This book was a lot of fun. Lots of forced proximity, a second chance romance, and dual povs lent itself well to this story. It isn’t very deep, a very surface level book, but it was light and what I needed in the moment.
Thank you to Alcove Press for the eARC of this one. These are on my honest thoughts!
There were quite a few things I liked about this book. I ADORED the game show element, and the second chance elements with former lovers turned enemies... I loved that both Charlotte and Eli both had something worth fighting for to win the prize money from the game show.
There was also quite a bit going on, and there were a couple of times that I wished these two could just reconcile and be together. If it wasn't self-worth standing in their way, it was a rash, a creepy TV producer, a fan, thoughts about why it didn't work last time so it obviously wouldn't work this time, sick family members, parole, etc. etc. etc. I think it needed one or two less "this won't work because of reason x, y, and z" - I got tired the emotional rollercoaster by the end.
However, I did love that these two characters inspired the best in each other and wanted the other person to have exactly what they went onto the game show for. And it ended up being a little bit more spicy than I thought it would be (maybe like... two jalapenos out of 5 on the spicy scale?).
I've had this one on my radar for months. It looked so cute so I requested the ARC. I used to watch game shows with my grandma. When I read the first few chapters I was so excited. It was going to be funny and I was going to learn some fun trivia along the way. Unfortunately it fell flat for me. We are told about their relationship as teenagers but not shown it. They meet up at age 30 both being on a game show and we just know that the guy broke her heart. But the breaking of the heart was weird too. He told her to meet him under the bleachers during school and then she got caught and he didn't. Then he didn't talk to her again. I mean you see him every day at school and never before school, after school, during school, or go to his house and ask what happened? He saw the teacher coming. That's it. That seems legitimate to me of why he didn't come out there. So when they both meet back up they both still want each other, but since we didn't get to see their love actually happen, I did not have feelings one way or the other about if they should be together. We were just told they loved each other and now they love each other again. And then what happened at the game show was weird too. I won't get into it as a spoiler but it just kind of fell flat to me also.
-Never apologize for taking up space.
This was cute! Loved the plot line and well-developed characters. I recommend this one!
Thank you NetGalley and Kelly Ohlert!
A delightful romance that pulls you in from the first page! The characters are relatable, and their relationship feels authentic. The story balances humor and emotion beautifully, making you root for them every step of the way. A great pick for anyone who enjoys a heartwarming love story!
Thank you to Alcove Press and NetGalley for a review copy in exchange for my honest opinion. I mixed the ebook copy with the audiobook.
Let’s Get Quizzical tells about a reality trivia game show, and two high school classmates that used to date who unknowingly reunite on the show to try to win big. Both Charlotte and Eli need to win money for their families - Charlotte’s grandmother’s health is declining and her costs of care are increasing. On the other hand, Eli wants to bring home money to allow his father to take a break from working two jobs but still be able to get by and make necessary repairs on their family home.
As a big Jeopardy fan, I expected to love this book, but I struggled to finish it. I didn’t feel like the characters felt realistic. They were supposed to be 12 years out of high school, but they acted like they were about 2 years out of high school, in the way they prioritized their feelings from high school. I needed more growth to be shown in order to feel like I could care about their journeys - because it seemed they weren’t journeying!
I was excited about this book after reading the premise because I love the idea of a reality TV angle mixed with a trivia show. I loved that part. Unfortunately this book lost my interest with the drama behind their second-chance romance. I was frustrated by Charlotte as the book continued. Overall this book was a miss for me. I will not be reviewing this book on my social media accounts.
I loved this author first book so much so I was so excited for this book. High stakes, so perfect to learn more facts, dual POV, former high school sweethearts and the great forced proximity trope.
Kelly is just magical with words, this author makes me laugh so loudly I snort.
Highly recommend this book, or any book by her!
Cute premise - two exes are brought back together on a game show - but ultimately it wasn't for me. Just had a hard time getting into this one.

