A cute and nerdy story full of fun facts, romance and second chances.
From playing quiz shows most of her life to being a contestant, Charlotte thinks she's found her way to help out with her family's medical bills. Unfortunately the last person she expects to be teamed up with is Eli who she last saw when he ghosted her and disappeared.
Filled with humour this is a great story to follow and I'll be looking out for more of Ohlert's work.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed how both Eli and Charlotte had a complex family dynamic that was the main drive for wanting to win money by competing on the show. I also loved watching their relationship unfold throughout the book! I found myself laughing out loud on numerous occasions. This was a super cute read and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a second chance romance.
Thank you to NetGalley and Alcove Press for the early release of this book.
I don't usually lean toward RomComs, but I am also very rarely disappointed when I do. Charlotte and Eli dated in high school and lost touch after a tough breakup. They have both thought of one another over the years, but neither are willing to reach out. They become teammates on a quiz game show, and they are forced to work together because they need the prize money to benefit their families. After getting to know each other in their adult lives, they begin to wonder what a renewed relationship could be like between them. Super cute and sweet, and I loved the reunion being on a televised quiz gameshow.

This one didn’t do it for me.
In this one you follow the story or Charlotte and Eli, past lovers. But they end up reuniting on a game show. Will these foes learn to be friends to win as much money as they can?
I did enjoy the originality of this book and plot!
Things that I didn’t love about this book is that is did seem a bit juvenile, even though it isn’t a YA novel. Another thing that didn’t work for me were a bunch of the side plots, they did add to the main plot, but just seemed so rushed at the end and didn’t add what it could have. This book wasn’t long and I think an extra 30 pages could have made this book go from (in my opinion) mediocre to good! I believe this author has so much potential and I will continue to read their books.
I give this one 2/5.
So this was adorable. I had a horrible time suspending my disbelief over the stakes that seemed way to high, but then I looked up the quiz show scandals of the 1950s, learned that yes, cheating on a quiz show is indeed a federal crime and shut myself promptly up. I do like a second chance romance. Charlotte and Eli are clearly smitten with each other and really just need to have multiple feelings talks where they both relax a little. But we get there. I was rooting for them the whole time.
The Quizzer in me absolutely loved this book!!!!
Thank you soooooo much netgalley, the author and the publisher for the advanced review copy if this book💗

A very cute story, though with some contrived and too-convenient rules to create a forced proximity situation. A good second novel with some enjoyable tension moments. Good follow up to the cozy romance feel of To Get To The Other Side.
I really thank Alcove Press and Netgalley for the chance to read this book in advance.
I was very curious about Let's get Quizzical because I love quiz games and they're rarely mentioned in books, so I immediately jumped in!
The story started well, funny and fresh, even if I was a little bit confused to see Eli and Charlotte immediately reunited, I tought it would take a little bit longer time than that, but that's ok. That said, I adored their banter and the chemistry that immediately sparked again between them, plus the quiz games they played together. I cheered immediately for Eli to have another chance with her and finally be happy, also that Charlie's Gran could be ok and all their financial problem being solved... so, where the problem started?
In my opinion, It happened all too fast, and the same dialogues happened multiple times without a real improvement (ok, forgiveness takes time, I agree with that), and that bored me. Considering also that the "main drama" was focused again on trust issues it was a little bit "too much" on that side.
At the same time, it lacked the freshness and lightness of the beginning, making this romcom a little bit tough to fully enjoy it.
Anyway, it has been a lovely reading, so if you love lovers to enemies to lovers contemporary romance, you should really give it a chance!

Let’s Get Quizzical by Kelly Ohlert was a super enjoyable second chance romance book, filled with lots of random trivia and facts that I just loved!
Charlotte loves to watch game shows with her family. Not only that, but she loves to apply to be on game shows. When she is finally selected to appear on Brain Battle, she never expected to see Eli, her ex-boyfriend, competing on the show at the same time. After Eli broke her heart in high school, with no explanation, he’s the last person Charlotte wants to see. The two can’t avoid one another after they are paired to compete together on the show. From there, others start to take notice that they have some type of history and the ratings for the show shoot through the roof! Can the two continue make it to the next round and win money that both of their families so desperately need? Or will their relationship and a Brain Battle scandal get in their way?

