I love a good cowboy contemporary romance. Unfortunately, this anthology fell flat in two of the three short stories included.
My review will be for Rebecca Zanetti’s Rescue: Rancher Style.
Greg Simpson returns to his hometown of Redemption to care for his troubled niece and two nephews after his brother’s unexpected death. The children’s gold-digging stepmother has her eyes on their heritage, a cattle ranch, and is determined to take Greg to court to get custody of the kids and by default, the land. His only option? Asking his ex- the woman who broke his heart- to give the judge a character reference on his behalf- no problem.
Tara couldn’t believe it when the one-time love of her life shows up to rescue her after a run-in with the ditch after she avoids hitting the town’s mascot, a giant gray wolf.
He’d worn his black boots, dark jeans, and a white button-down shirt to church, and he looked every inch the long and lean cowboy he’d become. Yet the edge was still there in his movements and in his eyes when he flicked them her direction. His time as a soldier had marked him hard, and she was positive she didn’t know half of it.
Palmer, Diana. He’s My Cowboy (Kindle Locations 1474-1477). Kindle Edition.
Greg looks good, too good. He stirs up a lot of memories she’d rather not revisit, but as a teacher, there’s nothing she wouldn’t do to help the three Simpson children and it has nothing to do with their too-handsome uncle.
Learning to live with three teens isn’t easy but when his rebellious niece disappears, the family, including Tara, band together to bring her home.
This is a wonderful family story. Sometimes, out of the pain of loss, a new road can open.
I enjoyed all three books. I'd give4 stars to Diana Palmer's and Rebecca Zanetti's stories. The Delores Fossen book I would give a three. I would have liked more information about the group of men who play a part in the Zanetti book. Her book was somewhat dark.
He’s My Cowboy by Diana Palmer, Rebecca Zanetti, and Delores Fossen has three novellas in the book. The stories always make cowboys hot and exciting! Meet Gil, Greg and Theo.
THE HAWK’S SHADOW by Diana Palmer is about Deputy Gill. He is the newest sheriff’s investigator and is up against an old murder. The body is decomposed and quite frankly no one can remember who went missing at that time. Gil knows he needs help and a forensic anthropologist shows up to help. She is persnickety, impatient and not well liked, but Gil needs her help. As the investigation continues, she grows on him and he on her. I loved the scene when she meets Gil’s pet. However, Gil needs to get his decision making in order and not let this opportunity go!
RANCHER STYLE by Rebecca Zanetti was about Greg and Tara. Greg has had to quit the military and move home to take care of his two nephews and one niece. However, they were a handful and he needed help. Tara is a local English teacher and is coerced into helping. Sparks fly as does some teenage behaviors and interesting situations! You really are rooting for Tara and Greg, even when he was clueless.
A COWBOY KIND OF ROMANCE by Delores Fossen brings us Brenna coming home from the military to all kinds of secrets. Her family left Theo to tell her all about it - her first true love. The family drama is seriously twisted with so many interesting situations and characters. Brenna and Theo need each other, as soon as they figure that out!
The novellas were good reads in the book He’s My Cowboy.
I just reviewed He's My Cowboy by Diana Palmer; Rebecca Zanetti; Delores Fossen it was great really enjoyed it so much.
Three great short stories all with the theme of cowboys, romance and small town communities. The last two have the main characters reconnecting and I thought the backstories were well covered. Each one was easy to read and to get into. There was danger, love, romance and lots of steamy scenes! If you’re looking for stories that are short and romantic but also with some serious issues, ie murder and people trafficking these will be great for you. I thoroughly enjoyed all three. Thanks to Kensington Books and Netgalley for the ARC.
He’s My Cowboy contains three short stories by amazingly talented authors that are sure to find a place in your heart. Each story has its own unique flavour with interesting plots, and suspense and intrigue thrown into the mix. While this should have been a 5 star collection overall, unfortunately Rescue: Ranger Style by Rebecca Zanetti was my least favourite of the three due to an overbearing and arrogant hero and only worth 3.5 stars in my opinion.
Three great cowboy stories by authors who are expert in this field. Good feel stories with likeable characters. Looking forward to more by these three.
