Not Your Exe’s Hexes
By April Asher
Narrated by Zura Johnson
Format: 🎧
Pub. day: Feb. 28/23

What do you get when you put together triplet witches and a few demons together? A fun, flirty and fiery romcom. This is my first April Asher book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Full of fun characters, interesting situations and a fair amount of spice. The audiobook is wonderful thanks to the narration by Zura Johnson who is able to present many characters giving each their own personality.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to listen to and review this audiobook arc.

This witchy romcom was a magical breath of greasy air. Info love a romcom, and I especially love it when the author finds a clever new way to follow the romance trope and raise the stakes. This story hit all the marks for me, with two swoon worthy main characters, and so many lovely details in the storyline; not to mention the magical characters.

If you love supernatural elements grounded in this world, this is the romcom for you.

For me, my only regret was not reading April Asher’s first in series before this one (Not the Witch You Wed). If I had done this, I would have felt more grounded in the characters from the get go. But it wasn’t a dealbreaker, because I quickly caught up.

The audiobook narrator did such a fantastic job giving every character in the story their unique voice. She did a fabulous job, making this a very enjoyable listen. I did listen at 2x the speed (with my average 1.75 X speed).

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this advanced audiobook copy. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The audiobook is really excellent, I love that the voice actor used lots of different voices for different people. Sometimes I find single actor audiobooks to be really boring when there’s not differentiation in the characters, and that did not happen here. I actually thought the audiobook was much more interesting to listen to than reading the physical book. I had to delete the physical book off my kindle because I kept falling asleep. The voice actor for this audiobook adds enough interest to keep the book driven where the written book is lacking!

Ahhh this book was so cute on audio! I loved Not the Witch You Wed, and this was the perfect addition!

So impressed with this book. I enjoyed the diversity in this series, the "Interspecies" dating if you will. The MFC is "Overweight" but the book doesn't focus on that which is nice. So many books with a "Fluffier" character put so much focus on that, that it ruins the story. Also the characters are mature (30's?) and relatable. The FMC is a badass witch and a strong character. This book even talks about one of my favorite 80's movies, which alone makes the book unforgettable to me. Great paranormal read. Can't wait for the next one!

First of all, a huge thank you to Dreamscape Media & Netgalley for this audiobook.
Not your Ex‘s Hexes is a cute romcom, that has it all. Magic, adventure and romance.
Although you should keep in mind, it is the second novel in the Supernatural Singles Series.
The narrator was really good and I quite enjoyed the plot..

I loved this! Even better than the first book. Sweet, exciting, fun, and big-hearted. I love this world and these characters. The mix of magic and grounded friendship, romance, and camaraderie. Also, this audiobook was delish! Amazing job by the narrator.

So far I have been loving everything Dreamscapes has been producing!! Add another one to the win list!!

Not your Exs Hexes is another mid series book that I have to go back and read the first one for! And I can’t wait for the last one either! So much fun listening to these witches get hitched. Absolutely zero subtlety on who the next book will be about! And that’s how I like it!!

These two duck buddies turned soul mates is a fun story line with a new paranormal twist. Great, easy, satisfying read!

Thank you NetGalley, dreamscape media, publisher and the author for the ALC in exchange for honest review. I really enjiy2ed the story and narration. The spicy scenes were perfection and the characters had great development throughout. My only teeny tiny little complaint is it could have been shorter.

3.5/5☆

"Liar. Liar. Cauldron on fire, little witch."⠀

April Asher, Not Your Ex's Hexes ⠀

Not Your Ex's Hexes by April Asher was an absolute riot to listen to! This witchy romcom just about everything that you want in a good story. Triplet magical sisters. Check. Hot demon brothers. Double check. An angel, a succubus, political intrigue, an animal rescue, and a failed heist? Um what!?! I swear I laughed through this whole story, but there were also a few parts that made me sigh with happiness. There's a ton of heart in the relationships with the characters and I liked that. I felt like I got to know each of them a little as they all interacted together but held distinctive individual tales. Plus there's totally a ton of sexy time for those people who like it spicy! Rose is so relatable as a former gifted child turned odd job queen. I knew I loved her when she said, "People who interrupt someone obviously engrossed in their book have true evil in their heart, just saying." Damian is a devilishly handsome grouch who I couldn't help but want to slap and then hug. They are the perfect sunshine/grump couple! This was a great romcom book and I'm definitely interested in hearing more about the other sisters and their romantic endeavors. Also the narrator of the audiobook deserves all the kudos for really bringing these characters to life with a heavy injection of humor and sass!⠀

