I thought this one was really cute! It's an enemies-to-lovers romcom that surrounds a game show (something you don't see very often). I had some laugh out loud moments and a great cast of characters! I'd love to read more from the author in the future.
Let’s Get Quizzical was a quick, 2nd chance romance with an enemy to lover twist. The main character Charlotte gets the chance of a lifetime and lands a spot to compete on a trivia show. The only downfall is that her high school boyfriend that broke her heart is going to be her partner. The stakes are high for both, as each need the monetary prize. I enjoyed reading how the two reconnected and while I thought the reason she was so devastated when he stood her up in high school was weak, it didn’t keep me from reading. This book is a light read, but with a little bit of steam to keep it from being too cheesy. The quiz show plot was interesting and I didn’t mind the extra trivia that floated throughout the book. Overall this is an easy read and one to pick up when you need a happy ending read.

Thank you Author Kelly Ohlert,Alcove Press and Netgalley for this ARC. I am voluntarily leaving a review. Charlotte has always watched game shows with her family and one in particular could be the answer to her family's prayers. Eli hates seeing his father struggle and wishes he could help out more. If only he would be picked for the show "Brain Battle" so that he could win some much needed money. When Charlotte and Eli both get picked and see each other for the first time in 12 years, will broken hearts heal or will the hurt feelings get in the way of winning the game? Cue the "Jeopardy" music..This book had some heartbreaking components that I wasn't expecting. My main issue is the illness afflicting Charlotte's grandmother. I wish there would have been a mention of what the doctors were believing it to be. Besides that,I liked the banter between Charlotte and Eli. The title is absolutely adorable. I really enjoyed this story as it wasn't predictable or typical.
Charlotte has always been determined to get on a game show she’s watched since she was a kid, but especially now that her grandmother has a mysterious illness that is breaking the bank. Eli wants to be on the show to help dig himself and his father out of a financial hole. When they each receive their call to be on the show, they don’t realize that it’s going to bring up their past hurts from a high school misunderstanding. They are determined to win and not let the beef get in the way.
I thought the idea was good, unfortunately the character development was lacking. The grandma has a mysterious illness which seemed like a cop out, I’m not even sure what Charlotte does for a living? She would check emails but apparently they both live these amazingly flexible lives where they can just take weeks off to go on game shows and spend time with family. All they talked and thought about was the other one and her grandma/his father. No hobbies besides hollering game show answers at a tv? No thought of your job? It just wasn’t realistic and frankly boring. I did finish it so obviously it wasn’t horrible, but overall I would give it a 2.5.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This story starts out with great promise, however falls flat. The FMC shows an absolute unwillingness to forgive in exceptional circumstance and holds everybody to impossibly high moral standard, I would have enjoyed the book a lot more if she had softened slightly. The poor MMC is made out to be awful while she is perfect and he always has to grovel to her.
It's a quick read that you can easily skim through. It didn't really hold my interest beyond 25% of the book so I wouldn't call this a page turner. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be a rom-com because it isn't that funny. I guess it's a clean-ish romance? There's not much hot and steamy action and very little swearing. These two characters fell out in their late teens and had no contact until they turned up at a game show, both desperate for the prize money. They realise they need each other to win the prize, and also, well... Just need each other romantically, too. The rest of the book is pretty much them getting back together again, but throw in some family drama and gameshow politics. Like a typical romance, you can expect a HEA and everything falls together neatly at the end.
Review: Let’s Get Quizzical by Kelly Ohlert
Let’s Get Quizzical attempts to be equal parts heartwarming enemies to lovers romance, a shocking mystery, and a lighthearted romp. Unfortunately, for me, it fell flat.
The story felt needlessly complicated, and I did not find myself wrapped up in the romance. The enemies turned to lovers much too quickly (I enjoy banter and slow burn), and the mystery felt out of place. I think it could have been either the romance or the mystery, but I didn’t enjoy it as both. I also, personally, prefer closed door romance and found the scenes a bit much.
All that to say, Let’s Get Quizzical may not be the right fit for me, but it may be for you! If you like enemies to lovers, quirky facts, and open door romance, this might be the right fit for a quick, light read.
Let’s Get Quizzical will be available on October 17.
Thank you to NetGalley and Alcove Press for this ARC. The review is my honest opinion.
This romance is sweet and cute and will be loved by many. The storyline is fresh, but the predictable romance novel has become my least favorite think on earth to read.
Recommended For: Those who enjoy a lot of the current popular romance books.
A five-star read that would win the game. This was such a great novel idea; I haven’t read anything set around a game show today and this was just so much fun. I enjoyed this author the last time I read them, and this one again warmed my heart. The main couple Charlotte and Eli are so much fun, they just spark off each other and really come alive on the page, their sparks between each other also really pop and give you that warm feeling. I must admit that I really do like the trivia as well, I love a good quiz and these just keep me hooked.
What a nice find. This was the first book I've read from this author and I really enjoyed it. The story was different from anything I've read recently and really captured my attention. It was so well written and the characters were fantastic.
Cute cover. Cute premise. Excellent writing style! I thought this one was adorable. I’ll read more from this author as well.
This had real banter, made me giggle constantly and had some real LOL moments.
I enjoyed the characters and the game show vibes!
It was a cute romance and I am happy to have received this art. I liked Kelly's writing style a lot also.
Cute and flirty with great banter. I really enjoyed reading Ohlert's sophomore novel, which I honestly thought was even better than her debut. The characters really jumped off the page and the themes were really easy and fun to relate to. I think lots of people will be satisfied picking up this new romance!
This was absolutely the rom com for me. The game show setting mixed with high school sweethearts was just the perfect combination for a love story. Just with any romance novel, you need to suspend your beliefs slightly but that makes it even perfect.
If you are nerdy, love romances, and a little spice, check this one out!

The premise of this book interested me since the second I read it. I love trivia games and I felt this book was really able to encapsulate it. Another aspect that I ended up loving was the second chance romance between Charlotte and Eli (they're too cute)! The pacing of the book was really good and it was able to keep me interested all the way through.
This book is very sweet and an amazing read if you're looking for something fun, cute and very nerdy (meaning this was right up my alley hahahah). Definitely recommend it!
I loved the idea of this book, and the cover is adorable.
Unfortunately, for me, that's as good as it got.
For a large part of it, I thought I was reading a YA novel, as the characters seemed quite immature. Nothing wrong with that, I love a good YA novel. But when it mentioned their ages as being in their 30's, I was taken aback.
The YA-ness of the book continued, and then next minute, a spicy sex scene. I did not see that coming at all.
I had to go back and check I hadn't accidently switched over to one of the other books on my kindle.
Some of the story had rather dark themes, and lots of opportunity for a tug on the heart strings, but I didn't feel any emotion reading this one, except relief when I finished.
Really liked this -- the game show setting was so unique and cute, and I thought the chemistry between the two MCs was really well-developed and realistic.
Charlotte and Eli are paired together for a game show that both need to win, despite both having lingering wounds from their break-up several years prior.
This was a quick read, and I liked the slow burn second chance romance. Unfortunately I didn't find it as funny as I think I was supposed to, and it didn't really hook me. Others may enjoy it more though!
I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I'd give this book 3.5 stars, so I rounded up to 4. It was fun and there were some truly excellent moments. On the other hand, there were a few things I found irritating about the characters and the plot that got in the way of complete enjoyment. Overall, a good beach/cottage/hanging out kind of read.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
