The Surgeon was a good read by Leslie Wolfe. Anne Wiley is a very successful surgeon. She is married to her college sweetheart who is a lawyer. She has never lost a patient on the operating table until today. When she calls the time of death, her colleagues are hushed around her, confused, and concerned. She never found herself hating a patient until she saw the man on her operating table. Now she questions if she killed him and if anyone else knows. I enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to read more by the author.

After his heart refuses to beat, she wonders If she killed her patient, allowed him to die. You see, he wasn’t just any patient. He was the man that abused her sister. I absolutely love a good narrator and a clever mystery plot. For me, Leslie Wolfe always delivers. Having read the Detective Kay Sharp, I knew Leslie Wolfe can write really good plots and I take this opportunity to encourage murder mystery book lovers to read the series. This book did not disappoint: the subject intrigued me as it is not often surgeons are protagonists in this genre. We all like to think of our surgeons as unflappable, reliable machines that will not fail, particularly if you are the next patient in need of an operation! So, unless you are about to have a major operation, I thoroughly recommend this amazing book narrated by Gwendolyn Druyor.

Anne, a cardiologist, who has never lost a patient, recognizes her patient when his heart won't restart after the surgery and decides to call time of death early. Could she have saved his life if she had continued to try to resuscitate him or did she deliberately let him die once she realized he was responsible for her sister's death? Paula, meanwhile, who works for the State Attorney's Office, has been waiting for Anne to make a mistake so you she can set her plan in motion. Great listening material, good narrator.

I was approved for the book the same day it was archived so was unable to read it as an ARC but will try to get it soon.

The Surgeon is a psychological crime novel full of twists. The protagonist is Anne Whiley, a cardiothoracic surgeon whose patient dies on her operating table. This has never happened before, but she recognised the man and can’t be sure she did everything in her power to save him. When the State’s Attorney Office begins investigating the death, Anne becomes increasingly worried about her career and increasingly paranoid about those around her.
Fans of this genre will probably enjoy this novel, unfortunately it was a little far fetched for me with a slightly too dramatic narrator and a slow pace.

I loved this psychological thriller!

The story is about Dr Anne Wiley, who is a heart surgeon. One day, her patient dies while she is performing a heart operation on him. Did she murder him, or was it an accident?

Also in the story, we have Paula Fuselier, who is a lawyer who is out to get Anne. Will she succeed?

I really enjoyed this book, especially with the awesome narrator, who did a great job. I found the book shocking, thrilling, unique, fast paced, crazy and full of drama and suspense.

If you love crazy psychological thrillers with a medical twist, then you will love this book. Highly recommended!

Many thanks to the author/narrator, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

This book kept me guessing until the end. The characters were well thought out and complex. Although fiction, it serves as a good reminder of the damage that can be caused from keeping secrets. Fingers crossed there is a sequel.

DNF. My dad had an intense open heart surgery last year and the descriptions of surgery made me incredibly squeamish and upset, so I felt I couldn't go on. It wasn't super graphic, I'm just sensitive to this at the moment. The audiobook did seem fascinating, well-written, and well-narrated. I may try to listen to this one again when I'm in a different headspace. Thank you to the publisher for providing this audiobook.

The Surgeon is a standalone thriller by Leslie Wolfe.

Wow! This fast read had me on the edge of my seat and gave me the creeps (in a good way). Just when I thought I had the mystery figured out there was more revealed and more left to be uncovered.

I loved how twisted this book was. The characters were engaging and absolutely fascinating!

The narration by Gwendolyn Druyor was amazing!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

"The Surgeon" by Leslie Wolfe is a suspenseful thriller that follows the story of a successful heart surgeon who has never lost a patient in surgery- until now.

As the story unfolds, we are introduced to a diverse cast of characters, each with their own secrets and motives. The author does a great job of weaving these storylines together, keeping the reader guessing until the very end.

While I enjoyed the twists and turns of the plot, and the well-developed characters, I did find the graphic descriptions of surgery to be a bit much at times. This may not be a book for the faint of heart. Overall, "The Surgeon" is a well-written and suspenseful thriller that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy.

This wasn’t exactly as I expected. This book is listed as a psychological thriller and there is some of this in the book, but this should have really been categorized as a fictional drama. I typically don’t read that genre if it is listed as such.

I feel like I had a love/hate relationship with this book. I listened to the audiobook version and that may have been my first mistake. Listening to the narrator read the MC Anne’s chapters drove me crazy since it was so whiny and it really made her sound like a weak character. Maybe that was the intent, but she is supposed to be a top female surgeon. Then the book was far too repetitive for me. It made the story drag on.

