i love a good enemies/rivals to lovers but the one thing that really gets on my nerves is when the enemies is giving. nothing. and it's practically insta love despite the supposed enemies?? idk it worked okay for the story plot soooo kudos to the author?
while the story itself was fine, like i def devoured the book ! i just think there could've been better execution of it. like the last section of the book was wayyyyy too fast paced. it def overwhelmed me, esp since the first like what 50 60% of the novel was giving no development no building up just natalie and henry going from kissing to hating each other in seconds and then it just slammed us in the face with natalie going off w second male lead mr wes.
tysm to netgalley for gifting me a drc for a honest review !
I wanted to like this book and I really tried to fully be present while reading it but it wasn't my jam. It was a slow read and a bit messy. Characters were kind of mean. Just not for me
This book had a fun feel. I enjoyed the magic and the world-building of this book. And the teenage angst was spot on
I LOVED this book, did not put it down until I finished and will absolutely be buying the physical version so I can read it again and again !! The two main characters were so interesting, I kept reading because of them. I cannot wait to read more from this author!
There was so much potential within the premise and the description - but overall, this didn't quite hit the mark for me. I think that the plot development felt lacking in places, and too quick in others.
I can still see the potential, but not sure if I would re-read or pick up any sequels.
Let me start by saying you have to give this one some time, it takes a bit to get accustomed to the main character and the abilities that some of the characters in this book have.
That being said, this book is intriguing, the premise sucked me in right away and I have to say it didn't disappoint, having the ability to see things and to know things that no one else knows, it's got to mess with your head, and I guess that's where those meetings come in.
If I'm being honest I would have liked a tad bit more in the romance department but this is a solid four-star book for me and I'll be reading book two in the series soon.
Thank you to NetGalley and Mogul Scarf Productions for providing a copy of this e-book, I have voluntarily read and reviewed it and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I was instantly intrigued by the front cover and the premise of the book and it didn't disappoint. It was everything I wanted in a paranormal romance and much more, it was very slightly steamy but I think it could have gone harder if I'm honest
This was such a thrilling paranormal romance!! The book itself is very well written and I felt like I was at the school with them. Definitely recommend for upper YA or NA fans.
Thanks to NG and the publisher for along me access to this story.
I liked the idea of this book, I was excited to read it as it seemed right up my alley but for some reason I never really got into it sadly.
I wasn't overly keen on the characters and the ending did kind of sway me for a book two but I don't think I will be picking it up, I'm not entirely sure what it was about it but sadly just not for me.
It takes a bit to get accustomed to the voice of the MCs, but if you can deal with that, it is a pleasant world to read about. The voice reminds me of the very popular Crave series: a bit underdeveloped and overly dependent on telling and not showing.
Aside from that, I am a sucker for an elite boarding school, fantasy elements, and romance. If those are elements you are normally invested in, this is for you.
I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. This book gave teenage drama with a paranormal twist. It follows a couple of teenager named Natalie and Henry. Natalie is kind of just doing as she is expected to with Jack. Then she meets Henry who she keeps being drawn back to. Henry sees that she is going to be hurt and saves. There was a lot of drama, mystery, twists and turns in this book. It has me craving more and more. The next book can't come fast enough.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with this book.
I LOVED this book. I could not put it down and it has fallen into the category of: books I still think about, even though it has been s9me time since I originally read them. I love a good boarding school setting and this book did not disappoint, The two main characters were so interesting: I am so excited to see what happens next.
DNF'd at 50%. The characters were just awful- though well written. I read there was a cliffhanger and I really wanted to make it to that, but I just couldnt.
I had such a hard time getting into this one, despite the characters not being overly horrible, I just didn't connect. Maybe it's just the timing of trying to read it and it just didn't grab me the way I want my books to do so.
All in all, I can see this being a great story if it grabs you, but for me, I found myself skimming the second half and thankful when it was over so I could move on to something else.
Thank you to netgalley for the advanced reading copy of control by Melissa cassera. This was a pretty good fantasy ya. Reminded me of crave in a sense but not vampires of course. Our male main character Henry was a seer basically and kept seeing visions about the girl nat and wasn't sure what to do about them
I did enjoy it very much.
I didn't really enjoy this one. Most of the characters were just horrible and frankly cruel. Such a shame as the story had brilliant potential and a great start.
This is going to be an amazing series, I can feel it!! It is so good, it is an easy read and gets you hooked right from the start and is a whole lot of crazy
The really good thing about this one is that while it was crazy and all over -- it all worked together. You weren't confused on what was going on and it all fit perfectly together.
it mayyyy or may not end in a cliffhanger as well, so be ready! This freaking ending. Join me in counting down to the next one too, am i right!?
Thank you to Melissa and NetGalley for the Advanced copy of this one!
i sadly could not get into this book and ended up DNFing it at around the 50% mark. i always like to give books a chance and if i can’t get into it by then, then i’ll have to give it a skip. i wasn’t a big fan of the characters and it reminded me too much of a different book. it was also filled with cliches at certain points. BUT, i am willing to come back and try this book again at a later date! i am very much a mood reader and it could have been that i was simply was not in the mood for this book at the time.
as always, just because i do not like a book, it does not mean that someone else will not love it, and because of that, i will recommend this book if you are a fan of YA paranormal romance.
thank you for allowing me to read this book on netgalley.
This book is the first in a new series. Overall, the book started out slow with a lovable heroin, however as the story progressed she became difficult to relate to. She is almost gullible at times, as she is willing to believe a person as honest even if they haven’t proven themselves to be over someone she has a relationship with. She only trusts the person that she is presently with. The main male character is endearing, however indecisive he may be. He also tends to make decisions that are self destructive. Overall a solid first book and I can’t wait to read the next one.
Rating: 3/5
The author described this book as a YA paranormal romance that feels like a 2010's TV show and that is true, but not in a good way. It has every cringey cliché trope from that era such as: girl with a DEAD MOM who has a father that can't bear to look at her because she reminds him of her mother and it's just too hard so he pushes her away (did I mention her mom is dead?), and a love interest who isn't like other guys with their prep school polo shirts (also known as their school uniform) and money and social skills (ugh, you're a sociable guy? what a DICK.), and an (ex) boyfriend who also SUCKS but they're childhood friends so he has a soft spot for her oh wait never mind no he doesn't because he's literally being terrible to her but it's not his fault because their rich businessman fathers set up their relationship at the age of five so he can't be blamed (yes he can). There were so many things that made me roll my eyes so hard it was painful, but my biggest complaint is that I was bored out of my mind. You cannot compare a book to Gossip Girl and then make it mind numbingly boring. I don't even know how this book was so boring because there was a murder attempt, then a kidnapping, then imprisonment, etc. but I was yawning the entire time and started skimming pages to try to get it over with faster.
