An interesting exploration of the west midlands. Thank you to the publisher for letting me see this book.

I enjoyed "A Midland Meander"--Brian J. Rance makes you feel like you're along for the walk with his detailed descriptions of the footpaths and trails he follows on his journey around the English Midlands. There's some history thrown in and some travelogue elements (I particularly enjoyed the occasional descriptions of the pubs and cafes that Rance stopped at). It's a well-written account, perhaps best suited to those who are planning their own travels along Rance's route and will appreciate his tips and route descriptions.

Brian J. Rance likes walking. Most of us make do with walking the dog a couple of times a day but Brian doesn't make do he undertakes epic walks. This, his fifth book, records his walk circumnavigating the West Midlands conurbation. The walk took two years to complete due to various lockdowns caused by the coronavirus.
This is an area of England I rarely visit but in my mind's eye I had been expecting a huge, overpopulated post-industrial eyesore. How wrong I was. Brian walks through sleepy villages (always making sure he has a pint or two in the pub), over green hills and dales, alongside canals, past castles and cathedrals, Manor houses and golf courses on his fascinating one hundred and fifty mile trek. An appendix offers a guide for anyone wanting to go on a long pub crawl!

I live in the Midlands so I was immediately drawn to read this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed the style of writing and I loved reading someone else’s opinions on visiting places that are very familiar to me. It has also given me ideas of where else to visit , from various places not too far away from me that I’d never considered visiting
Most enjoyable .

This was a lovely read.I enjoyed strolling with the author reading his commentary meeting the people he engages with.Perfect way for an armchair traveler to see the world.#netgalley #bookguild