“In April Asher’s next Supernatural Singles novel, Not Your Ex’s Hexes, a one-night-stand between a willful witch and a broody half-demon conjures an adventure that wouldn’t be complete without several magical mishaps.”

I think this book just came to me at the wrong time.

On the surface, this book is meant for me.

Paranormal romance with witches AND sexy demi-demons? A hot mess and a hot vet? Witty banter? Rescue animals? Bounty hunting, for the love.

Put that in my veins.

Honestly, though, I couldn’t get past magic puns (“Hex you!” & “Witch, please!”) and the nicknames (Princess, Little Witch, etc.).

Add to that the whole, “I’m breaking up with you for your own good!” trope, and a reveal that amounted to a Glinda’s, “You had the power all along, my dear.”?

I tapped out.

I own that I’m absolutely in the minority (4.06 on GoodReads), so I think, when the third book comes out, I’ll just carb-load and hydrate first.

5.5/10

Thanks to NetGalley and DreamScape Media for this witchy ARC.

When I started Not Your Ex's Hexes, I didn't realize it was the second in a series. So many names, so many relationships, and I was confused.

BUT

I liked it enough that I went and picked up the first book in the series, read it, and came back.

Yup, Asher is that good.

Already looking forward to the next one in the series.

This was fun, and spicy, and cute, and everything I wanted from a follow up to Not The Witch You Wed.

These sisters and their friends have my whole ass heart. There's just far too much about these characters not to love! This book brought us the middle triplet and the demon romance we were promised at the end of book 1 and y'all I was here for it. I mean, he's a demon (okay, a HALF-demon) who is also a vet and takes care of abandoned and abused animals in his spare time? And he's hunky AF, drives a motorcycle and has a favorite leather jacket? Yes. Please.

And Rose is nothing to shake a stick at either. Now that she's out from under the pressure of being the next prima, she's figuring herself out and being one bad ass witch. She's got a lot of Vi's sass plus a lot of her own charm from her prima-in-training days and y'all mixing her with Dr. Demon was exactly what I wanted/needed from this book.

The curse - I didn't see things going the way they did but I LOVED it. It was a perfect rom-com worthy ending to this story. And even better? Just like the last book, this one showed us the most likely next couple from book three and y'all I am HERE for it! I also have a sneaking suspicion that along with Olivia getting her own book, their succubus bff (I can't remember her name right now) might get her own book. A girl can dream.

Thank you, Net Galley, for an audio ARC of Not Your Ex's Hexes by April Asher. This book was "okay," in my opinion. Much of the dialog did not resonate with me. That's just my opinion.

Not Your Ex’s Hexes is the second novel in the Supernatural Singles series. Each novel in the series follows one of the Maxwell sister triplets. While I have not read the first novel following the eldest, Violet, in her own story, Not the Witch You Wed, I feel that I did not have to enjoy this story. While there may be some foundation in the previous story, there was some nice recap in this novel and how it all related to the main character, Rose Maxwell. She was groomed to become the next Prima, head witch of the Supernatural Council, but was passed over once Violet came into her powers. Luckily, Rose is content with this turn of events and now she feels like she can breathe although she needs to figure out what to do next.

One day Rose sees some starving horses and decides to set them free, however they were a part of an animal sanctuary ran by veterinarian, half-demon, Damian Adams. The tensions flare as sentenced to community service at the sanctuary and it so happens that the two of them shared a one-night stand awhile ago. The two may have a lot of chemistry when they meet again, but this being a romance, there are reasons they cannot be together. Asher attempts to make this initially an enemy to lovers’ story that moves into the friends with benefits followed by romance. For me, I did not buy the enemies part as it felt incomplete to me. When the two characters are together at the sanctuary, I did feel the connection between them, so I feel the fwb worked well and wished Asher just went with that angle instead.

