I thought this was such a cute book! I was so excited to read it, after loving How Sweet It is and All Fired Up! I loved that we got a story from Ryker’s POV. I also think the author tackled his PTSD well, this is something we see often in books.

I thought Ryker and Bryce were cute together, and they had the funniest meet cute! I did feel like Bryce was hard to relate to a few times in the story, and I didn’t love that. Overall, I really enjoyed the book! I found the plot to be good, and the book was quite entertaining at times! I also really enjoyed how the characters from the other books were sprinkled into this one! I do recommend checking this book out!

I was thrilled to be a part of a Traveling ARC team for her upcoming release of Change of Plans. I flew through this read in record speed and fell flat on my face in love with Ryker Matthews.
From the minute he collided with Bryce Weatherford and her three nieces in the supermarket aisle I felt that everything changed for both of them. Undeterred by the chaos of Bryce’s life after she became the guardian of her deceased brother’s children, Ryker stepped up in the most endearing ways. Whether it was mass purchasing period products, rescuing Cecily from under the bread aisle, patching up fairy wings or dressing up as Goth Easter bunny (I’m still not finished laughing over that scene!!) Ryker showed up. Bryce returned the support by showing Ryker that the loss of his leg and struggles with PTSD does not make him any less whole or deserving of love. This book was a perfect balance between heart, comedy in the chaos, and heat. Watching these flawed main characters fight for a HEA while adjusting to their “change in life plans” was the romance I needed to kick off my summer reading. All the stars!! Read it! 🥰

Thank you NetGalley and Forever Publishing for the opportunity to read this advanced copy for my honest review! I’ve pre-ordered my physical copy because it must be on my shelves.

👌🏻what i liked:
The meet cute was adorable, and I love when he falls first. This was such a cute read, very heartwarming and uplifting.

🙃 what i didn’t like:
The miscommunication. This just wasn’t for me. I don’t think I knew that this was a “trope,” but I don’t think I will be seeking out anymore books that rely on miscommunication as a part of the story line.

📖 recommend?
Yes! Maybe read the first 2 books in the series first!

🥰 special thanks

This was a wonderful and heartwarming story about family, friendship, loss, and love. Bryce Weatherford leaves a position in a 5-star restaurant to come home and take guardianship of her 3 nieces when her brother and sister are in a tragic accident. She has a long hard fight ahead of her when the girl's maternal parents want to take the girls. But Bryce will never let that happen. She will work as many jobs as she can to pay for a lawyer. She loves those girls.

Ryker Matthews is a Marian Vet, that has been through an amputation from IED and is dealing with PTSD and some other medical conditions and keeps things from his family so that they don’t worry. He also has a car restoration business to help him keep the nightmares away.

When Bryce needs a hero in the grocery store, little did she know that Ryker would be the one that would be the one to sweep her off her feet in the baby aisle of the store. Little did they know just how m many changes of plans would happen to bring together through many a misunderstanding.

This was my first Dylan Newton book and it won’t be my last. This book had me laughing out loud at the antics of the three girls and their aunt and also had me grabbing for the tissue box. It was so wonderful and heartwarming that will pull at your heartstrings. Byrce is fierce in her love for these three orphaned girls and Ryker who is gruff and handsome, but has a tender heart for the 3 girls and their aunt, and his family is the perfect hero. When I finished this book, my heart was light and I had a smile on my face.

Bryce Weatherford is given guardianship of her three young nieces when disaster strikes their family, and her life goes from cooking with fire to.. well.. a dumpster fire. Between the tween June being uninterested in everything that's not her phone, eight-year-old Cecily boycotting bathtime, and five-year-old Addison refusing to remove her fairy wings, the family is a whirlwind of chaos. She's struggling to establish a routine, while establishing herself at the new restaurant she's working at in a small town.

Although it's been years since Ryker Matthews was in a military accident that resulted in a below-the-knee amputation and having to retire from the Marines, both still haunt him. He's poured everything he has into his vehicle restoration business, but the PTSD has him holed up at home.

When Ryker literally sweeps Bryce off her feet at the grocery store, they both feel sparks. Would falling in love be one more curveball neither is ready for, or is it exactly the change of plans they need?

I read this book not realizing it was the third in a series featuring the Matthews' brothers, and I will certainly be going back to read them! I loved how as the reader, you're immediately thrown into the chaos that is Bryce's life, written like you're there with Bryce feeling the stress of the situation. You could feel Bryce and Ryker's chemistry from jump, which I adored, and enjoyed seeing all the supporting characters take on the role of helping Bryce, no questions asked. Ryker's family is wonderful and so patient with his PTSD and helping him as much as he'll allow. The only gripe on my part was that there was the classic miscommunication trope thrown in at the end, and the ending felt a bit rushed! I would have loved to see more about how they managed to blend their lives once they decide to give things a go. Overall, this was a lovely, lighthearted read!