I can see that a lot of the other reviews for this book aren’t stellar, but I honestly enjoyed it. It was a fun rom-com with some more serious backstory for the two major characters, and I thought the plot was interesting pretty much right from the beginning. I’ve enjoyed both books from this writer and would say that I’m a fan of hers so far.
I love the plotline of family competing on a game show, and this one was amazing. The writing was easy to follow and really drew me in.
This book had a cute premise. Two high school exes reunited unexpectedly on a game show. It gives a whole new meaning to enemies to lovers and second chances.
Charlotte and Eli both have their own reasons for needing to win the game show. Her grandmother is sick and he and his father have some intense financial needs. So, even though it's interesting for them to be thrown back together, they both need to keep their eyes on the prize.
I did think a few things about the storyline were a little over the top such as Charlotte's family's excessive obsession with absolute honesty. I'm not condoning deceit or lying, but they had a zero tolerance for any type of lie or fib at all. It seemed a bit much and set Charlotte up for disappointment over and over again because the world doesn't operate that way.
Overall, it was a cute story with a little spice thrown in for good measure. The story arc was satisfying and left me feeling content as it wrapped up.
Good book. I liked the characters and the dialogue. The story kept me interested, so it was a quick read. A good read
Mixing fake dating, a second chance, and game show celebrity all into one phenomenal book, Kelly Ohlert manages to make you cheer for both Charlotte and Eli, even when roadblock after roadblock continue to get in their way.
This is the type of book that makes you want to pick up every book by an author and add them all to the top of your TBR. It was fun and lighthearted yet woven together through personal/family trauma. It was such a quick read I kept pausing it just so it wouldn't end too quickly!
Also, some of the facts you'll learn in this book will make you start doing your own research... I speak from experience on that one!
Tropes:
- quiz show/game show
- second chance romance
- fake dating
- forced proximity
- uncovering secrets
It's hard to forget this book because the title always make me think of that Olivia Newton-John song :)
Let's Get Quizzical is a great read. Charlotte and Eli dated in high school until their breakup. Now, they have been paired up on a game show and they have to make the best of things. They start to grow close again but the show's producer has things in mind that might cause a rift again
I did like the characters but Charlotte stressed me out a little bit. Eli wasn't much better at keeping secrets. I felt like he didn't have a leg to stand on when it came to not telling the truth. It does all work out but I was close to not finishing at some places. I needed to come back to finish. I do enjoy the way Kelly Ohlert writes. It puts me in the scene with the characters.
Thanks to NetGalley and Alcove Press for the e-ARC of this book. This review is my own opinion.

Okay, this was such a fun, light rom-com. It had me giggling and kicking my feet. The banter between the two main characters was done really well and added so much to the story. Perfect one day read, especially at the beach or curled up on the couch on a rainy day.

Charolette has always wanted to be on a game show and finally her dreams are coming true. Nothing could ruin this moment, well except maybe being teamed up with her old high school beau, Eli, who left her heartbroken. They both need the money so are determined to put their past aside and make this opportunity count. As they spend more time together old wounds seem to heal, until production throws them a curveball that could ruin everything.
This is the second book I’ve read of Kelly’s and as always she delivers on a punny title and adorable cover. Not only that but she again has managed to come up with a unique and compelling premise for a romance. I absolutely adored the idea of a game show bringing high school lovers back together for a second chance. The trivia sprinkled throughout the book was a charming touch as well.
What I didn’t love was how the story didn’t live up to its potential because the drama felt too forced. It felt manufactured just to set up the third act break up. Instead of being so intent on creating tension I wish we had gotten more time devoted to their relationship (past and current). With claims that neither had been able to move on from their high school falling out (which happened 12 years ago) I would have liked to get more background and flashbacks from their relationship back then. And since this is a romance I wish more time had been dedicated to their current rekindling. The cutest parts of the book were them spending time together studying and touring the city.
To sum it up, this was an overall decent romance that could have been great if it hadn’t tried so hard to make drama that in the end just distracted from the amazing premise.
Thank you Alcove Press and Netgalley for my review copies.
Loved the dual point of view! Funny, heartfelt, second chance romance that was a joy to read!
Add in the quiz show element and this was a very fun romance to read!
Let’s Get Quizzical by Kelly Ohlert
⭐️⭐️⭐️
Let’s Get Quizzical follows Charlotte and Eli in this second chance romance that takes place on a trivia game show. Charlotte and Eli dated in high school but went their separate ways, and they meet again when they both make it as contestants on their favorite game show.
While the premise is definitely unique, this felt pretty predictable at times and a little insta-love-y. The book does explore some complicated family issues that both main characters are facing, but I wish just as much attention had been paid to exploring the relationship between Charlotte and Eli.
Overall though, this was a fun and easy read with a cute premise! This would be a great add to your TBR if you love game shows, reality tv, or stories set in Los Angeles!
Thank you to @netgalley for the ebook arc!
I love game shows, which is part of the reason this book initially stuck out to me. The main character who grew up watching the Game Network with her grandma? That was also me. So I was extremely disappointed when I realized I was going to like this book. Something I did enjoy the fun facts sprinkled throughout the book. A few of the facts felt a little random, but most of them connected to whatever was going on at the time.
Sadly, the one thing I could not get past was something that came up multiple times. I hated that the main character let something that happened 12 years ago (when they were in high school) affect all of her decisions with Eli. I’ve been out of high school for 10 years now (oh wow), and I know I am a completely different person than I was then. Maybe it’s just a me thing, but it made it so much harder to root for them as a couple because it felt doomed from the beginning.
