An unsurprisingly excellent follow-up to Ravenfall!
I liked this one. I like the magic and watching Anna and Colin grow in the knowledge and use of their magic.
I like that we get Jewish aspects intertwined throughout the book. I liked the setting in the woods too, it felt like I was there with these characters.
A fun magical read.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC!
I absolutely loved this. I think that this was better than the original, Ravenfall. They are both great books with well developed characters and a plot that keeps you wanting to read more. But I really enjoyed this one more. Maybe because I had read the first book.
I just reviewed Hollowthorn: A Ravenfall Novel by Kalyn Josephson. #HollowthornARavenfallNovel #NetGalley

I love Ravenfall! This book is slightly less cozy than the first as it takes place in enchanted woods far from the b&b, but the stakes and the tension were wonderfully done!
I loved watching Anna's and Collin's magics grow, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them both start to carve out their places in their families and their magical world.
When I got approved for this ARC, I dropped everything to read it. Ravenfall was a perfectly cozy five-star read for me last year, so my expectations were high, and Hollowthorn lived up to all of them. It's an all-new enchanting adventure with the same magic of the first book. I had been hoping for more of Anna's dad and Max, and this book delivered on both counts! It also meant the world to me to see Anna start to reconnect with her Jewish identity, and I think we're going to see more of that in book three.
If this series had existed when I was a kid, I would have been absolutely in love with it; I'm so happy to have it now. I'm excited to see what's in store for future books!
CW: injuries (including an injured animal), manipulation by a mentor figure, past parent deaths
Thank you to the publisher for allowing me to read this eARC.
This was such a magical read. It was so fun and interesting and a quick read. The characters were charming and we all love mythical creatures, right? I also loved that this story incorporated Hanukah and Judaism, giving people a chance to learn more about it. Kalyn Josephson is so good at storytelling!
A great continuation to the Ravenfall series. Adventurous and fast-paced. Filled with wonder and heroics, mythical creatures and magical lands. The worldbuilding is fantastic. And the characters are distinct and interesting (Max and Ravenfall are still my favorites!).
As an additional bonus, this book takes place during Hanukkah. By setting the story around this lesser-known holiday, readers get an educational glimpse into some of the traditions of Hanukkah, as well as some of the mythology surrounding Judaism.
A page-turner that kept me on my toes.
