I'm definitely a beginner at drawing so I found it enlightening but even, sometimes, too difficult to apply to my little talent right now. Anyway to other it could more useful so I feel as this is a book to recommend.
Nice how to draw book that my students enjoy using when they finish their artwork and have some down time.
I really enjoyed following along with the Big School of Drawing. It helped me with some of my current techniques and was a great beginner to intermediate resource.
An amazing resource for first-time artists! This book will make it easy for beginners to take the first steps into drawing and sketching. I would definitely recommend this book - even for those already drawing as it was help turn your craft into something that looks more professional and experienced.
Loved this instructional book. A good variety of subjects and projects. Will definitely use it and recommend to others.
This is one of the better drawing books I've found since I began my art journey last year! I love the detailing of the sketches and the breakdown of the anatomy of things such as the cats. This is a must for any new artist or an artist looking to develop their detail a little further!
Interesting book for those who know something about sketching but want to learn more. Likely not for a novice sketch artist.
This book contains a lot of information on how to draw properly.
It starts with the basics but does also provide lots of information on how to get your draws looking very advanced.
I like these type of books which are short tutorials on drawing plants, trees, animals ,people and lots more. This book isn't glossy or has amazing or difficult drawings, but concentrates on the basics including shape, light, shadows, perspective, drawing from life, to drawing from photographs. But the greatest thing for me is the importance of learning to see, to really see.
I like this book, good for all ages and builds on skills time by time. Thanks you NetGalley and the publishers for the DRC
Great book, very simple to follow instructions, but we shall see if putting it into practice is as easy!
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
I’ve read a few books for beginners to drawing but this one seems a bit different to me. Yes it starts with the basics about pencils, charcoal, materials needed, and types of paper but it includes loads I haven’t come across in other books. We are straight into "proper drawing" but taken in stages and there is guidance about how to ‘look’ at things and think about the lighting on an object etc. The book is suitable for a real novice like me, without being patronising or too simplistic.
There is advice on foreshortening, perspective, composition… everything you need to improve as an artist. There’s also an accompanying workbook which I think I will get. Recommended for any age if you’d like to confidently have a go at drawing and don’t know where to start.
I was given a copy of this book by Netgalley
A really good reference guide for basic drawing skills. I think it would need supplementing with a more in-depth tutorial book/lessons, but once you've got the very basics down this book has many references for all manner of items
It's one I'll keep nearby for lots of use in the future!
I received an advance copy for free from NetGalley, on the expectation that I would provide an honest review.
This is such a great book to help those interested in drawing! Gives great tips and techniques. Instructions are easy to follow too!
Useful for beginners, covering a wide range of subjects that everyone wants to draw. With so many illustrations, the steps don't go into great detail, so it will take some practice to get the result you want. Overall it's a great book for learning a variety of skills. Recommend.
Very well laid out and straightforward in its instruction, with a comprehensive line of thought put behind the structure. A nice addition to any art section. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher.
Big School of Drawing : Well-explained, practice-oriented drawing instruction for the beginning artist is an excellent instruction manual for any beginner to intermediate artist wanting to draw life like pictures. There are lots of different subjects from animals, landscape, and lowers and the author explains materials textures and other tips and tricks. Even though the jump from one step to another in the instructions can be quite big it is still easily manageable by beginners. It is an extensive book that gives excellent results.
This is a great beginners book for learning the basics of drawing. It even has a cool guide that tells you what supplies you should obtain prior to practicing. Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for my honest feedback!
Excellent book that in addition to basic knowledge of artistic concepts, treats various subjects: landscape elements, still life, many animals and portraits. With the usual clarity and simplicity of other art instructional books of the editor, this one gives the necessary, richly illustrated information to beginner artists. Step-by-step tutorials show how to build up the forms, text and pictures help to understand the most important know-how. Highly recommended for budding artists.
