This book and this plot! The suspense of finding who she saw kept the pages turning. Frances’ daughter Naomi is in a car accident and on the way to the hospital Frances sees another girl in the car screaming for help. France’s becomes obsessed with finding this woman and the girl, these books are narrated by two POVs which I love! It was a good suspense and mystery, there are plot twists that I didn’t figure out.
France's is struggling to keep things straight. Is it dementia or something more sinister? The players include her mother, daughter, ex husband, and a missing child? An up all nighter mystery.
Great read
It keeps you guessing to the last page
With a twist at the end you didn’t see coming
Thanks NetGalley
Frances Brookman receives the dreaded phone call every mother fears: her daughter, Naomi, has been in a life-threatening accident. As she races to the hospital, Frances catches sight of a child in another car—a girl screaming for help. It’s a split-second decision: follow the car and potentially delay reaching her own daughter, or do nothing and live with the consequences.
This is a suspenseful, thought-provoking story. The tension builds as Frances grapples with her choices, haunted by the image of the distressed girl. The novel explores themes of sacrifice, guilt, and the lengths a mother will go to protect her child.
I would class this more as a family/domestic story rather than a thriller. It's true that the mystery of the 'missing' girl underpins the plot but that s only explored in the context of the family drama. It's a good family drama with twists and intrigue but possibly not what was expected from the blurb.
This book was presented to me as a Mystery / Thriller, I don't agree, I think there were thrilling moments in the first few chapters, but after that this was definitely a family drama.. That being said for a family drama it was good. But this was not the book I thought it was. It isn't even the book in the synopsis.
This is more of a family drama, with a possible medical issue. I think the writing was done well, and the story was easy to follow. It just isn't my typical cup of tea.
So many unexpected and explosive twists and stunning cliff hangers kept me gripped. I flew the pages in one afternoon I couldn’t put it down even if I wanted to. the characters are well written and it's hard not to become invested in their journey, both mother and daughter. The multiple perspectives slowly help you put together the jigsaw but even with the clues I would never have guessed that ending.
This was a heart pounding edge of your seat thriller that kept me hooked from the first page! I devoured it and omg that ending!!!!
I have mixed feelings about this book. The beginning started off strong and pulled me into the story, but I found it lacked momentum from the middle onwards which put a dampener on my overall enjoyment on the book. Sadly, not for me, but I’m sure the right readers will really enjoy this.
An excellent book, it was mysterious and fascinating and managed to hold my attention throughout the entire reading. Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity
Frances receives a frantic phone call her daughter has been in a accident. I felt my blood pumping throughout this book and the tension is taught.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advance copy of The Girl Who Vanished by R.M. Ward in exchange for my honest review and opinion. OMG this book! Holy cow, the amount of twists and turns that will keep you holding your breath waiting to see what is going to happen next. I highly recommend this book but on one condition - clear your schedule as you will not want to do anything until you finish it.
I did enjoy this story & finished it in one sitting when I should have been sleeping lol! I will be looking for more books by this author!
Gripping right from the very start with a good level of twists and unpredictability that kept me guessing all the way through
A very enjoyable read, very absorbing. It is a story of great anguish, there is a mystery at its heart, but the main focus is the family and the historical anguish that only becomes apparent towards the end.
A very good, well written book. I loved it.
Suspense drips from every sentence of this gripping thriller, leaving you utterly captivated and craving the next twist and trust me there’s plenty of them!
Oh my GOD this was good. from the beginning it is gripping, interesting and captivating. it makes you invested in the narrative and oh boy it does NOT disappoint. a fast read this one! read it in one sitting,
what an ending. I think I enjoyed this one a little too much :D by the last chapters I had goosebumps all over my arms. definitely recommend this one to all mystery lovers out there,
Thanks to NetGally for providing my copy. this was an amazing journey.
Ward can absolutely do no wrong as a writer for me, I absolutely adored 'The Girl Who Vanished'.
Without spoiling anything, Ward is excellent at the ol' bait-and-switch you will never see coming. The intensity of what Frances is going through really jumps off the pages and made me wonder what I'd do if I was in her position. This is not your average mystery, not all build to high crescendo but pauses here and there to take stock of situations.
This book was full of suspense. I couldnt put it down. I love a book that keeps you guessing and this one certainly did.
Thank you to the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for a review.
This was my first read from R.M. Ward. This book was told in multiple POVs and was engaging from the start. It does rely a bit on the "am I going crazy" trope that is common in thrillers these days but all in all, it was a fun ride. I do wish the ending had felt a bit less rushed but it didn't ruin the story. I look forward to more work from Ward.
