This is an enemies to lovers story set in the Georgian era. I usually read Regency era books, so this was a nice change and I felt the author did a nice job with the descriptions of the scenes and bringing the story and characters to life. Persephone was raised in Bombay, and is now reluctantly joining London society. Instead of attending balls, she would much rather spend her time riding horses in the countryside. When she meets Christopher on one of her morning rides, the sparks fly strong, and it's hate at first sight. They can't help but go at each other every time they meet. But because of their mutual love of horses, they are drawn together and their mutual dislike changes over to respect and they eventually start to warm towards each other.
The character development was well done and the plot flowed smoothly. The chemistry between Persephone and Christopher was evident from the start and I enjoyed the witty banter between the two. The added element of a kidnapping plot made this to be a very intriguing read, indeed! I enjoyed this very much and am glad to have had the opportunity to read it.
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
This was an adorable story that kept me laughing. Persephone reminds me so much of myself. Her love of animals and somewhat reckless adventures made this more than a love story. I highly recommend Just Desserts for a fun, romantic (but clean) read for anyone who loves historical romances and animals.
4 STARS!!!
Just Deserts is the very definition of 'enemies-to-lovers'. Chid and Seph are victims of hate at first sight, and it was difficult to see in the beginning how this pair of horse-lovers may ever reconcile with each other. However, the author has done an amazing job writing these two and their chemistry is undeniable and absolutely fiery. Throw in some great side characters (Fitz!!) and an intriguing kidnapping plot, and you've got an enthralling read on your hands!
My thanks to the author, the publishers and NetGalley for this ARC!
Interestingly enough, I only just learned the difference between the Georgian era and the Regency era, and that is thanks to this book! As such, I paid attention to the differences within this story than I am used to seeing in historical romances set within the Regency period.
For the most part, I enjoyed the plot of the story. I found the writing style to be compelling and the overall character development of the main characters was cohesive to the plot. At times, however, the pacing was bit off. I couldn't say it was too slow or too fast because it had both aspects in different parts of the story.
All in all, I would rate this a 3.5/5 starts but will round up to 4 as it I think it is more at the higher end than at the lower.
ARC provided by Sapere Books via NetGalley, and I have given my honest and voluntary review.
Dragged away from the freedom of Bombay and her beloved horses to have a season in London, Persephone is frankly rebellious - and it shows in her hell-for-leather morning riding in the park. Baron Chiddingly loves horses and is horrified by this virago he's met in the park. Sparks fly as hot tempers clash, but as they are forced to spend time together in society, their love of horses brings them together. In fact, if they ever manage to stop yelling at each other for long enough, they might even find they like each other...
I enjoyed this, as I've come to expect of this author's books, but it wasn't my favourite, for a couple of reasons. First, while it's probably still what I'd call clean, it flirts with the line a little more than I like. There's certainly no sex, but there are one or two somewhat warm scenes and it can get somewhat suggestive. Second, particularly in the early parts of the book, their detestation feels a bit too violent - whether for what it turns into, for realism, or for my liking, I can't quite decide. All that said, I did enjoy some of the scenes with Persephone when she was being less extreme. I also particularly enjoy some of the scenes with Penelope, and it definitely made for a good secondary romance. All in all, a good read, but, as I say, not my favourite.
Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.
This was so dreamy. I typically like regency mote so than Georgian but this had me hooked. I was trapped from the beginning til the end, I had to know what was going to happen next. Loved it!

A sweet and entertaining read. The story is entertaining, funny and easy to follow, the characters are likeable and have a great connection. A great and relaxing read after busy day.
JUST DESERTS by ELIZABETH BAILEY, is a delightful read which takes place in eighteenth century England in and around London and Cambridgeshire, with a feisty heroine and her sweet and demure identical twin sister, an angry baron and his rather foppish friend, some villainous characters, plenty of intrigue and horses galore. I love the scenes at Newmarket where racehorse owners compete against one another, showing off their magnificent animals…..
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Sapere Books. The opinions in this review are completely my own.
Baron Christopher Chiddingly first encounter with Miss Persephone Winsford was full of bickering, they dont like each other very much. When meet again in one ocassion, Chiddingly growl and little bit rude and he confuse she not pierce like first encounter. Surprise surprise they are twin! Persephone and Penelope. I laugh during their fight, it is always thing to fight between them. And there sweet Penelope who aim her eye to Fitz, Chiddingly friend.
Thank you to NetGalley for provide this book, it is pleasure to review this book.

I really enjoyed this book! Firstly, it's very funny, full of atrocious behaviour... and horses! What's not to like.
We have our core family, recently returned from India. A bit of a mix up of identities, two potential couples, horse theft, skullduggery, robbery... all sorts.
It's a badly behaved Georgette Heyer and I most enjoyed myself.
Received an ARC from Netgalley.
A feisty heroine a horse race loving Baron, interesting secondary characters who also fall in love and a villain up to no good to be caught and it's all linked to horse racing one of my favourite things. While a fan of the author's Lady Fan series this is one of the first of her romance books I have read and I loved it. It also unsurprisingly has a mystery to solve. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
