This was a really cute book! It was not the first in the series but it is a standalone. I love the mental health representation and physical disability rep. It was a really sweet story of found family and healing from a recent loss. I would definitely recommend this book and read the rest in the series

When disaster strikes and chef Bryce Weatherford is given guardianship of her three young nieces, her life goes from cooking with fire…to controlling a dumpster fire. Five‑year‑old Addison refuses to remove her fairy wings, eight‑year‑old Cecily won't bathe, and tween June is majoring in belligerence. With all this chaos, Bryce jettisons hope for a life outside of managing her family and her new job.

It's been years since Ryker Matthews had his below‑the‑knee amputation, yet the phantom pain for his lost limb and Marine career haunts him. To cope, he focuses on his vehicle restoration business. He knows he's lucky to be alive. Yet, “lucky” feels more like “cursed” to his lonely heart.

When Ryker literally sweeps Bryce off her feet in the grocery store's baby aisle, they both feel sparks. But falling in love would be one more curveball neither is ready to deal with… or is it exactly the change of plans they need?

Loved, loved, loved this story. cannot wait to read more from the author. Will recommend to others.

This is my third DN book, and probably my second favorite. How Sweet It Is is still my all time fav, but this is a close second. The sweetest meet cute, the best STEAM, and such a heartwarming story! Loved it so much.

I’ve been waiting for Ryker’s story and I knew I’d love him. Ryker was injured in Afghanistan on duty in the Marines. He lost part of his leg and suffers from PTSD. I’ve always had a soft spot for veterans and Rykers story felt authentic and realistic. Bryce has recently become the caregiver for her 3 nieces after her brother and his wife passed away in a car accident. She struggling to care for them while their maternal grandparents fight for custody. There is a lot going on for both of these characters and somehow the two of them just seem to click. I really liked how the book handled both of their stories and brought them together for a sweet romance. My only complaint would be the miscommunication that occurs but that wasn’t a major issue. This is a really cute small town romance in this interconnected series about 3 brothers.

Change of Plans by Dylan Newton is a heartfelt and uplifting romance that mixes humor, personal growth, and a dash of unexpected family dynamics. The story follows chef Bryce Weatherford, who suddenly finds herself becoming the guardian of her late sister’s three young kids. Juggling her new life as a parent, Bryce crosses paths with Ryker Matthews, a former Marine with his own emotional scars.

Newton excels at blending romance with deeper themes like grief, healing, and finding family in unexpected places. Bryce and Ryker's relationship develops naturally, with plenty of banter and touching moments. The kids add warmth and a bit of chaos, making the story feel realistic and full of life.

While the book tackles heavy themes, it's balanced with humor and lightness, keeping it from feeling overly heavy. The chemistry between Bryce and Ryker is well done, and their growth throughout the book is both believable and heartwarming. If you enjoy romances that explore second chances and the power of love in overcoming life's challenges, Change of Plans will leave you smiling and uplifted.

PS, The book cover is beyond cute!

This book was good but wasn’t for me. There is definitely an audience for the book but I don’t think I was audience. There is a chance I read it at the wrong time but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would

I loved this book. I think both characters evolved and grew both together and individually. From a funny misunderstanding of a meet-cute to helping each other deal with PTSD and the sudden development of raising three children after familial loss, I thought the story was well-paced, and all the characters were well-rounded and life-like. I read it quickly and want to pick up the other two companion books I somehow missed. I recommend this book; however, do be aware of the topics of PTSD and grief that are prevalent in this story.

Change of Plans by Dylan Newton. Pub Date: August 1, 2023. Rating: 3 stars. In this heartwarming read, the reader is introduced to Bryce through an unfortunate event in which she has guardianship of her brother's kids after him and his wife die in a car accident. She has to step up into a parental figure during a difficult time but does it with gumption and support. She unexpectedly meets Ryker, who has his own struggles with PTSD from being a war veteran. Ultimately they come together in a strangers to lovers romance full of love, heart and grit. I recommend this novel for a quick and uplifting read. Thanks to #netgalley and #forever for this e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

Unfortunately, after multiple attempts I have been unable to get into this book. It felt very slow for me and the characters were not likable which made it hard to root for them and enjoy the story. Due to that I have decided to soft DNF the book and potentially pick it up at a later date.

So cute! I love books with child characters and this one was no exception. I didn't realize this was the third in a series so that was on me but overall this was worth the read!

Read this if you like: Dual POV, disabled vet, steamy

This was such a cute read. I love the representation. The couple is so good. I love the plot of him getting his nieces. There were a few repetitive factors in this, but overall I loved it.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for this advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

I really like the humor in the writing in this book - i absolutely love it when a book makes me laugh out loud. Was the plot predictable? Absolutely - that doesn’t make it a bad book, and sometimes you just want to read a standard rom-com that doesn’t leave you guessing.

God, this book pulled at my heart strings.

First off, Bryce and the girls were absolutely the best and I fell in love with them in about 2.5 seconds. And then proceeded to fall in love with Ryker about six seconds after that.

This book was also hilarious. I found myself laughing just as much as I found myself wanting to cry. Ryker handled Bryce and her nieces like a champ, taking all of their mishaps in stride, never letting things like bodily fluids deter him. He was such a caretaker, from the absolute first second, without stepping on Bryce’s boundaries for the girls.

The miscommunication towards the end got to be a little over the top. The phone tag was understandable, considering what was going on, but Bryce’s reaction when she heard his voicemail seemed a little extreme. Like you’re not even going to confront the guy about it? I was having a hard time swallowing the “I haven’t had a chance to tell her anything” at that point.

But Bryce and Ryker had great chemistry and such a wonderfully innate understanding of each other. The girls were so sweet and amusing and little terrors all at the same time you couldn’t help but love them, and both Bryce and Ryker’s support network were the perfect balance of helpful and intrusive.

Bryce’s life is turned upside-down when she is given guardianships of her three nieces. While mourning the loss of her brother and SIL, she has to learn how to parent and guide the girls through this difficult time. The last thing she needs is any kind of romantic entanglement when handsome and helpful Ryker appears.

Change of Plans is the third book in the Matthews Brothers series. It can be read as a stand-alone but the MCs from the other two books do make appearances throughout this one.

This book is definitely heavier on romance than it is on comedy. While there are some humorous moments I don’t think I would necessarily consider this a romcom. Overall though, I did enjoy Change of Plans. Both of the MCs have their own baggage and difficulties that they are working through and neither is openly asking for help. They do manage to find balance and comfort in each other when least expected. There is a lot of back and forth between them and some miscommunication but I think that goes with trying to understand this new period of life. I love that Ryker is the 1st to fall.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’ve enjoyed this series with the Matthews brothers. This one might be the least compelling or memorable for me.

Pros:
-Ryker’s struggles are complex and real. His tough exterior, teddy bear heart was easy to root for.
-None of the conflicts were trivial misunderstands (except a short bit at the end).
-I love the nieces and the portrayal of the day-to-day struggles of being a “mom like creature”. Especially children of trauma.
-Bryce’s calm and compassionate reactions to almost everything were a joy to read.

Not my favs:
-I found this one to be a bit cheesy in its dialog and very insta-lovey.
-The grandparents are over-the-top villains in a lot of ways. They lacked nuance.
-very little plot and lots of repetitive inner dialog.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC to review!
