This story had a good concept that didn’t fully come together for me. We know that Cleo is choosing to implode her own life, which seems to be going well, and we find out why through chapters dispersed throughout the current timeline that provide us the background that leads to her current situation.
At its heart, this is a tale of obsession, which I found fascinating (though it took a while to get there), but then so much other stuff started happening with murders and revenge that this primary theme that I wanted to learn more about got buried. Not much happens in the first half of the book and then SO MUCH happens in the last couple of chapters that it was somewhat jarring; and the end, while twisty, left me with unanswered questions. I did like some of the characters, especially Sidney, but felt that a good story became a little fantastical when all was said and done.
Overall, this wasn’t my favorite but I did like the concept and appreciated many of the characters. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to Net Galley & Hachette books for an ARC of this book.
Being completely honest this book was a disaster to read. It was painful to continue reading when the POV flipped back and forth between the past and present. The characters were all unlikeable, and just so many unnecessary writing was included in this book. The authors writing style was just not for me.
The story focuses on Cleo and her current husbands divorce, as well as her past lover Heath. The way it jumps around with timing, is confusing to say the least.
I wish I had chosen to DNF this but I kept pushing on thinking maybe it would revive itself in the end. The ending was horrible, and still left unanswered questions.
My Other Husband
This page turner about obsession and lies has exciting twists and turns. Great surprise ending!
I do think Dorothy Koomson has a lot of great ideas. I like how she fits in what I think must be her thoughts about being a professional in the world in her books no matter what the plot. I thought the idea was solid--its like the worst-case scenario of that guy who liked you a little more than you liked him back in college--but the end sort of devolved. I think it would have been better if the story was more linear. I know that's not popular now but I think it would have worked, the growing horror of what was going on would have been more pronounced. Still, I'm always happy to read what she is up to next.
My Other Husband had me guessing up until the very end! The novel starts with our main character Cleo looking to get a divorce and ending her TV series. You wonder why she is uprooting her life when it appears she is still in love with her husband and her show is successful. Then people close to her start dying in ways very similar to the characters on her show. Someone is trying to frame her for murder, but who and why? The book alternates between the present and also in Cleo’s past which focuses on her relationship through college and 20’s with a man named Heath. The first part is a little slow as we, the reader, still are not sure why Cleo is so intent on divorcing her husband and quitting the TV show but as we learn more about her past, the answer becomes clear. I quickly devoured the book in one sitting as I had to know what was going to happen! I will definitely add more Dorothy Koomson books to my reading list!

Insanely messy formatting. Confusing writing that was all over the place. I couldn't tell up from down here.
This was a really slow burner. Too slow for my taste. I also feel that the story was all over the place. The storyline was good but something was off. I couldn’t connect with characters. It was just ok.

Cleo Forsum is a famous writer. Her bestselling series of a baking detective is a hit television show. She is happily married and living the life she dreamed of, until one day she is not.
With little fanfare. Cleo ends the series, ends her job (and the work provided for an entire network show) and tells her husband she wants a divorce. Everyone around her is confused and unhappy but Cleo is driven to take these actions - before something very bad happens.
Through a series of flashbacks we begin to learn who Cleo and her friends were and what choices they made in the past that are haunting their very future. If you love a domestic thriller, a twisty story, or love a sympathetic heroine, My Other Husband is for you!#MyOtherHusband #DorothyKoomson #Hachette