Rose was an enjoyable main character, and I liked her POV as the main narrator. She is trying to find her path in life after believing she was on a certain path. She has a great relationship still with her sisters, but the three of them need to navigate this new reality. As for Damian, he is the broody mysterious love interest where readers slowly learn his background, but Rose is initially kept in the dark. There is a hex involved in this story, which I liked the concept, but it ended up feeling a little half-baked for my taste. I feel it was built up a little too much for how it played out on the page, however, other readers may feel differently. The pacing of the story is pretty fast as Rose, and Damian spend more time together and I loved Asher’s easy writing. The story is simple, yet interesting and it made me want to complete the story. Overall, it was a fun romance and made me want to go back and not only read the first novel but pick up the third novel in the future!

**I give a special thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to read this enjoyable novel. The opinions expressed are completely my own.**

What do you get when adding a witch, a half demon, and a one night sexepade hot enough to leave marks? Don't forget meddling sisters and mother, with the Gran that teaches them all the sass. This book leaves the reader burning for more.

I think I enjoyed Not Your Ex's Hexes even more than Not the Witch You Wed! This book was so cute and sweet, I just loved it. Rose and Damian were fantastic MCs and I really loved the whole plot.

Once again Zura does a fantastic job on the audio and my only complaint is not having a male narrator for Damian's pieces. That being said, I loved how Zura brought both characters to life.

I just adored Damian. His fork in the road led him away from being a big bad and into a life of serving animals and avoiding love. He does everything he can to keep away from his demon side for fear it may take over and lead him astray. And with the hex his teenage girlfriend put on him, he isn't looking for a partner or he may lose his soul. He's a loner with a brash exterior, but a heart of gold and he had me falling head over heels for him in no time. I really loved Rosa too and together they were absolutely perfect.

I did see the way to break the hex from the beginning, I think it's been done before, but that's because it's such a perfect curse. I really loved the part the ex played in the story, it was surprising and really refreshing. The grand gesture and apology was adorable and led to such a cute ending for these two.

I can not wait for our final triplet's story. I've been excited to really meet Olly and I know it's going to be a good one.

Thank you to NetGalley, April Asher & Dreamscape Media for an audio arc of Not Your Ex’s Hexes in exchange for an honest review. This review is wholly my own & may not be reproduced.

You don’t have to wait to get your hands on this one. It was released on February 7, 2023 so you can run out and grab it right now!

This is #2 in the Supernatural Singles novels (Not the Witch You Wed was the #1) by Asher.

I adore audio because I can listen to it wicked fast (2.25 speed) and get through it quickly to come here & give you a review!

Rose is given community service at the animal sanctuary owned by Damian, a half-demon who Rose once had a one-night-stand with. They agree to be friends-with-benefits, no feelings, no strings attached. We’ve read other books & seen other movies, we know how this generally works! The Rose decides her path in life is to become a Hunter of demons, but Damian is not too keen on this idea because it puts Rose in harm’s way and well, Damian might be a little in love with Rose.

Keeping pace with the first novel of the series, this one did not disappoint. The characters were well-developed & I was already invested in them. Damian was by far the best & my favorite character. Pacing was fast, romance was perfection and had just the amount of cuteness, comedy & dilemmas.

I’d definitely recommend grabbing this one now – along with Not the Witch You Wed, if you haven’t read that one yet. You’ll love them both!

Ahhhhh! For sure a 5 star book.

When I requested this from NetGalley I didn't realize it was a series but thankfully it's a standalone but tied together series so I was okay. Now that I've finished it though I'm VERY excited to read the first in the series, Not the Witch You Wed.

This series follows triplet sister witches and in this instalment we are with Rose Maxwell, ex Prima apparent. Rose has trained her whole life to become Prima and now she's moved on to find her true calling, too bad she doesn't have a clue what it is. On the path to figuring it out she ends up with some community service hours working for a hot half demon she had a one night fling with a few months back.

Rose and Damian are awesome together and I loved reading their coming together story. Grumpy/Sunshine is my trope for sure.
