This is a well written account of France’s Marshal Petain, leader of the Occupied republic known as Vichy. By focusing on Petain’s postwar trial for treason, Jackson explores many tangential but relevant factors influencing jurors in 1946. The author has a solid grasp of French internecine warfare before and after WW2. Recommended.
