We are always encouraged to follow the Mediterranean style of diet. A well laid out book and plenty of inspiration mean that it is easy to find something that you want to make and eat.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I may make a few more Mediterranean recipes with this book, but there weren't as many as I would have liked.
Mediterranean food is the go to food now, and this book captures the essence wonderfully. There are recipes for everyone from the easy to intricate. This book is well laid out and the information is provided in easy to read pieces.
I accessed a digital review copy of this book from the publisher.
All of the recipes are clearly written and easy to understand. There are plenty of pictures of the dishes. There is also information about the Mediterranean diet throughout the book.
I have health issues and food allergies, so I was skeptical when my doctor suggested looking at a Mediterranean diet. I think there are enough substitutions available now that I could make it work to a degree. This cookbook is laid out nicely but there are very few photos of the recipes. There are some I would try, but I think this is a cookbook I would borrow from the library, not a cookbook I would buy. Others with less restrictions or more motivation may get more use.
Nice for a beginner to the Mediterranean diet. These are just as advertised. Quick and easy. The recipes are easy to follow with easily accessible ingredients.
Interesting cookbook and recipes. This book has excellent information on the Mediterrean Diet. I believe many people will find this book interesting. It seemed to target those who are already familiar with and eat at least some vegetarian food. For a newbie, the recipes and some ingredients can be intimidating. I would recommend it for those who are a little more advanced in this eating style. For beginners, finding somewhat familiar recipes was difficult. I agree there should be more photos of the food. I will revisit the cookbook when I am more comfortable with Mediterrean foods.
Trying to eat healthier? The Mediterranean diet is considered the healthiest, and if you need good recipes to cook at home, Quick and Easy Mediterranean Recipes: Delicious Recipes from the World's Healthiest Diet, by Amy Riolo, is a perfect choice. Not only are the recipes mouthwatering, but they are also quick and easy, so anyone – beginners to advanced cooks – can easily make these successfully at home.
The recipes are written in the traditional manner so they are easy-to-follow. The ingredients are listed at the top with succinct instructions following. There are interesting hints regarding the recipes and the Mediterranean diet traditions, as well as several introductory chapters on the Mediterranean foods, where they are eaten, and why they are healthier.
Unfortunately, there aren’t enough photographs. While the photographs included are professional and beautiful, many of the recipes aren’t pictured. That is the only drawback to this excellent cookbook. The recipes are so appealing, though, most of us will want this cookbook on our shelf anyway. There are lots of healthy bread recipes which are easy to adapt to the dough setting on the automatic bread machine. The main dishes are also appealing, and heavy on chicken dishes, which are generally healthier than red meat. There are also some good lamb dishes; this is a good way to introduce lamb to the family. Also, the Shakshuka recipe is easy and excellent, especially served with whole wheat pita, and one worth trying. Anyone perusing this cookbook will find that there are many good recipes to put in the “must make soon” queue. Most cooks will be impressed with the yummy dips and appetizers, as well as the excellent light desserts.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
Cited as the #1 healthiest diet over the years, this book describes the Mediterranean Diet in detail, incorporating easy to make recipes. To improve heart health, brain function, to look and feel younger this book shows you the benefits of using beans, vegetables and fruits, fish and olive oil into your everyday cooking. Recommended.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this cookbook for review. I enjoyed that this cookbook contains nutritional information for each recipe as a lot of books do not include that information. The recipes are easy to understand and the more intricate ones tend to have photos available.
I made the dish on the cover and it was delicious! I'm making Mussels in Tomato-Saffron Broth again.
Very nice and easy-to-make recipes. I love seeing a few ingredients for each dish and most importantly, I already have the spices frequently used. There is a nice variety of food such as Moroccan, Italian, Turkish, Greek, and Lebanese. I plan on making Greek Island Style Stuffed Calamari with Rice and Herbs next.
Recipes are divided into different categories following the Mediterranean Diet Pyramid; whole grains, fruits, vegetables, fish and seafood, dairy, poultry, and meat. These are easy-to-follow recipes but not all recipes have an accompanying photo. I do like the "Mediterranean Tradition" at the bottom of each page. I find the info very helpful and feel like reading fun facts.
Thank you Quarto Publishing Group – Harvard Common Press, New Shoe Press and Netgalley for my DLC.