He's My Cowboy by Diana Palmer, Rebecca Zanetti, Delores Fossen
THE HAWK’S SHADOW * Diana Palmer
RESCUE: RANCHER STYLE * Rebecca Zanetti
A COWBOY KIND OF ROMANCE * Delores Fossen
The first two books are 5* and the third is 4* so I rate the total 41/2 stars.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Happily Ever After Romantic Witty Tear-jerker Wonderful characters Entertaining Easy-to-read Steamy.
This anthology contains 3 novellas by 3 popular authors. The stories were all OK, not terrible, not great. I really don't know what to say about them because they were all kinda blah. Diana Palmer's story is the typical Diana Palmer - sassy virgin heroine & gun-shy hero, who of course screws up. Rebecca Zanetti's story was Ok, but the hero was an a***ole. And the story by Delores Fossen was just wrong. So, for a quick read it was all right. None of these stories were the best of the author's writings.
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC.
A book that has three stories in it, with the first being a mystery when remains are found and an investigator calls Denver for an Anthropologist for help. First, they are snippy when she arrives but later they find that they have many likes, will it turn into romance or will she be alone once again? A good story.
The next book has an uncle ex-Marine home after his brother dies to raise three teenagers, two boys, and a girl. He is also dealing with a past love that he left behind when he was younger a mistake on his part. This is a really good story.
The last book has an Air Force Captain returning home after being gone for twelve years only to find out that her younger sister is pregnant and engaged, engaged to the brother of the man who broke her heart when he walked away to go ride bulls, now he is home as well because a bull won and busted his knee. A lot going on in this book but a good story. All are good stories.
3 great cowboy stories by 3 great authors. It doesn’t matter what style they are writing, they will always keep you interested. So have fun with these, some will bring a smile to your face.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own
He's My Cowboy is a novella length anthology by three accomplished popular writers: Diana Palmer; Rebecca Zanetti; and Delores Fossen. It is worth the read even if only one of them is a favorite of yours. If by chance they are new authors for you this is a great opportunity ot check out their writing style.
The Hawk’s Shadow by Diana Palmer was a surprising read. It reads as if it belongs to a series, but I can’t say for sure. Undersheriff Gil Barnes was my favorite character in this story with the town worker repairing a water break, leading to a skeleton under the pipe. Accidental or murder is part of the mystery. Interesting romance for Gil that comes from this. 4 Stars
Rescue: Rancher Style by Rebecca Zanetti is my favorite of the three novellas. Three wayward teenagers and a ranch is not tougher than this former Marine You know what they say, once a Marine, always a Marine, Greg Simpson is up to the task. He gets a second chance at love with schoolteacher, Tara Webber too. 5 Stars
A cowboy Kind of Romance by Delores Fossen has Captain Brenna O’Sullivan returning home to Loveland, Texas after leaving the Air Force. This story has family drama including meddling along with a second chance at love. 4 Stars
A good anthology that showcases each author’s style and the characters they create.
An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is a novella from three author, have the same theme "Cowboy" and second chance romance.
THE HAWK’S SHADOW by Diana Palmer
Gil and Nemara already bickering from first encounter, snarl at each other, throw sarcastic around. When they start to know each other and foubd have so much in common everything fall into a place. I like to know how forensic proces and different type in forensic.
“I’ve never fit in, anywhere, in my whole life,” she confessed quietly.
Me too girl, me too.
RESCUE: Rancher Style by Rebecca Zanetti
When universe want two old flame to reunion, it make everything happend. From the wolf lead to hearing at the court then a wedding. The spark still there between Greg and Tara. I love reading how Greg face three teenages and solve the trouble their causes.
A Cowboy Kind of Romance by Delores Fossen
This is so fun when a whole twon try to matchmaking Brenna and Theo. Both family want them reconcile, Brenna and Theo need to forgive each other, clearly the flame still there. Both of them have problem with change in career and try to cheer each other.
Thank you to NetGalley for provide this book, it is pleasure to review this book.

He’s my cowboy is an anthology by Diana Palmer, Rebecca Zanetti and Delores Fossen. The stories are contemporary and totally independent from each other, not linked by a common thread. As much as I’ve already read (a lot) Diana Palmer and Rebecca Zanetti, I don’t remember having ever read Delores Fossen, translated in French by Harlequin France.
