in this book.

Cozy Coastal Knits is a nicely presented book of knitted items. Shawls, ponchos, cowls, hats and mitts are featured. General knitting information, directions and tips are presented clearly. Photographs highlight the knitted items. There is not much new in this book but it is well done.

As an experienced knitter I appreciate the very well written patterns and I love the “pro tips”. The projects are basic knits that can be made by any level knitter. While I think every book that offers knitting patterns should include a section on essential materials and technique (needles, gauge, etc.) I’d have to say that this one was much too extensive. A beginning knitter may appreciate the additional information regarding specific yarns, but more than likely they would be overwhelmed by the extent of the information.

The pictures are pretty and the patterns seem well written. Unfortunately there is nothing new or interesting project-wise in this book. Most of them are very plain, basic knits that you could easily find similar free patterns for. The book itself spends way too much time in the opening talking about each individual yarn used in the book. Literally pages and pages of description. I know very few knitters who bother buying the specific yarns listed in a pattern book. I certainly don't. This might be a nice book for a beginner knitter who hasn't already figured out what their personal yarn and needle preferences are. But I would not recommend this book to a seasoned knitter.

My only real negative about this book is that the patterns are not only yarn specific, but also very colorway specific, and that's a bit... Confining for me. The patterns are easy enough to follow and are gorgeous. I'd love to either buy the specific colorway chosen for a few to find them, or there is a section about the best way to substitute.... But I probably, personally, wouldn't buy the book without already having a plan in place, yarn in hand, etc

More informative than most knitting books that market them to beginners. The patterns aren't all for beginners but I got a better grasp on gauge than I've gotten anywhere else. The patterns are largely light and breezy--perfect for coastal nights!

Loved this book! I'm a New England girl and avid knitter so your descriptions, patterns and gorgeous color choices reminded me of "home". This book makes me want to grab my knitting, head out on the lake and knit the day away. Each pattern was appealing with helpful pattern notes and pro tips. Happy knitting!

I really liked the chapter on yarn substitutions and the included suggestions in multiple price points. The patterns were well written and easy to follow. Most weren't really my style but someone will enjoy them.

I’m a big fan of books full of beautiful knitting patterns and was so happy to be given this ebook in exchange for an honest review. COZY COASTAL KNITS by Rosann Fleischauer.

This book is full of gorgeous patterns for a variety of items including hats, wraps, ponchos and more, for a total of 21 rated from beginner to intermediate. The photographs makes you want to spend the day at the shore, both wearing your knitted items and spending your toes in the sand and knitting some more.

There are several patterns in this book that I hope to make soon. We don’t live near a beach but I’m sure I can find a lake nearby that will be nice, too. 5 stars!

“To my husband Erik. Had you not bought a boat, I might never have picked up a pair of knitting needles.” Let’s all thank Erik, for Cozy Coastal Knits is a gift to knitters. It is one of the most informative, detailed guides I have read and, although I’m a long-time, reasonably advanced knitter, I learned so much from the beginning chapters. For instance, in one size, knitting needles can vary. The shape of the needle and the point also make a difference. How did I not know this? Yarn selection and substitutions are also discussed and while some of the gorgeous hand dyed yarns Rosann Fleischauer uses are expensive, she also suggests more affordable products. Pro tips are included for each category of instruction.

Since the author knits on a sailboat, the patterns are named for coastal locations. While they may be somewhat complicated for a beginner, they are definitely aspirational. There are accessories - hats, shawls and ponchos - sweaters and a skirt. Yarns are suggested for each project and the directions are easy to follow. The illustrations of the finished work and coastal locations are simply stunning. 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, Globe Pequot and Rosann Fleischauer for this ARC.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ It’s fine

Let me preface this review by noting that I actually quite liked this book overall, but it has one fatal flaw that can really cause a demerit in my experience of a knitting book.

Beautiful photography and page design with an airy feel, Fleischauer still packs a real punch with how much information is in this book. From yarn selection, to knitting a gauge swatch, to knitting your piece, to blocking she holds the hand for the reader and shows them every step of the way. Handy tips are highlighted for experienced knitters who would rather skim these pages to get to the patterns.

The patterns themselves seem to focus on drape and clean lines with the added interest and use of textured stitches. There are a selection of accessories and more ponchos than I ever knew could be included in a book. Trust me, I am a poncho gurl, this is a plus for me.

While the pieces are beautiful the garment patterns are, unfortunately, not size inclusive - which is a major thing I look for in pattern books as a plus sized individual. The largest bust appears to be 42”, which is 12” smaller than my own, and the smallest hip 40”, 20” smaller than my own. If you are a straight sized small to large you will likely find lots of use from these patterns as mixing up the colours they can fit into anyones wardrobe. Unfortunately for me, I am going to have to stick with the accessories.

I recommend this book for people who dream of listening to an audiobook in a hammock in July, while knitting and drinking a frozen margarita.

Having just read the Modern Daily Knitting blog post about Coastal Grandmother aesthetic, I came across this upcoming title from Rosann Fleischauer. Cozy Coastal Knits begins with an excellent and extensive primer on knitting needles. The most helpful information about needles I have ever come across in any knitting book. I have taught knitting classes for decades and most students need many years of experience and trial and error to learn these tips about knitting needles. The author generously shares her knowledge and expertise in other areas preparing the reader for the lovely , classic and beautiful patterns. Each pattern is wearable and comfortable with classic styling perfect for other places than coastal living. This book will be a once you refer to for years to come.

This book has a very thorough section on various yarns, substitutions etc. I found this to be a great tool that many books skip. Not for a beginning knitter, at least not without other references on various stitches etc. The patterns themselves are well written but lacked schematics. It focuses primarily on ponchos and shawls which aren't my thing. Just a few hats/fingerless gloves, one men's sweater, a woman's tank and skirt. I liked one hat for sure but the rest were a miss for me. I'd have liked at least one woman's sweater (or a unisex with waist shaping option).

Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book.
While the patterns are lovely, the real treasures for me were the first two chapters. “Tools to make your knitting life easier” and “Yarn selection” were loaded with great information that will help me with all my future knitting projects. The photos included are very well done - clear, full color, and multiple views of each project. The directions are clear with helpful notes and “pro tips.” The projects are not rated for difficulty, but I think there is a good mix of moderate to advanced level patterns.

I enjoyed the narration and the patterns were easy enough to follow. I was disappointed there were not any extended sizes. As most of my knitters need these or knit for those that do, I'll have to pass on this title. The photos were great and it made me want to grab my needles, but the limits on the sizing is prohibiting.

Cute patterns for mainly hats, shawls, and ponchos. Also lots of info on yarns, needles, and knitting accessories. Very informative and lovely pictures.

Thanks to NetGalley to an ARC.of this book.
