DNF - I had high expectations for this book, but after starting it, my attention was not grabbed in the way I prefer. This is not necessarily a bad book, but I'm not interested in finishing it at this time.

I tried several times to like this book, but the characters and the storyline just didn't hold my attention very well; I felt disconnected with it. Additionally, I wasn't aware that this was the third book in a series - hopefully there's a note next time?

When Bryce takes on her three nieces after their parents are killed in a car accident, she’s at a moment of overwhelm when she is literally swept off her feet by a Marine at the store while stocking up on baby supplies. It’s not the opportune time for a new relationship, but the sparks are immediate and both Bryce and Ryker have their fair share of baggage: he’s launching a vehicle restoration business and still coping with phantom limb pain and PSTD that are the souvenirs of his tour in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Addison, Cecily, and June are coping with their parent’s loss with a mix of oppositional defiance and fear of change. Their grandparents are doing everything they can to make Bryce appear unfit as a guardian, instead of pitching in to help.
In spite of these challenges, there is a lot of humor and warmth in between parenting traumatized children, managing grief, and leveling up parenting skills. Newton writes warm, real heroines charmingly out of their depths, and strong, sensitive heroes who step up to lend support, taking care without taking over. Miscommunication features into the conflict between the love interests. Last in a series about the three Matthews brothers, this is a stand-alone book that is value-added if you’ve read the others.
I received a free advance reader’s review copy of #ChangeOfPlans via #NetGalley courtesy of #Forever.

Oh goodness, books that have children in them are always the best, especially in romance novels, because they are so funny, these 3 girls are the best. Bryce had to become a mom to her nieces when her brother and sister in law passed away. She had to move into a new town and it’s been an adjustment for her and those kids, but the people in the town are amazing. Ryker is back home from Afghanistan, dealing with PTSD, and an amputee, he’s a recluse and doesn’t want to be bothered but when he meets Bryce and her nieces, this man was in love. The way the universe works in their favor? Bryce works as a chef at his mom’s restaurant, I knew their fate was sealed. I loved the laughs, the amazing gestures from Ryker, and the people around them, this is part of a series, but I loved how easy it flowed without reading the other books. I will say I happy cried here and there, because this book is so heartwarming.

This was a book that I read about 2-10 chapters, liked it, but never picked it back up.
Do I remember why I put it down? No. It didn’t grab me enough to keep going, but I do remember it was enjoyable.
It’s a DNFN (did not finish for now) just because one day I’ll start back at page one, but today is not that day.

I have loved all three books I have read by Dylan Newton. This is my go-to author whenever anyone asks my answer for best author for small town romance. Newton captures charming and quirky characters like no one else.
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for sharing this book with me.

This was a really cute book! It was not the first in the series but it is a standalone. I love the mental health representation and physical disability rep. It was a really sweet story of found family and healing from a recent loss. I would definitely recommend this book and read the rest in the series

When disaster strikes and chef Bryce Weatherford is given guardianship of her three young nieces, her life goes from cooking with fire…to controlling a dumpster fire. Five‑year‑old Addison refuses to remove her fairy wings, eight‑year‑old Cecily won't bathe, and tween June is majoring in belligerence. With all this chaos, Bryce jettisons hope for a life outside of managing her family and her new job.
It's been years since Ryker Matthews had his below‑the‑knee amputation, yet the phantom pain for his lost limb and Marine career haunts him. To cope, he focuses on his vehicle restoration business. He knows he's lucky to be alive. Yet, “lucky” feels more like “cursed” to his lonely heart.
When Ryker literally sweeps Bryce off her feet in the grocery store's baby aisle, they both feel sparks. But falling in love would be one more curveball neither is ready to deal with… or is it exactly the change of plans they need?
Loved, loved, loved this story. cannot wait to read more from the author. Will recommend to others.

This is my third DN book, and probably my second favorite. How Sweet It Is is still my all time fav, but this is a close second. The sweetest meet cute, the best STEAM, and such a heartwarming story! Loved it so much.

I’ve been waiting for Ryker’s story and I knew I’d love him. Ryker was injured in Afghanistan on duty in the Marines. He lost part of his leg and suffers from PTSD. I’ve always had a soft spot for veterans and Rykers story felt authentic and realistic. Bryce has recently become the caregiver for her 3 nieces after her brother and his wife passed away in a car accident. She struggling to care for them while their maternal grandparents fight for custody. There is a lot going on for both of these characters and somehow the two of them just seem to click. I really liked how the book handled both of their stories and brought them together for a sweet romance. My only complaint would be the miscommunication that occurs but that wasn’t a major issue. This is a really cute small town romance in this interconnected series about 3 brothers.

Change of Plans by Dylan Newton is a heartfelt and uplifting romance that mixes humor, personal growth, and a dash of unexpected family dynamics. The story follows chef Bryce Weatherford, who suddenly finds herself becoming the guardian of her late sister’s three young kids. Juggling her new life as a parent, Bryce crosses paths with Ryker Matthews, a former Marine with his own emotional scars.
Newton excels at blending romance with deeper themes like grief, healing, and finding family in unexpected places. Bryce and Ryker's relationship develops naturally, with plenty of banter and touching moments. The kids add warmth and a bit of chaos, making the story feel realistic and full of life.
While the book tackles heavy themes, it's balanced with humor and lightness, keeping it from feeling overly heavy. The chemistry between Bryce and Ryker is well done, and their growth throughout the book is both believable and heartwarming. If you enjoy romances that explore second chances and the power of love in overcoming life's challenges, Change of Plans will leave you smiling and uplifted.
PS, The book cover is beyond cute!

This book was good but wasn’t for me. There is definitely an audience for the book but I don’t think I was audience. There is a chance I read it at the wrong time but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would

This was my favorite of the Matthews Brothers series! It's such a great conclusion to the series. Thank you Dylan Newton!

I loved the premise and the idea of the book and enjoyed the characters! Especially a book with a service dog and mental illnesses is always a plus in my book!
I really enjoyed this one!

I loved this book. I think both characters evolved and grew both together and individually. From a funny misunderstanding of a meet-cute to helping each other deal with PTSD and the sudden development of raising three children after familial loss, I thought the story was well-paced, and all the characters were well-rounded and life-like. I read it quickly and want to pick up the other two companion books I somehow missed. I recommend this book; however, do be aware of the topics of PTSD and grief that are prevalent in this story.

Change of Plans by Dylan Newton. Pub Date: August 1, 2023. Rating: 3 stars. In this heartwarming read, the reader is introduced to Bryce through an unfortunate event in which she has guardianship of her brother's kids after him and his wife die in a car accident. She has to step up into a parental figure during a difficult time but does it with gumption and support. She unexpectedly meets Ryker, who has his own struggles with PTSD from being a war veteran. Ultimately they come together in a strangers to lovers romance full of love, heart and grit. I recommend this novel for a quick and uplifting read. Thanks to #netgalley and #forever for this e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

This was a very cute book. Always a fan of romances with kids. Thank you to Forever for my advance copy!

I loved getting to read another book by Dylan Newton! I was super excited to read about Bryce and Ryker. Such an inclusive and loving romance. I enjoyed getting to see their growth. Highly recommend this trilogy!

Unfortunately, after multiple attempts I have been unable to get into this book. It felt very slow for me and the characters were not likable which made it hard to root for them and enjoy the story. Due to that I have decided to soft DNF the book and potentially pick it up at a later date.

So cute! I love books with child characters and this one was no exception. I didn't realize this was the third in a series so that was on me but overall this was worth the read!