I was really looking forward do dive into this book. A cute romance set in a quiz background, well my nerd heart beats a little faster. Shame to say my nerd heart was a bit disappointed.
Eli, our male lead, is a personal trainer who feels like his life isn't going anywhere. He lives with his father who spent his childhood in prison. Charlotte is content in her life and loves spending her nights with her family on the sofa playing along to quiz shows. She even dreams about starring in one of these shows. Eli and Charlotte have known each-other in the past and when their paths crossed after 12 years it just happens to be on a TV quiz show.
See, interesting concept! But that is were it ends to be honest. Because this book is a bit of a mess. So much is going on, that the relationship between Eli and Charlotte is pushed back as a side story-line. The main stage is filled with family drama for the two characters.
I wanted a cute little romance and it was just all so grime. Maybe the marketing of this book should have been a little different? More womans fiction then feel good romance?
While I appreciate the author's efforts and creativity, I regret to say that it did not resonate with me personally. The combination of the storyline and the portrayal of the heroine came across as off-putting and didn't align with my preferences. The writing style and overall plot failed to capture my interest, making it difficult for me to fully engage with the book.
I gave this one a good college try but had to DNF it a quarter of the way in. The FMC was so incredibly obnoxious with her pathological need for truth at any expense. And her jumping to conclusions and childish behavior were impossible for me to overlook. The premise of this one sounded a lot more interesting than the experience of actually reading it. I appreciated some of the trivia but the FMC spouted it off at super weird times. The MMC was totally fine and I would’ve read the book if he was there with a different FMC.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
What a wonderful rom com! As an avid lover of trivia and of second chance romances, this book hit all the marks for me! Eli and Charlotte were both complex, lovable main characters and their connection was clearly electric. My only wish was that we got to know some of the supporting characters a little better. Otherwise this was an incredibly enjoyable read.
The concept and blurb about this book made me super excited to read it, but once I started, I really struggled to get into it. Things picked up a bit in the middle but not enough to overcome my initial impression.
Pros - the relationship between Charlie and her Gran is very sweet. The reasons behind Charlie and Eli going on the game show are admirable. At times, the relationship development between Charlie and Eli was enjoyable.
Cons - chunks of dialogue were cringe-worthy. Charlie's hangup on 100% honesty at all costs seemed unbelievable - and quite frankly, made her annoying. She and Eli were stereotypical tropes. There wasn't enough development of the secondary characters to make me care about them.
Overall, 2 1/2 stars. I finished the book and felt somewhat satisfied, but overall it was a miss for me.

I really wanted to love Kelly Ohlert's LET'S GET QUIZZICAL, but it really needed at least one more developmental edit. Things just didn't unfold in an effective way. The premise has so much promise; unfortunately, the execution falls flat for me. There were so many opportunities to up the tension, but Charlotte and Eli both feel immature, and the reason for the distance between them in high school just doesn't feel like enough to be upset about it years later. For those reasons, I couldn't really cheer them on and, ultimately, didn't care what happened to them.
Thank you NetGalley and Alcove Press for this advanced reader copy!
Let;s Get Quizzical was my first read by Kelly Ohlert and I absolulty loved it. I loved the competitive game, the second chance romance and the feistiness of our MC.
A cute story with a nice dowse of steam, I enjoyed reading Let’s Get Quizzical. The heroine, Charlotte, was a little obsessive about honesty. That sounds weird to even say. I like honesty, too, but she was just a bit too obsessive for my take. Otherwise this one hit all the right notes for me.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was a really cute "second chance romance" story. The game show was a fun setting, and a unique way to reunite the main couple. Seeing how Eli had pined after Charlie for all of those years was sweet and heart wrenching as well. I enjoyed their path to forgiveness.
However, I found Charlie a little hard to sympathize with as the plot moved forward. The reasoning for their "break up" felt very rigid, and I had a hard time understanding how someone as empathetic with Charlie would not be on Eli's side in that sort of situation.
Overall, a cute romance I think many will enjoy!

I was really excited to read this book as the concept of it was interesting to me. I love stories that are set in tv land or movie land or take place on the set of some sort of production. I’ve always enjoyed behind the scenes elements of movie and tv and have taken lots of studio tours on trips to LA because of it.
But this one fell a little flat to me. I liked all the quiz show stuff but wish there was more of that and I found some of the backstory of the characters a little ridiculous. What 30 year old holds a grudge about something very minor like that from high school? And her family never trusting her the same again because of skipping school? Not realistic.
Cute concept and setting but not my fave!
I was so thankful to not only receive this on NetGalley, but also to be apart of a traveling arc, thanks to the publisher.
Eli is a personal trainer who is trying to make ends meet for him and his father, who has spent his life in and out of prison. Charlotte is very family oriented and her family is struggling to pay off her grandmother’s medical debt. In high school, the both of them dated but ended up breaking up on bad terms. Now, in order for both of them to support their families, they end up on a game show as partners. However, this game show has some behind the scene issues with its legitimacy, due to a sleazy host that will stop at nothing to get the views.
This was a quick, cute read! I enjoyed the characters and how they interacted together. I felt like they had great character development.
The plot of this one was what sold me. I love game shows and reality tv, so the atmosphere was perfect for me. Lots of fun trivia facts, banter, and high stakes.
