We see Tig ask his best friend Lily a favor at the start of this book. He wants to throw a huge party for the rest of the animals at the zoo. It is up to Lily to invite them, and each encounter goes about the way she thought it would. When Tig learns about this, he has a serious talk with the animals. Once this book comes to a close, we see something pretty cool end up happening. Fans of the first Tig and Lily book will want to check this one out.

This is the second in the series and it’s just as fun as the first one. Lily is a tiger and Tig is a cat who live together at the zoo. Lily has never had a party and Tig wants to have one. I’ll Tig has to do is invite all the guests. That’s not very easy to do when you’re considered the top predator of the zoo. This is a beginning chapters graphic novel great for any age but really designed for those in K through two. This series is fantastic and sure to be a hit.

Party Animals is another friendly book from Dan Thompson. In this second book of the series, Tig and Lily plan a party- though Lily is quite reluctant to invite the neighbors. All sorts of funny things happen as they prepare for the party and there’s some great morals to learn along the way too, such as: being brave, being kind, saying sorry and forgiving others. This house cat and tiger pair is very entertaining. Your children will surely enjoy their shenanigans!

Tig and Lily are officially my favorite kid’s graphic novel series. I was able to preview the first book in the series and loved it. So, I was super excited to read this book as well. It doesn’t disappoint. Tig and Lily are just the perfect set of friends. Tig pushes Lily to go around her limitations and tells her hey, let’s have a party, I don’t care if you’re a tiger. I am sure people will be super glad to come. Tig is so positive that Lily believes that she will be able to easily ask friends to come to the party. Well sometimes people don’t always know how to take others, but maybe their view can be changed. Just a lovely book with beautiful artwork and one that kids are going to love. I challenge you not to fall in love with these amazing characters.
Thank you so much to Random House Childrens and Netgalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of this title.

Party Animals is a cute little graphic novel perfect for early readers - it addresses social dynamics important for K-2 readers in a way that's relatable for them, and gives a simple but well-illustrated narrative for them to follow.

My only issue with the book was which theme the author was trying to convey most for his readers - at the start, it seemed like the message was one of empathy and understanding, based on the fact that our tiger friend did not want to have a party and was uncomfortable with the notion of parties, with her preferred method of having fun being relaxation and solitude. However, as the narrative continues, the focus seems to shift to other animals' prejudices about tigers and being scared that a party invite was actually an attack.

I know it's not 100% the obligation of children's authors, particularly in graphic novels, to present a moral or message to their readers, but this one felt like it was halfheartedly straddling a line between two of them (and a potential third about opening oneself up to new experiences when the party does turn out to be enjoyable).

That said, I think this is a perfectly fine and entertaining title that my youngest readers will enjoy as they build stamina toward the longer titles in the graphic novels section!

Tig decides he wants a party and to meet the new neighbors. Lily is boring. She eventually comes around to the idea of the party and is given the duty of inviting the neighboring animals. This shouldn't be so hard, right? Lily works on some great tactics, but the other animals can only see she's a tiger.

This is where I realized Tig is very pushy. He doesn't give Lily a chance to explain why inviting their neighbors isn't working. He gets the important job of setting up the party and she has to work against the neighbors all freaking out that she's a tiger. No wonder she ends up feeling how she feels toward the end! It works out in the end, but it seems to me that if Tig and Lily are friends, maybe Tig should pause a moment to hear why Lily is struggling. No facts or bonus content this time besides a letter. Wish there was some bonus stuff like the first volume.
