This is a great lawyer story…I have to go back and read the first two books in this series …. The characters appeal to me, the cases are interesting,, and he does the best he can for his clients reminding me somewhat of The Lincoln Lawyer books.
Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
An intriguing book about small-town law, well-written, suspenseful and full of intrigue. Recommended.
A boating accident has left one Basking Rock teenager dead and three others traumatized. Defense attorney Leland Munroe is determined to prove his client wasn’t responsible, but circuit solicitor Pat Ludlow will stop at nothing to keep his own son out of trouble. Even if it means ruining an innocent young man’s life.
While Leland prepares his case, a second desperate client approaches him about an injustice from the past. Two decades ago, Maria Guerrero was convicted of murdering Peggy Ludlow, the solicitor’s first wife. The evidence was stacked against her, but her son is positive his mother is innocent. If Maria didn’t kill Peggy, though… who did?
As Leland navigates the two cases’ twists and turns, he and his loved ones are caught in the crossfire. Leland has committed his life to fighting for justice… but this time both his career and his freedom may be on the line.
I was hooked from the first chapter. Will definitely recommend this legal thriller to fans of this genre.
I received an electronic copy of this book from NetGalley.
Other reviewers have written quite detailed synopses, and I will not repeat their efforts here. I will say that this is the third book in a series, and (unlike some other series) I had no trouble following the plot despite not having read the earlier books. (I intend to remedy that deficiency soon.) I enjoyed the legal twists and turns, and would recommend the book to anyone who enjoys legal thrillers.
This is the first novel I've read from Peter Kirkland and I really enjoyed it.
The book description reminded of the Murdaugh Murders which I just finished watching the Netflix docuseries.
It started off a little confusing, as I didn't realize there are two other books in this series, but once I figured out the characters and their back story, I really enjoyed the story.
I loved all the twists and turns of the story line.
Thank you NetGalley and Publisher for this ARC.
Some of the descriptions were cringe - With her black-rimmed glasses and her grey hair up in its usual bun, she looked like a cheerful older librarian. I really struggled to enjoy the language and feel the author would benefit from giving a little more time to other areas. I'm all about writing what you know, but at least give a little thought to the parts around those.
Good book! I'm loving this series! My favorite of the books is still the first but! That doesn't mean the others are not just as good! this book had suspense, intrigue, mystery, murder, blackmail, and great detective work! The storyline was very interesting and kept me glued to my Kindle! I highly recommend reading this book and series! They are well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