Quick and Easy Mediterranean Recipes by Amy Riolo is a lovely little book with a lot of information packed into it such as the "diet" benefits, science, lifestyle pyramid, nutritional/calorie information, tips, recipes with traditions and the three keys to the healthy and relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle.
Regional recipe headings are in English and the coinciding language for ease and interest. As an expat living in Croatia I snap up any book even remotely related to my passion for the Mediterranean. Many of the recipes contained have origins and similarities in several countries with different name variations, preparations and ingredients. Discovering the differences is always fun!
The Poached Vanilla-Scented Pears and Figs is incredibly good. Wild asparagus season has just begun so my plan is to make this version of Cream of Asparagus Soup. The Braised Fennel with Chestnuts and Shallots looks delectable as does Sizzling Rosemary Shrimp over Polenta. Can't wait to make Greek Cinnamon-Scented Lamb Meatballs, Sweet Olive Oil, Cherry and Almond Cake and the Orange Blossom Pudding with Pistachios. Heck, I want to make them all! Wonderful ingredients are key. Do know that some ingredients are inaccessible by many so use the recipes for inspiration to create your own version. I have celiac so always make substitutions.
My favourite parts of this book are the recipes and the blue squares containing fascinating traditions which are so important to those living here. Fresh Mediterranean foods are extremely healthy and I feel good just eating them. Sounds trite but moderation is indeed key as the author explains. My only wish was for all Mediterranean countries to be highlighted (such as Croatia).
My sincere thank you to Quarto Publishing Group - Harvard Common Press and NetGalley for providing me with an early digital copy of this wonderful book!
This book takes its inspiration from the countries within the Mediterranean, being bought up with Italian parents, this is what we ate, and I must admit, I continue it into my old age.
This book has great solid recipes from Italy, France, Greece, Spain, Turkey and surround, they are easy to make, filling and delicious. The ingredients is easy to source and the recipes are easy to follow and quick to cook. I really enjoyed the fish recipe especially, the stuffed calamari from Greece. Each page has some tidbit of information on Mediterranean tradition which are interesting to read. . Thanks you NetGalley and the publishers for the DRC
I love a Mediterranean diet and this book certainly fills a gap although there are other books on the market covering the same area. Well presented with a good range of easy to follow recipes. Half of the appeal of the Mediterranean way of cooking and eating, is the wonderful array of very fresh produce available in the markets around the Med which are quite difficult to replicate elsewhere as the abundance and flavours just seem unique to that part of the world. However this cookbook would certainly give a good feel. Appetising colour photos accompany some of the recipes, a shame that it's not all of the recipes as I always find that a source of inspiration.
This book has so many delicious recipes! When I opened it, my first thought was really positive and the dishes look easy described.
I’m definitely trying recipes from this cookbook soon.
If you love the Mediterranean taste, this is a cookbook for you.
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group, the author and Netgalley for providing me with this copy. My opinions are my own.
Thank you Netgalley for this book in exchange of my honest review.
This book just remind me of a lot of recipe my family use to do when I grew up ! This book feels home to me.
I liked the variety of the recipe and how easy it can be to prepare them. The only thing is that it don't say how long it can take to prepare them, which can be useful to know before starting any recipe.
Otherwise, I enjoyed discovering new recipe throughout the book and definitely want to prepare some of them !
Thank you Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group
I liked how Riolo explains the science behind the Mediterranean Diet. The recipes are well explained and easy to follow. I particularly like the Tradition fact boxes on each page for extra information. As mentioned by others some recipes require lots/specialist ingredients so double check you have everything before starting.
This book was very informative on the Mediterranean lifestyle and food. I liked how the author explained the lifestyle, science, and ingredients first before going into the recipes. There are recipes that involve ingredients the typical person might not have so be sure to note them before trying. If you have a friend that loves to try new cuisines, this book would be a lovely gift. There are a lot of recipes and they seem fairly easy to make.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book. I received a copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest review
This book deserves a better cover. There’s a lot of great information and gorgeous photos in this book and based on the cover we can’t see it. This book talks about the benefits of the Mediterranean diet and then talks about the main ingredients and some recipes for Whole Grains, Fruits, Vegetables, Fish and Seafood, Dairy, Poultry and Eggs, Meats and Sweets. And then it talks about cooking basics and the Mediterranean pantry. The recipes look delicious and the photos are gorgeous! I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
I glanced through this book and found a lot of interesting recipes that I will definately try. It made me hungry so I had too put down.