The Hawk’s shadow by Diana Palmer
The story takes place in Benton, Colorado, where the discovery of the remains of a skeleton leads up the hero, Gil Barnes, deputy sheriff, to call upon the Denver investigation unit to get the help of a medico-legal archeologist. It’s Nemara Landreth, our heroine, who is sent. Freshly graduated, she is not accepted by all her colleagues, especially because of her family. Even if Gil and Nemara are immediately attracted to each other, the meeting doesn’t go well because of the heroine’s very haughty attitude. She explains why later but at this stage I was already fed up with both of them.
I know Diana Palmer very well and at one point I really loved all her stories, especially in her Long, tall Texans series. However for the past several years I have had a lot of trouble with her writing style that needs proofreading. Either she thinks she does not need it, or her editor thinks it’s not necessary… in any case there would be less repetitions and contradictions with a proofreader.
What’s more, Diana Palmer (published since 1979) has discovered new technologies and social medias. That’s good. But perhaps it’s not necessary to show her scientific knowledge to show she has changed with her time. I regularly rolled my eyes.
And finally the story is meant to have a romantic suspense side with investigation, plot twists, and the discovery of the murderer only in the end. This aspect is so badly done that I knew before the end of the first chapter who was guilty. What’s more, the author adds some supernatural elements. “Rolling my eyes again.”
You will ask me: is there something I liked in it? Yes, there was, but only after thinking we’re talking about Diana Palmer, she’s been writing for a very long time, and I should be more magnanimous LOL.
Rescue : ranger style de Rebecca Zanetti
Rescue: ranger style by Rebecca Zanetti
It’s the fourth novella in the series I’ve called Rescue, the other have been published in the anthologies Pivot, Lone wolf and Peril.
The heroine, Tara Webber, is already present in the previous novella and we know she has begun to see a man her friends don’t really appreciate. Here she’s beginning to doubt her choices, just when she meets Greg Simpson, the hero, again.
They were in love and were together before he joined the army. While they didn’t mean to split, he broke up with her before recanting. However, at this time, with her already being in couple with another man, it was too late. The young man’s reaction then rubbed me the wrong way.
He’s now back in Redemption. After his brother’s death, he got custody of his nephews and niece. The atmosphere was already complicated between him and these young persons who have lost all their bearings, but what’s more her ex-stepsister (who’s not the mother) wants to get custody of the children in order to have their inheritance in her grasp.
In theory he doesn’t have any time to devote to a love story. But particular circumstances get them together and force them to cooperate for the sake of the children.
This story is my favorite in the anthology but it’s not my favorite from the author because some points especially annoyed me. Among them: the urge to shake the heroes because of their lack of communication, but also Greg who was too pigheaded about some points.
Positive point: we see again characters already mentioned in the previous volumes – heroes as secondary characters, which makes me think the latter will have their story. For now, I’m especially waiting for Cami and Zachary. I hope Rebecca Zanetti will not wait too long to write it.
A cowboy kind of romance de Delores Fossen
If I had had the slightest idea to test this author one day, I can say this novella made me change my tune about this idea. A cowboy kind of romance is a story I didn’t understand at all. It was well written, not many repetition unlike Diana Palmer’s story. Let’s say it was just… crap. Several times I was about to give up, which takes the cake as it’s a novella LOL.
The heroes were deeply in love but Theo Cameron, our hero, decided to break up with Brenna O’Sullivan, the heroine, at the end of high school because he wanted to make a career in rodeo, without her. Brenna then joined the Air Force.
The story begins when she comes back in her hometown. While she’s not ready to see Theo again and thought she had some time, she receives messages from her family saying she has to go to Theo’s ranch. There she goes from bad to worse with the news she learns from the hero himself.
Not only she has to take them in her stride, but what’s more her whole family campaign for her to reconnect with her childhood love.
I absolutely hated all the characters – the heroes a bit less but not by much. I didn’t understand why they were insisting so much on Brenna and Theo reconnecting, but especially without taking into consideration the fact they are adults and able to decide what they want to do. Worse, in this story, our “heroes” are so passive! They act as though they don’t have any choice.