This one was not for me. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read it ahead of time.

I enjoyed Dylan Newton's previous two books in this series, and was thrilled to get a chance to read an advanced copy of this one. It was quite good. Don't let the 'lighthearted romance' tags fool you, this book mixes some very serious things into the laugh-out-loud scenes. Warnings for way too much vomit, very serious grief, and PTSD.

Thank you to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the eARC.

DNF due to transphobic comments/making Queer-ness a punchline/toxic masculinity

I have enjoyed Dylan Newton's romances in the past, but I have noticed some skirting moments in her previous books that had me a little weary on her writing. This book, however, pushed it too far for me to finish and continue being a fan in good faith.

There is a very cute scene where the main male protagonist is babysitting three little girls and ends up getting a makeover. Very cute! He's not embarrassed! He seems secure in his masculinity! Enter: his brothers. Now, these brothers were the male leads in the first two books in this world, and I was veeeery disappointed in their behavior. They make jokes about Ryker transitioning (for letting children have fun and putting makeup on him while babysitting?) and make fun of the idea of sharing one's pronouns (dick/dickish?? Not pronouns). I finished the chapter in hopes of someone calling them out on their toxic and transphobic behavior, but nope. They were just being jerks. I will not be recommending this book to anyone, and I will no longer read anything from Dylan Newton in the future. (Listen, this might seem harsh, but clearly the author doesn't find any problem in this kind of behavior/language, and as someone who supports LGBTQIA+ rights and has friends who this language would hurt, I can't in good faith continue supporting the author. The end.)

This was cute! I realized part way through that this was the third book in a semi-connected series, and I am interested in going back to the other two. The adopted family part of this book was really sweet, I definitely would not have managed as well as Bryce if someone handed me three kids.
Ryker is the perfect cinnamon roll romance hero, he always shows up at the right moment, but also the banter was adorable and giggle inducing. There was also great mental health rep as Ryker is suffering from PTSD after being a soldier in Afghanistan. The two step up and learn to lean on each other and that was very heartwarming. I would highly recommend if you are into a family, dual POV romance.

Thank you so much for a digital early copy in exchange for an honest review!

I really enjoyed reading this one and it was such a great wrap up to the series. This could be read as a stand alone but do yourself a favor and read each of the brother's stories. There is just something that happens when you read a romcom or romance book that the charters are so relate-able to .. it just make the story believable. This has dual point of views , funny banter, recovery of trauma, and just all the feels. I also encourage readers to go in blind .. do it with this one you will not be disappointed.

This is third book in the Matthew Brothers series but can still be read as a stand-alone. It follows Ryker, the middle brother and former marine, who suffers from PTSD and keeps to himself. However, that all changes when he meets Bryce and her three nieces. The two instantly connect and as Ryker helps Bryce with her new role as guardian, he begins to heal and open up.

This was a great small-town romance that was light-hearted and funny despite dealing with some more serious themes. My favorite part about this story was Bryce’s relationship with her three nieces. It felt so real, and Newton did a great job accurately depicting how kids that age would act around certain situations, especially after losing parents. And Ryker. He was the hero I grew to adore! It was the smallest acts of kindness from him that melted my heart the most. Also, if you read the two earlier books in the series, there is a ton of cameos from Imani, Zander, Drake and Kate and it was great to see all brothers get their happily ever afters!

Read if you like:
-Small-town romance
-Single parent trope
-Heroine who is a chef
-Cinnamon roll hero
-PTSD and disability rep
-Book series centered around brothers

Single guardian

So many laugh out loud moments!

I really enjoyed Bryce’s character, she was hilarious & spoke her mind. Finding a new normal being a “mom like creature” to her 3 nieces after the loss of their parents and she handled them with such understanding + care. So many moments tugged at my heart for those girls.

Ryker a veteran with his own struggles with PTSD but finds his way to Bryce and just can’t keep away. I loved how he was able to help in a moments notice and all his kind gestures. He was a very likable character that seemed like he would give the shirt off his back if you asked but His lack of communication really frustrated me at times. But overall still enjoyed his character.

I love how things wrapped up with the grandparents at the end and how they came together and truly wanted to support one another!

