Although I guessed the ending quite early on in the book, there was another twist which I didn't guess. Despite me knowing the direction of the plot, it didn't take anything away from the overall enjoyment of the book. I was drawn in and my attention was kept throughout. I would recommend this for anyone who wants a quick and easy read with an enjoyable plot.
I was totally hooked by the 'blurb' for this book - Frances receives the call any mother would dread, her daughter is in the hospital. Racing to get to her she catches sight of a child in another car – a girl screaming for help. Haunted by the sight and her failure to respond when she can, she is determined to look into the girl's situation herself.
I am very grateful to NetGalley for giving me an opportunity to read an ARC of this ebook - a perfect bank holiday read - short, fast-paced, engaging. The only thing for me was that there were aspects as the book proceeded that I did just find a bit too obvious and I was quite disappointed that I was actually quite easily able to predict the outcome. Certainly not a challenging book, but I'd recommend it for anyone wanting an easy thriller to read while lounging in the sun.
The Girl Who Vanished is an afternoon quick read. Frances Brookman is on her way to the hospital after a phone call letting her know that her daughter has been in an accident. As she races to the hospital, Frances sees a child asking for help. Now she must choose to follow the child or go to her daughter in the hospital.
Frances is convinced she witnessed a kidnapping, but no one believes her. Frances gets more confused and is panicking as strange things keep happening. Is Frances losing her mind or is there something else going on that she can't quite grasp.
This is twisted story that will keep the reader guessing. The story didn't grab me as I had expected. Still, it is an interesting read.
I thought this was different to other books I have read, and it kept me guessing, which I liked. The pace was pretty good, and I thought it was well worth a read.
Hold into your hats and buckle up for this psychological thriller. It's dramatic and terrifying at the same time.
Frances feels like she's losing her mind. She got a phone call which is every parents nightmare - her daughter Naomi has been involved in an accident and is in hospital- off she rushes to get to her! Whilst on the motorway she sees a little girl in the back of a black 4x4 mouthing the words "help me" but she needs to get to Naomi and she looses sight of the car anyway, what can she do? Without giving too much of the plot or spoilers away Frances seems to be suffering from PTSD and is reliving/ hallucinating events which have already happened! The ending was quite unexpected. I loved this book and will be recommending to friends and family. Would love to see it made into a film!
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publishers and RM Ward (will be eagerly awaiting more from you) love this type of thriller especially when you can't guess the ending and are shocked by what you've just read. Just want to go back to the beginning to read all over again! If I could give more than 5* I would.
The Girl Who Vanished is perfect for fans of psychological thrillers! If you enjoy unexpected twists, captivating characters, and shocking endings, this is the perfect book for you. R M Ward has been one of my favorite authors, and wowed me again!
I’d like to thank HQ and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Girl Who Vanished’ by R M Ward in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Frances receives a phone call saying that her daughter Naomi has had an accident and is in hospital. Driving along the motorway on her way to the hospital she makes eye contact with a child in a black 4x4 who mouths the word ‘help me’. As Frances continues to the hospital she regrets not being able to follow the car and help the child.
‘The Girl Who Vanished’ is a well-written psychological thriller with the fascinating concept of a woman whose family believe she’s losing her mind. From page one there are surprises all the way with so much intrigue, suspense and twists and turns that I was kept on the edge of my seat unable to stop reading. When I reached the last pages the conclusion was very interesting and not at all what I was expecting. This is a book that’s easy to read and a pleasure to get involved in.
This was breathtaking. Going mad in your late 40s is a terrifying idea. A child in the hospital is terrifying. Children being kidnapped is also terrifying.
I loved the ending.
This is a well written, edge of the seat, dramatic read. The chapters are written from various character perspectives and this makes it an easy page turner.
There’s mental anguish, family drama and a girl, who may have been kidnapped, or, it was imagined. It’s a perfect holiday read and only misses the full 5* due to an element of predictability. However, there’s an unforeseen ending that makes up for it.
I’m grateful to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to preview.
The girl who vanished -this book was hard to put down! So many exciting things happening at once kept me guessing until the end! Well written! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me a chance to read this.