In short, I think you’ll have understood why I had trouble reading it in full. It was really an exhausting reading not lively at all.
To conclude, this anthology will attract two genres of readers: those who are fan of Diana Palmer and those who are fans of Rebecca Zanetti. I’m not sure though that they will love it. As for me, I don’t recommend it to those who are not part of these groups.
I don't read a ton of straight simple contemporary romance. all 3 of these novellas are "small town romances". alas this book ended up being an example of why -- sometimes I just can't step back enough and go with what ever flow the story is putting out there enough to truly enjoy the story. I've only read Palmer once before and based upon it and this, her writing style isn't for me. I liked her characters well enough, but the pace was slow and plot such that I wasn't able to care what was happening. this was the 1st Fossen story I've read and seemed to be trying to go for a rom com feel but just had me shaking my head as wasn't feeling the rom or the com (ended up DNF'ing the story @ 50%). the story by Zanetti (the main reason for wanting to read the book) was by far the best of the 3 for me and it wasn't one of her best in my opinion. It was a blend of tropes -- 2nd chance/marriage of convenience/trouble teens/misunderstanding-poor communication. other than wanting to put everyone (particularly the H/H) thru and intensive course on how to properly communicate with others, the story was well blended between the tropes, decent pacing and relaxing & satisfying read
I received an electronic ARC from Kensington Books through NetGalley.
Three romances in one book. A light read for a quick escape.
The Hawk's Shadow by Palmer
Reader meet a sheriff's investigator adjusting to his new role and a new forensic archeologist who struggles to interact with others due to shyness. They clash and then find out how much they have in common. Then Gil does something foolish and has to figure out that he wants a relationship. Palmer is a master at this format and readers see a happy ending and long life together.
Rescue: Rancher Style by Zanetti
His brother's unexpected death brings Greg home from the Marines to care for his niece and nephew. He also has to face the young woman he left behind. Tara still feels an attraction but does not want to be hurt again. They are pushed into marriage so he can keep the kids and the ranch. Zanetti brings in real life topics - teen drinking, anger management, anxiety, struggles to communicate and boldly adds human trafficking to show how easily it can happen. They find their way as a family of five by the end.
A Cowboy Kind of Romance by Fossen
This was the fluffiest of the three. Readers see an Air Force Captain return to her hometown to change her career to local law enforcement. She knows she will have to face the man who dropped her for a rodeo career but didn't think it would happen as the first person she met. Turns out her sister is marrying his brother and they want the two of them to be at the altar too. Plenty of humorous matchmaking and an obvious attraction between them. Fear of being hurt again keep them both from acting on their feelings until they actually talk and resolve the past. A light, humorous look at love and relationships.
What’s not to love? Three novellas by great authors and sexy cowboys to boot. Each story a fast page turning read. Second chance love, matchmakers galore, finding your soulmate and realizing what is most important in one’s life. Yes I have a favorite, RESCUE: RANCHER STYLE by REBECCA ZANETTI was action packed and very realistic, plus part of a series I have read. The other two were sweet romances to finding their HEA.
Thank you NetGalley for this eARC. I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story. #NetGalley #HesMyCowboy
Let’s be honest, they’re all my cowboy from sheriff cowboys to ex-military cowboys to rodeo star cowboys. The three novellas over you several boyfriends to enjoy (one each night for me). Diana Palmer offered adorkable characters (4 stars), Rebecca Zanetti gave us characters working through family upheaval (3.5 stars) and Delores Fossen provided family meddling (4 stars). Quick and enjoyable reads.
THE HAWK’S SHADOW * Diana Palmer* Diana Palmer
Two and a half stars.
No character connection and the mystery subplot is so easy to solve. RANCHER STYLE * Rebecca Zanetti
Three stars.
A second-chance romance with mature characters.
A COWBOY KIND OF ROMANCE * Delores Fossen
Two stars.
Childish to an absurd degree from the beginning to the end of the book.
I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
These three short stories are filled with what I call Quirky but lovable romances on a ranch. I definitely love a ranch themed romance and while they do have some unique and sometimes unrealistic storylines they do have their charm.
You will go from snakes to second chances made to marry romance to returning home to your ex and major family issues and changes. Hold on for the ride with this one.
