Big School of Drawing
By Walter Foster Creative Team
Walter Foster has been a name in my home since I was a child. My dad used these books for all his crafts and now, as an adult, I see why!
This book really has everything a beginner needs except the materials to write with, but it instructs you on what to get! The book describes materials needed, techniques used, and then an unbelievable amount of step-by-step instructions on how to draw just about anything! It also come with practice pages! This is the perfect beginner book! I dabble a bit but I am definitely going to buy this book! Another Walter Foster for my library!
I want to thank the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this amazing book!
The book delivers more it promises!
The basics are well explained. The tools are well documented. Here with this guidebook we are learning about drawing flowers, landscapes, animals, people and still life with simple but well detailed steps and techniques.
A must have. I feel like I have done a crash course on the very basics of drawing just reading this book!
Thank you, Quarto Publishing Group- Walter Foster Publishing, for the advance reading copy.
I can see how this could be useful to an artist who already has a lot of skills developed.
I think this was a little too advanced for me, but could be a good fit for the right artist.
I do think the cover is a bit odd, it’s not very inviting.
Very useful guidebook for learning how to draw. It has in depth explainations about different techniques and also step by step drawings. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow.
A one-stop shop for all the drawing needs! For students coming into a middle school looking to improve their artistic abilities, this book will be a valuable tool for them. Starting with explanations of tools, techniques, and the skills needed as well as step-by-step tutorials on a variety of drawing styles, this book will be wonderful for middle schoolers.
Beautiful book to teach how to draw many different things. Easy to follow steps, levels of difficulty, and presentation of book is beautifully put together,
This is a great all-round guide ti learning how to draw. The steps are really clear and concise. I do wish there was more variety in skin tone and look when it comes to the human faces. I feel like they were very same-y if that makes sense. It makes the book feel a little dated.
This book is a very comprehensive guide on how to draw. It has step by step instructions as well as explanations about techniques used in drawing. It also contains a big variety a subject. This is a book that will benefit any aspiring artist.
One of the most comprehensive drawing books I've seen in a while. Standard intro to form and value with chapters dedicated to the different subject matter. A really good intro book and definitely one to reference over and over.
This is a comprehensive, wonderful drawing guide! I love how much content is covered in this book, and how the topics are broken down into sections (such as landscapes, flowers, animals, etc.). It includes beautiful drawings & so many tips and techniques. I look forward to purchasing a hard copy when it goes on sale!
This is a great step-by-step, drawing and sketching, tutorial book. It’s great for beginners who want to get into drawing or someone just looking for another hobby. I will definitely be trying this out on paper as well as trying this on Procreate. i’m super excited to start drawing!
This book is an extensive guide on how to draw. It has step by step drawings of many different subjects. It also contains information on materials and drawing techniques like shading.
This book would be a useful addition to hobby section in our library.
This is a really excellent drawing book that goes into all kinds of information to get you started drawing and then shows you how to draw a wide variety of things from tea roses to Persian cats to people in all kinds of poses. You will not immediately be able to draw this well, but it shows you the general steps and talks about the principles to get you well started.
The one area where it really needs to be updated is diversity. Books by this publisher seem to draw on content they’ve published in books over many years and it shows. Every single person shown was white other than one Black child. They all look straight out of the 1950s or 1970s, with the same body type as well. Other than that, it really is a great resource.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book via NetGalley.