I also struggled with how stressful this book was. I understand this is fiction, but there are so many situations that happened in this book that couldn’t have been remediated very quickly. I know that wouldn’t have made a story if that happened, but this just made the book frustrating.

My biggest gripe was the end. This is probably the worst outcome I could have pictured. This is the ending you would expect in a drama, but not a psychological thriller.

I did enjoy the plot and the twists. I just wish the book was a little less dramatic.

Thanks NetGalley and publisher for the digital copy in exchange for my honest review!

I really liked this story overall. I don't know if I'm sold on how it ended, I wish there was just a little bit more.
I listened to the audiobook, and I wasn't in love with the narration. For half of the book, I was convinced it was an A.I. recording and not a person. At times it sounded very digital, and I had a hard time with that so maybe reading instead of listening would have been better. Overall, I would recommend this book as the story was intense and really well thought out.

Dr. Anne Wiley is a highly accomplished surgeon with a successful career and a loving husband who is a lawyer. She is even the face of the hospital, featured on billboards all over the city. However, her perfect world is shattered when she loses a patient on the operating table for the first time and realizes that she knew the patient. This unexpected tragedy throws her into a chaotic world of uncertainty and self-doubt.

With so many unanswered questions, Anne finds herself in uncharted territory. Was it her fault? Does anyone else know? Will she be held accountable and face criminal charges or lose her job? The uncertainty takes a toll on her marriage, and Anne is left grappling with the realization that her life may never be the same again. She is forced to navigate a world where trust is scarce and she isn't even sure if she can trust herself.

Really enjoyed this one, fabulous on audio. The number of times I found myself stopping whatever I was doing at the time while listening just to go “OMG” or “WTF”.

For me this was a true thriller read, lots of suspense, really well built up with the perfect amount of hooks throughout.

A successful heart surgeon who in 12 years has never lost a patient, Anne is suddenly frozen mid-way through a delicate procedure. Her patient’s heart has refused to start beating but when she realises just who she is operating on, does she really want it to restart after all?

And so starts this fabulous roller coaster as we meet the other key players in this psychological thriller. Anne’s husband Derreck is a prominent attorney, gunning to be Mayor, he also happens to be having an affair with a fiery and ambitious District Attorney, Paula.

I truly disliked Paula so much - yes - I was actively yelling at a character wishing she would just shrivel up and die - lol.

Argh, it’s just so good. All three characters are super strong in their own right and the writing is just brilliant, you feel every emotion, frustration, annoyance leaping out of the page.

This is another one that is definitely better going into blind – it really helps as the shock moments are unveiled.
The only reason I gave this 4.5 stars instead of 5 is there were a couple of things at the end that frustrated me a little – I won’t say what because I don’t want to offer up any spoilers.

A truly great read. A huge thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to listen to The Surgeon.

Wow! Talk about tense and twisty! Full of intrigue and great characters, this is one you will NOT be able to put down. I sure couldn't! Great job, Leslie Wolfe!

Oh my, I was hooked from the start. A heart surgeon with a perfect record of saving her patients that loses her first one? Then we learn she recognized the patient. I wanted to know who, what, when, where and how. Was it an accident? Did she do it on purpose? How does she know him? I love when an author can stun me and in this one, she did. I won’t go into any details because of potential spoilers, but I am usually able to guess and limit things down to a few different guesses on the outcome and love when the outcome is something other than what I have suspected at some point.

I didn’t like the main character, Anne. Yet I still was invested in the story. That is a fine line to walk and this was well done. The complex story kept me guessing. As soon as I had an idea where it was headed, there was another layer or twist to change my thinking.

I both read and listened to this one, as time permitted and loved Gwendolyn Druyor’s narration. I think this is my first listen to one of her audiobooks and she kept me interested in the story.

I can’t wait to read Leslie Wolfe’s next novel and think if you like complex, unpredictable mysteries, this one is worth your time!

This book hooked me quickly. Anne is performing heart surgery and unfortunately has to declare her patient dead. But did the patient actually die? Or did she stop trying to resuscitate him too soon?

That is the question that her anesthesiologist post when he reports her. The book starts to go through the tangled web. Because she actually knows the patient. It has an unfortunate connection to him.

We also have the husband’s storyline running, and it makes it so much more complicated. He’s not trustworthy and he’s wrapped up in something that’s now affecting her. And the twist in this book, I did not see coming. Even the last sentence had me a little confused. But in a good way. It’s a fast pace quick thriller if you’re looking for a good read this weekend 👏🏻