So I completely forgot that this one was part of an unofficial series — at least, it follows the brother of the male lead from <i>How Sweet It Is</i> (and <i>All Fired Up</i> as well, which I haven't gotten around to yet), but I will say that skipping around didn't impact my enjoyment of this book in the slightest. In spite of its connections to characters from a previous installment, this actually worked really well as its own standalone story. It can be difficult to make kid characters likable in a way that serves both the plot and the main romance, and in this instance, I was reminded a lot of <i>Raising Helen</i> while following along with Bryce and her nieces in terms of a story of a woman who isn't quite prepared to raise three kids unexpectedly as a single parent. The chemistry between the leads was also really great — lots of cheeky humor and Bryce slowly wearing down Ryker's more reserved walls. There's a bit of an overreliance on the miscommunication trope, especially in the last third of the book, which seemed more orchestrated as an obstacle rather than something these two would naturally reach on their own, but overall another touching, funny rom-com that tackles many heavy subjects with thoughtfulness.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

When disaster strikes and chef Bryce Weatherford is given guardianship of her three young nieces, her life goes from cooking with fire…to controlling a dumpster fire.

Say hello to my favorite Matthews brother! Oh my gosh, from the dedication to the very last word, I adored this book SO much! Bryce and Ryker’s story had me all up in my feels! I was laughing, tearing up, and all of my heartstrings were tugged!

If ever two people found each other at the right time, it was Bryce and Ryker. Their chemistry and support for each other was outstanding. I couldn't get enough of them. The scene where he buys all of the feminine products had me LOL!

The side characters added so much. Especially the nieces. They were adorable, hilarious, and I felt the way that the way Newton handled their grief was realistic and very relatable. The grandparents weren’t all that loveable but seeing their transformation was really sweet.

This was such a heartwarming love story, and also a beautiful love letter to all of the moms, and mom-like creatures out there.💛

What I loved;
🚌 Parent Like Creatures
🚌 Mental Health Rep
🚌 Slow-Burn Romance
🚌 Found Family
🚌 Hug Emergency
🚌 ALL the feels

Definitely my favorite of the Matthews brothers series! This story had me both laughing out loud and tearing up at different moments. Layered among the humor were some pretty deep issues (grief, PTSD, financial insecurity, etc.) that I thought were handled very well. A fun, well-rounded story!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

🚗 Change of Plans 🚗

“But mostly I just enjoy the way I feel when I’m with him. He makes me…value myself as a person again.”

After the loss of her brother and sister-in-law, Bryce finds herself suddenly guardian of her three nieces. Learning to juggle it all, she meets Ryker who helps them out of more than a few sticky situations. Ryker is a mechanic who mostly keeps to himself as he manages his PTSD from his time in the Marines, but something about Bryce has him learning how to smile again.

This one warmed me in two very specific ways: 1) the precious love between Ryker and Bryce 2) the amazing journey of Bryce as a “mom-like creature”

This was a love letter to parental figures everywhere as much as a love story between Bryce and Ryker. As a mom who is constantly juggling and trying to remind myself I am the best mama for my boys, it hit me right in the feels to follow Bryce’s journey. I loved the sweetness, the dirty jokes, and the loving families that showed up for one another.

Check this one out if you are looking for:

🚗 Mental Health Rep (PTSD)
🚗 Parental “like creatures” doing their best
🚗 Sassy kiddos like a tinkerbell wannabe and a surly teen
🚗 A MMC who buys feminine products
🚗 Supportive family that teach you to ask for the help you need

Change of Plans was such a wholesome read and something that I really needed at the time. The two main characters are some of the strongest ones I’ve ever encountered on my reading journey. The very real topics of mom like creatures and a PTSD infused veteran made the story so special. There were such cute moments that actually made me tear up and I welcomed it with my entire body. There’s something so special about reading a book where a part is so sweet that you start to get emotional, this book did that perfectly! I will definitely recommend this book to people who just need a wholesome read with an amazing plot line infused.

When my friend Jordān asked me to be a part of her traveling ARC team for this book, I happily agreed for two reasons. One being it’s a super cool concept that the ARC travels to the teams one by one, each person reads it & then we’re able to sign the old school library checkout tag in the back upon completion & sending it to the next reader! Second being that Dylan Newton is a new to me author, and I’m always excited to find another new author to enjoy!

Change of Plans fit the bill for me & was exactly what I had hoped it would be! A feel good story, layered with various complexities and soul-searching, that makes it hard to not fall in love with the characters on their journey.

Exploring themes of grief, differing family structures, PTSD, parenting & relationships - this book is packed full of content that represents all of these different themes beautifully.

Be sure to snag a copy of Change of Plans, which publishes on 8.1.2023 - you won’t regret it! 🩷