An unputdownable thriller. A narrator with PTSD, a gripping plot and a sense of urgency in the writing make this a gripping read. It's hard to work out what is really happening in Frances's life and what is an alternative scenario. Leave yourself time to read this great book in one go.
Another 5 star read! Well written, I couldn't put this book down. This was my first time reading Ward but I'm a fan now. The suspense and mystery had me glued to the pages and I couldn't put this one down.
Frances Brookman has just received the phone call that every mither dreads. Her daughter Naomi has been in a life=threatening accident. As she races to the hospital, Frances catches sight of another child in another car = a girl screaming for help. It's a slip-second thing, looks can be deceptive. She could follow the car, but can she live with the delay getting to her daughter? If she does nothing, can she live with herself?
With twists, suspense and mystery, this slightly predictive story was right up my street. Frances thinks she is losing her mind, dementia runs in the family. She's convinced she was witness to a kidnapping. She was on her way to hospital to see her daughter when she sees a little girl in the back of a car mouthing "help me." Frances is confused, strange events keep occurring. This story is more about Frances than it is about a girl who vanished or her daughter who is in hospital. With Frances being an unreliable narrator, it keeps you guessing throughout the book. This is a quick and easy book to read.
I would like to thank #Netgalley #BoldwoodBooks and the author #RMWard for my ARC of #ThegirlWhoVanished in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book. Plenty in the storyline to keep you entertained. The downside for me was that I guessed all of the twists bar one and that the ending seemed rushed. Would definitely read the next offering. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.
Thriller is exactly the right description for this book. With a generally unreliable main character, struggling with PTSD and worried she is following her mothers footsteps into early onset dementia, Frances finds herself reliving an accident her daughter survived from years ago.
She also becomes embroiled in another case when she sees a child pleading for help from the back of a car.
I could not put this book down until every one of my hunches and suspicions had been addressed and proven- one way or another!
Thank you R.M. Ward, Harper Publishers and Netgalley for my ARC. I really enjoyed this book. i liked the twist that was in it. The book kept me guessing. I would recommend reading this book. I just wished they didn't end it how it did. It felt like it was missing a chapter. Overall I really enjoyed the book and will read R.M. Wards other books.
I could not put this one down and raced through it in a day. I love me an unreliable narrator, and Frances is certainly that. She seems to be crazy on top of paranoid wrapped with a bit of hysteria - and I'm there for it all. Strap on your seatbelts, kids...this is going to be a deliciously devious ride.
I found The Girl Who Vanished hard to put down. Gripping, pacy and just when you think you’ve worked out which direction the plot is going, the author throws in a twist to keep you guessing. Highly recommended. Thank you to NetGalley, HQ and the author for the chance to review.
First I would like to thank NetGalley and HQ Digital for an ARC copy of this novel in return for an honest review.
This was my first book by the author and I really enjoyed the read. It took me a while to finish, life just kept getting in the way, but I can now finally share my thoughts regarding this novel.
Frances receives a call from the hospital, letting her know her daughter Naomi has been in an accident. On her way to the hospital, she catches a glimpse of a child in a vehicle next to her. The child seems to be distressed and is mouthing the word "Help", now Frances has a choice to make, does she keep driving to the hospital for her daughter or does she try to help the child...?
I was truly intrigued by the concept of this novel and the author had my attention from the very first page. I wasn't blown away by the writing, but the plot and characters kept me invested, and turning the pages. I truly enjoyed Frances' POV and could really sympathize with her character.
I found this to be a quick and easy read, the pace was done really well. Some part of the mystery was predictable, but in the end it was a very good read.
I would definitely read more from this author in the future.
to begin with, this have been a good read. The story has kept me engrossed. The plot has been very interesting. The way the story unveils, the development on the characters was so thrilling.
Throughout the story, the author has kept us guessing about what might have happened, but the ending is completely unbelievable, unexpected. The characterisation and the struggles of the lead has been portrayed well. The interrelations aspects between the characters has been described well. The mental toll, the confusion, the feeling of losing reality, the sense of fear, the feeling of impending doom, to say almost all the feelings of the lead and also of those surrounding her have been well portrayed.
Looking forward to more books by the author.
