Cute children’s book. Great gift or happy book mail for any child. Must have for Zebra lovers.
Such a cute children’s book! I loved the illustrations!! The story is super cute. I will defiantly be adding this one to my toddlers bookshelf!
While the character drawings were cute and I wanted to like the story, it was pretty boring and too heavy-handed with the messaging. Needs to be more fun and lively for kids in this age group.
The publishers gave reviewers this volume in the wrong format for adobe digital editions, so I could barely see any of the artwork, but the story seemed snappy and strong enough (if not as succinct as the "...Lend a Hoof" book), with the post-story matter proving ideal for certain young audiences being guided into thinking about different ways to be, and how we can have a wonderful world if we only compromise and fit well with each other. Three and a half stars.
This is a Children's Book. I tried to read this book several times, and this book just did not pull me in or kept me wanting to read. I ended up DNFing this book. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an e-ARC.
Cute short story, Ideal for small children. I liked that Horse and Zebra were presented with a problem that didn't get fixed right away.
Also nice questions at the end and a recipe!
I enjoyed this story as it taught how there are different personalities, different likes, and how to get along. The questions at the end definitely gave thought to the story. Horse and Zebra decided to share a popular treat with others. The treat became boring, and Zebra wanted to spice it up but went too far. They learned to compromise. Great book for elementary children.
I received a copy through Netgalley, and this is my unsolicited review.
Thank you to NetGalley and Jolly Fish Press for the eARC! These opinions are voluntary and in my own words.
Cute story! I liked that the horse and zebra had slight differences both in appearance and personality, which made the story fun and teaches a good lesson. Different is good! There are good lessons here about compromise , listening, and accepting differences.
I loved the discussion questions and the recipe at the back, as well. Great to get young minds thinking and baking!
Horse sells oatcakes to the animal community, but after a while, his customers tire of the same old same old. Zebra tries to help by monkeying with the recipe, but her offerings are not a hit. Can they come up with the perfect recipe to recapture the buying public?
I liked the "keep trying" message of this sweet and gentle book.
There are questions and a recipe at the end.
This adorable story Of Horse and Zebra working together to problem solve how to make their cakes better is great for showing children teamwork, perseverance and creativity.
Horse and Zebra bake a cake is a really cute story about compromises. It makes for a great bedside story too.
Enjoyable storyline and nice pictures. I would recommend to parents and children.
Thank you NetGalley.
Horse and Zebra are an excellent addition to the humorous emergent reader genre. In this selection, Horse bakes oat cakes every day and they are gone before you know it. Zebra has the idea of taking the cakes to the market. When sales slump because the cakes are plain, Zebra has another idea for "spicing up" the cakes but Zebra is not a baker like Horse. A nice addition to this selection are the discussion questions at the end reflecting on the differences between Zebra and Horse and how those differences can be seen as strengths. As there are other titles in the series, there is no need to read in order.
This was such a cute read! My daughter is 4 and going through the section at the end started a great conversation about how people can be different and work together to create something beautiful. She's been asking me ever since to make some oatcakes -- of course we'll add the sprinkles!
I adored this children's book so.
much. In this little adventure by Whitney Sanderson Horse and Zebra are the best of friends who are starting a new business together. With their Cake Wagon they plan to make oatcake deliveries to the other animals.
Horse and Zebra are very different, and so are their oatcakes.Horse is trying to be traditional while Zebra is creative. Soon they realize they aren't selling thier cakes, Now they have to learn how to work together to make the business
work,
This story, along with the wonderful. illustrations by Angelika Scudamore, is a great adventure teaching children about the importance of compromise.
The books includes ideas to think about like learning to describe your own personality & discovering your talents. The book even includes a recipe for Horse & Zebra's Patches.
This was a great interactive adventure that parents can share with their children & teachers with their class. I highly recommend this story. You will adore it as much as I do. 5 stars and more.
A cute story about two best friends starting a business together and learning to listen to each other's suggestions and compromise to find the best solutions. Lots of great lessons for children to learn!
The illustrations are quite cute too, with all the different animals (though I wish they were in color - I got a free ARC so fingers crossed they'll be color in the print version!) There are some plot holes (what happened to the delicious sounding banana-chocolate chip-sprinkle cookies Zebra made first? Plus I thought Zebra's tendency to sleep in was going to be more important as the book went along...) but I'm sure the target audience of early readers won't notice those.
A cute story about compromise. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC of this title.
3.5/4 stars, rounded to 4
This is a cute story. I like that Horse and Zebra work together to solve the problem. Also I appreciate that the first solution doesn't necessarily work out and they have to try something else. The end of the book has some questions to ask after you read that are good to engage with your child and get them thinking.
This book is appropriate for preschool and early elementary aged children.
I received a preview of this book from NetGalley for my honest opinion.
Horse and Zebra Bake a Cake by Whitney Sanderson.
I enjoyed this book but did notice the illustrations are only in black and white. As another reviewer mentioned this maybe because it was an Advanced Readers copy (ARC). I really think the pages should have some color! :)
A couple other favorites about the book is the Horse and Zebra's Oatcake recipe that children can make and also the "Book Club" Style questions at the end of the book. Soo fun! I added an extra star to my rating for these features.
The book talks about disagreeing, cooperation, problem-solving and more between Horse and Zebra and their cake business. I think this would be a really great book for teachers and classrooms.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!
Such a cute way to talk to children about a common issue that can be seen amongst. The ability to compromise usually leads to both parties being happy instead of remaining at a stale mate. I've seen this so often between my nieces and nephews and the authors took a fun take on this.
The questions to provoke thought and the fun recipe at the end are the icing on the cake!
Horse and Zebra Bake a Cake is a children’s book written by Whitney Sanderson.
Summary: Horse is organized. Zebra is fun-loving. Can they learn to work together and solve problems when their business begins to falter?
My Thoughts: This book is cute. The pictures are adorable, and the themes of hard work, cooperation (even when the characters are complete opposites), and problem-solving skills told in an easy-to-read format with a great subject (HELLO cake) make this a fun read for kids.
The only thing I would have liked better, would have been if the illustrations throughout the book had been in color. I suppose this could be because I got a review copy? If not, I feel like this would have been the one thing that would have made the book better.
I would recommend this book-especially if your household could do with a little lesson in cooperation. If you know what I mean.
I would like to thank North Star Editions for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you.
